A Nairobi family is overjoyed after their twins earned identical grades in the recently released 2021 Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) examination results.
Bett Lindsey Kiprotich and her identical twin Bett Lee Kiprotich both scored 414 points, just 14 points behind Gilgil Hills Academy’s top student Magata Bruce Makenzi.
The results startled but delighted the twins, who attended Nairobi’s Mountain View School, and their parents.
Bett Lindsey claims that although being in the same school and class, they had never tied in an exam before, thus this came as quite a surprise to her.
“I used to be right on top of him in class,” she explained. “When these results came in, I was truly shocked because we had never even tied in class, but I am pleased with the outcome.”
According to Lindsey, the one subject in which they used to tie was mathematics, which was visible even in their KCPE scores, when they both earned 85.
“Sometimes, he’d receive a 380 and I’d get a 410 for the first time,” she explained. “We’d only tie in Math if we both got 100 or 95 percent.”
In the national exam, the two received straight As in all areas except Math, where they tied with an 85.
Bett Lee received 414 points after scoring 89A in English, 85A in Kiswahili, 85A in Mathematics, 75A in Science, and 80A in Social Studies and Religious Studies.
Bett Lindsey received the following grades: English 86A, Kiswahili 82A, Mathematics 85A, Science 76A, Social Studies and Religious Studies 85A for a total of 414 points.
According to their father, Charles Kipkirui Bett, he is overjoyed with the children’s success, claiming he was shocked by the results.
“We didn’t see it coming,” he added, adding that he will keep the promises he made to the twins if they pass the exam.
Lindsey says she wants to join The Kenya High School, whereas her brother, who is in Kericho for initiation, wants to join Mang’u High School.
