Six Television Stations Whose License Might be Revoked for Covering Azimio’s Antigovernment Protest

Six media platforms in the country are at the risk of losing their practicing license after violating the programming code as stipulated by the media laws.

As revealed by the director of the communication authority of Kenya Ezra Chiloba, covering the live protests by the Azimio la Umoja one Kenya alliance on Monday 20th March violated the media law.

The television stations Citizen television of the royal media services, Nation television, Kenya broadcasting corporation, Tv47 and the Ebru tv.

“The Authority has established that at least Six (6) TV stations, namely, Citizen TV, NTV, K24, KBC, TV47 and Ebru TV, provided coverage in a manner that violated the Programming Code,” Chiloba said.

Mr Chiloba said that by covering the live scenes of the Azimio la Umoja one Kenya alliance could lead to incitement or panic to the citizens and may threaten peace and cohesion in the country.

“The coverage depicted scenes that could cause panic or incitement to the public, threatening peace and cohesion in the country,” Chiloba further said.
