Arsenal: Arteta’s Reason for Not Signing New Striker Justified After Recent News

Arsenal Academy talent Florian Balogun has been tearing it up and bringing the house down in the Ligue 1 this season. The 21 year old scored his 12th goal of the season against PSG that forced the French giants to share the spoils at full time with Stade Reims. The England international has since been strongly suggested to Mikel Arteta as the perfect attacking addition to the club.

“Florian Balogun must be given a chance to prove himself next season at Arsenal. If this season has taught Arteta anything, is that he cannot depend on a narrow squad to succeed and win the league. He is currently running on thin ice because if Nketiah gets injured, it’s game over for Arsenal. He has to induct a new striker who is prolific and Balogun has proven to be that this season,” commented Ian Wright.

Balogun has always been very positive about decisions made by Arteta on his career. During the summer, he said that Arteta promised him a spot in next season’s squad if he performed on top level throughout this season. So at this point, there is guarantee that he will be a big shot at the club next season unless he avoids injury.

My opinion

Balogun has goals in him which is right about time that Mikel Arteta notices it. Eddie Nketiah went through the same process and is now leading the front line in the absence of Gabriel Jesus. Scoring goals consistently in Ligue 1 does not prove anything yet about what he can do in the Premier League but at least it shows that he has some desirable attacking qualities.

Arsenal have every right not to sign a new striker this winter or even the summer. Balogun could settle in well at the club now unlike last season where he showed frailty whenever he was given a chance to start. He could settle in as the club’s third choice striker behind Nketiah and Jesus and work his way up into the starting eleven.
