Nairobi Senator, Edwin Sifuna, has claimed that he and former Kakamega Governor, Wycliffe Oparanya, have been summoned by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) over their alleged involvement in the recent Azimio la Umoja protests.
Speaking on Spice FM on Wednesday morning, Sifuna claimed that he and Oparanya had been summoned by the DCI over their alleged involvement in the protests.
“We have been summoned by the DCI over our involvement in the Azimio la Umoja protests. We will honor the summons and cooperate with the police in their investigations,” he said.
Sifuna, who is also the Secretary-General of ODM, said that he was not sure of the reason behind the summon and claimed that perhaps it was because of the sufuria he was carrying during Azimio protests in Kibra on Monday.
Oparanya, who is also a senior member of ODM and Azimio, has not yet commented on the alleged summons.
The DCI has not released an official statement on the matter, and it is not clear when Sifuna and Oparanya will appear before the police.
The summons come amid growing tensions between the government and the opposition, with the latter accusing the former of using excessive force to suppress dissent. The government, on the other hand, has accused the opposition of inciting violence and destabilizing the country.
