The Jobs Done By Parents Of, William Mayenga, Maseno Varsity Student killed By Police

That her son will not be one of the students graduating at Maseno University in 2024 but instead will be missing, yet another record of alleged police killing, breaks Ms Everlyne Miruka’s heart.

The 44-year-old spoke emotionally about the death of her son, William Mayenga, a third-year Literature student at the university based 26 kilometres from Kisumu City, who lost his life from a gunshot injury following Monday’s Azimio protests.

The university student was her first-born son and was the only one shot dead during the chaotic protests.

Ms Miruka last talked to and met her son on Monday last week when she took him pocket money and promised him to send sh5000 in a few days.

Little did she get wind that it would be their last engagement.

Ms Miruka is an English and science teacher at Emaruba Primary School in Vihiga County and her hubby Joash Bangi Mayenga is a mathematics teacher at Birongo Secondary School in Nyamira County.

At Coptic Hospital, Mr Mayenga was shocked and worried. The 54-year-old toured the medical facility by his brother-in-law Joel all the way from Keroka in Kisii County, 137 kilometres away.

William was to celebrate his 22 birthday in May before he succumbed to a single shot inflicted on his neck a few distance from the university’s main gate.

He was taken to Coptic Hospital where he was declared brought dead on arrival.

Police said demonstrators, who included students, had stormed the Maseno police station and vandalised almost 10 houses, making officers to spray live bullets to repulse the rowdy youths.
