Student arrested after shooting his classmate in the face with his father’s gun he brought to school

Bernard Amoabeng, a student at Kumasi Adventist SHS, has been taken into custody by the Ghana Police for shooting his classmate, Suzzy Pinamang, in the face during a classroom altercation with another student, Samuel Manu, at around 9:30am yesterday.

Reports indicate that during the dispute, Amoabeng produced a firearm to demonstrate its functionality. In the process, he allegedly discharged the weapon, accidentally injuring two students. Pinamang sustained a critical gunshot wound to her forehead and was initially taken to Kwadaso Hospital before being transferred to Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital for advanced care.

The other student who was injured received medical attention for minor wounds and has been released from the hospital. Meanwhile, authorities are looking into how Bernard Amoabeng came into possession of the firearm and are reviewing the school’s security protocols to help prevent such incidents from happening again.

The incident at Kumasi Adventist Senior High School has prompted significant concern among school authorities and law enforcement. The Ghana Police Service is actively investigating how Bernard Amoabeng obtained the firearm and managed to bring it onto the school premises.

As a response to the incident, the school’s management is working closely with security authorities to review and enhance current safety measures to avoid future incidents. The situation has also ignited wider conversations about the need for stricter security in schools and the importance of raising student awareness about the risks associated with firearms.

Educating young people on the dangers of firearms and promoting a culture of peace must be at the heart of every school’s mission moving forward.
