Some of the greatest tennis players (women) of all time

The WTA or the Women’s Tennis Association is the body governing women’s professional tennis in the World, which also ranks the players depending on their performances in the court.

The Grand Slam in tennis is winning all the four major championships in the same calendar year. If a player wins the Grand Slam and also claims gold at the Olympics, that person has achieved a Golden Grand Slam.Tennis players who have won these titles can be thought of as some of the finest in the history of the sport.

Some of these celebrated tennis players have achieved much of which many would only dream of and are are widely considered as the finest tennis players of all time.

*Venus Williams- she is an American professional tennis player and a former World no.1 in both singles and doubles.

She turned professional at the age of 14 in the year 1994 and today is widely regarded as one of the finest tennis players ever. She has 7 Grand Slam singles titles to her name and has reached 16 Grand Slam finals.

*Margaret Court- she is a retired Australian professional tennis player, regarded as an icon in tennis circles.

She has won 24 Grand Slam singles, 19 Grand slam doubles titles and 21 Grand Slam mixed ties and has a total of 192 career titles. She is also a 1977 Tennis Hall of Fame inductee.

*Martina Navratilova- she is a retired Czech-American professional tennis player and among the greatest tennis players of all time.

She won 18 Grand Slam Singles titles, 31 major Women’s doubles, 10 major mixed doubles titles making it a combined 59 major titles and a total of 167 career titles.

She is the only player in tennis history to hold the WTA World no.1 spot for over 200 weeks in both singles and doubles and is also a year 2000 Tennis Hall of Fame inductee.

*Steffi Graff- she is a former German professional tennis player who held the World no.1 spot for a record 377 weeks and won 22 Grand Slam singles titles.

In 1988 she became the only tennis player to achieve the Golden Slam by winning all four Grand Slam singles titles and the Olympic gold medal in the same year. She has won 104 titles in her career and is a 2004 Tennis Hall of Fame inductee.

*Maria Sharapova- she is a Russian former World no.1 tennis player. Sharapova has a Career Grand Slam, is an Olympic silver medalist and has five Grand Slam titles. She was named one of the ‘100 Greatest Tennis Players Of All Time’ by Tennis channel.

*Serena Williams- she is an American inactive professional tennis player who has won a record 23 Grand Slam singles titles and has been ranked World no.1 by the WTA on eight different occasions between the years 2002 and 2017.

She is arguably the finest tennis player in the history of the sport, and is the only tennis player to accomplish the Career Golden Grand Slam in both singles and doubles.
