Rejecting election results fuels instability – Chief of Staff warns

The Chief of Staff, Julius Debrah, has called on political actors to commit to accepting the outcomes of elections as a means of safeguarding peace and preventing violence.

Delivering the keynote address at the 2025 Democracy Dialogue on Wednesday, September 17, 2025, Mr. Debrah stressed that Africa’s political stability depends on transparent and credible electoral processes.

“When political actors refuse to accept election results or incite violence, they turn healthy competition into a dangerous confrontation,” he cautioned.

He cited examples across the continent where unconstitutional third-term bids, disputed elections, and military interventions have undermined democratic gains and plunged nations into instability.

“These are constant reminders of how our democratic gains can be eroded,” he said, urging stakeholders to respect the rule of law and uphold democratic principles.
