The Acting Chief Executive Officer of the Financial Intelligence Centre, Ing Twum Boafo, has taken a swipe at Dr David Tenkorang-Twum, General Secretary of the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNMA), over comments he made against Health Minister Kwabena Mintah Akandoh as reported by Ghana Web.
Ing Boafo, speaking on Metro TV’s Good Morning Ghana on Friday, August 22, argued that the remarks were not only disrespectful to the minister but also insulting to farmers.
He maintained that reducing the Minister’s background as a farmer to a weakness showed a lack of appreciation for the role farmers play in national development.
“Insulting the Health Minister because he is a farmer is very unbecoming. Somewhere along our lives, we should be grateful to people who decide to feed,” he stated, stressing that the minister deserved respect regardless of his profession before entering politics.
According to him, Dr Tenkorang-Twum’s conduct suggested that he was using his office for partisan politics instead of focusing on championing the welfare of nurses and midwives.
Boafo stated that leadership within unions should rise above political partisanship if they hope to secure genuine progress for their members.
He further challenged the GRNMA General Secretary to apologise to both the Health Minister and Ghanaian farmers for the “condescending” comments.
Boafo also questioned why Dr Tenkorang-Twum had allegedly been selective in calling strikes, suggesting bias in his approach under different administrations.
