WATCH: ‘I would rather mop the ocean’ – Mzansi reacts to woman proposing to her boyfriend in restaurant

It’s 2024 and people are still divided about whether or not a woman can propose to a guy.

A video of a woman proposing to a man in a busy restaurant has gone viral on TikTok.

In the clip which has been viewed over 500,000 times, we see a waitress deliver a small white box on a tray to a guy sitting at a table with his friends.

Looking confused and shy, the guy gently pushes the tray away from him.

One of the women sitting at the table then gets up slowly, walks around the table to his side and immediately goes down on her knees and proceeds to take a ring out of the box.

She then goes on to propose to him and then places the ring on his finger as they both stand up.

For a moment, the couple both look very happy as they awkwardly hug each other.

After the short embrace, both of them simply return to their seats.

One would expect them to look more excited as the guy did in fact say yes to the ring.

The people around them were more excited than the newly-engaged couple.

As expected, TikTokers leapt into the comment section to share their views on the awkward proposal.

Many women commented that they could never do it.

“My pride will never allow me. I would rather mop the ocean,” said one woman.

Another woman commented: “Not even Idris Elba would get me to do this.”

“I would rather count rice one by one,” commented another.

“I got second-hand embarrassment before I could finish watching the video,” said another.

The guys weighed in on the situation as well.

One guy responded: “I would passionately say ‘no’ and end that relationship.”

Another guy admitted that he was too shy to pop the question. He said: “The way I’m so shy, she might have to do this if she wants us to get married.”

This guy said: “You are so brave, my sister. man pls don’t stay with someone’s child for more than 5 years without doing the right thing.”
