Details Out On Who Told Raila Odinga To Resume Nationwide Weekly Protests

Azimio boss Raila Odinga on Thursday lifted lid on the need to resume bi-weekly anti-President Ruto protests in the country.

Odinga said that he is taking this move because there is evident lack of seriousness in the Kenya Kwanza team in the proposed bi-partisan talks.

The former Premier said that the second phase of his protests will kick off after the holy month of Ramadhan and will go hand in hand with bi-partisan talks.

The holy month of Ramadhan is set to end on 20th day of April, so Odinga will most likely rally his supporters to the streets in the course of next week.

Odinga spoke on Thursday when he met multi-sectoral leaders in the Ufungamano hall in Nairobi.

“We note the delay in naming the 7-member team and that upto now they have not named their chair leaving us at a loss as to whom to engage,” Odinga said.

According to reports, Odinga was forced to call for the resumption of his weekly protests after he was asked to do so by speakers in Ufungamano hall.

It is said that speaker after speaker in the historic Ufungamano hall asked Odinga to resume bi-weekly demonstrations, citing lack of seriousness in a manner that government treated the bi-partisan talks.

Speaking earlier on Thursday, Azimio bi-partisan team led by committee co-chairman Otiende Amollo said that they were yet to start the talks because they did not have anybody to engage in the talks.

“We reiterate our readiness and commitment to the process but decry the delay exhibited by our Kenya Kwanza counterparts,” the Rarieda MP said.

“We note the delay in naming the seven- member team and that up to now they have not named their chairperson leaving us at a loss as to whom to engage.”
