Savula claims that MPs stormed out of the room after Odinga urged his followers to oppose the measure during a meeting of the Parliamentary Group. At the meeting, which was attended by over 130 MPs, a resounding majority vowed to oppose the bill.

Allies of Azimio plan to challenge the law in Parliament, but they also expect the courts to strike it down. Ledama Olekina of Narok expressed confidence that the Finance Bill 2023 would run afoul of the law if it were to be approved by Parliament. Likewise, Busia Senator Okiya Omtatah vowed to challenge the legislation in court.

Despite opposition, President William Ruto is unwavering in his conviction that the bill will boost the economy and create millions of jobs.
