Raila Odinga in Mombasa: “Tremendous Respect” – Tuko.co.ke”/>
Two days before Azimio la Umoja leader Raila Odinga embarks on his Monday protests, Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has challenged him.
Speaking on Friday in Kisii during the homecoming ceremony of CS Ezekiel Machogu, the DP wondered why Raila failed to march to State House to book a date with President William Ruto.
He claimed that Ruto was waiting for him, only for him to fail and instead went to Nairobi streets to demonstrate. He however, sarcastically challenged Raila Odinga, saying he should consider visiting him at his office on Monday if he is afraid of visiting State House.
“Raila had initially planned to lead a march towards State House where Ruto was allegedly present. However, Raila altered his course and led the procession through the streets of Nairobi instead. If Raila was apprehensive about meeting with the President, he should visit my office as an alternative” stated Gachagua
At the same time, Gachagua has rubbished claims by Azimio leader Raila Odinga that he held a meeting to plan on how to disrupt Monday’s demonstrations. Speaking in Kisii on Friday, Gachagua dismissed Raila’s allegations as political deceit and urged police officers to ignore them.
“Our security officers should ignore what Raila is saying. What he means he does not say and what he says he does not mean,” said Gachagua.
Raila had claimed on Thursday that Gachagua, alongside National Assembly Majority leader Kimani Ichung’wah and Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro, were planning to unleash mayhem during Azimio’s protests next week. The Azimio leader alleged that Gachagua hosted a meeting at his Karen home to plan on how to disrupt the scheduled demonstrations.
Gachagua’s dismissal of the claims comes amid rising political tensions ahead of the planned Azimio demonstrations. It remains to be seen how the situation will develop in the coming days.
