Stop the political interference — EC must complete its work in Ablekuma North

0

Logo of the Electoral Commission Logo of the Electoral Commission

In recent days, Ghanaians have witnessed a troubling and unjustified attack on the independence of the Electoral Commission (EC), led by senior government officials, including the Minister of Defence, Dr Edward Omane Boamah, and the Presidential Advisor for Governmental Affairs, Dr Valerie Esther Sawyer. These officials have publicly called for a rerun of the parliamentary election in the Ablekuma North Constituency.

Let me state emphatically that any talk of a rerun in Ablekuma North, whether for the entire constituency or select polling stations, is completely without justification or constitutional basis.

The EC is the only institution empowered by our Constitution to organise and supervise elections in Ghana. It is an independent body. The recent comments from these high-ranking officials not only undermine that independence but also risk setting a dangerous precedent in which political pressure overrides the law and due process.

The EC has consistently stated that it is ready and willing to execute its constitutional mandate by completing the collation and declaration of the 7 December 2024 parliamentary election results for Ablekuma North. The only impediment has been the lack of adequate security support from the Ghana Police Service.

It is, therefore, deeply troubling for anyone, especially government officials, to be calling for a rerun when the lawful process has not been concluded simply due to an apparent failure, or refusal, to guarantee the Commission the security it needs to operate.

Ironically, any rerun (should one occur), would require even greater security arrangements. So why are these calls being made at all? The solution is clear: provide the EC with the protection it needs to do its job and respect the will of the people.

The constituents of Ablekuma North have exercised their constitutional right to vote. The ballots have been cast, and the democratic process must be allowed to conclude. It is not for politicians, regardless of their office, to decide whether an election should be rerun. That authority lies solely with the EC, and only under specific, well-grounded legal circumstances.

Rather than undermine the process with partisan pronouncements, officials like Dr. Omane Boamah and Dr Valerie Sawyer should be using their influence to support the EC and urge the Inspector General of Police and the Ghana Police Service to ensure the Commission has the protection it needs to carry out its constitutional duties.

This moment calls for leadership, not political gamesmanship. The EC must be allowed to assert its independence, complete the collation process, and declare the results without further delay. Anything less is a betrayal of our democracy.

It is time to end the charade and put Ghana first.

IMF to consider revising Ghana’s programme targets amid cedi gains

Julie Kozack is the IMF Director of Communications Julie Kozack is the IMF Director of Communications

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has indicated that Ghana’s recent currency gains could trigger a revision of key programme targets under the country’s US$3 billion Extended Credit Facility (ECF) arrangement.

The cedi’s sharp appreciation of over 40% against the US dollar since the start of 2025 has significantly improved Ghana’s macroeconomic outlook, including a substantial reduction in the national debt-to-GDP ratio.

According to the Bank of Ghana, on Friday, June 13, 2025, the cedi is currently trading at GH¢10.25 to the dollar.

Speaking during a press briefing in Washington DC, the IMF Director of Communications, Julie Kozack, said the Fund is closely monitoring macroeconomic developments, including foreign exchange movements, and may adjust targets accordingly.

“As we look at the programme, we look at all of these developments, including, of course, developments in the exchange rate,” she stated.

She explained that future reviews of the programme will offer an opportunity to ensure that targets remain “appropriate and achievable” in light of Ghana’s evolving financial conditions.

Ghana has also exceeded another key IMF benchmark, international reserves.

As of April 2025, the Bank of Ghana reported reserves of GH¢10.6 billion equivalent to 4.7 months of import cover, well above the programme’s target.

The positive macroeconomic indicators are likely to strengthen Ghana’s position ahead of the IMF Executive Board’s scheduled review in early July 2025.

If approved, the review would unlock a US$360 million disbursement bringing total programme support to US$2.355 billion.

The real game is between owners and refs – Coach of Young Apostles sparks match fixing debate

0

William Afoakwa is the head coach of Young Apostles William Afoakwa is the head coach of Young Apostles

Young Apostles head coach, William Afoakwa, has ignited a firestorm in Ghanaian football after making bold allegations that suggest matches in the Ghana Premier League (GPL) are not being decided by coaching strategies or player performances, but by a hidden tug-of-war between club owners and referees.

Speaking in an interview with Kumasi-based Sikka FM, Afoakwa didn’t mince words as he painted a worrying picture of the state of Ghana’s top-flight competition.

According to Afoakwa, most coaches are reduced to bystanders during games.

“We, the coaches in the Ghana Premier League, are just following the team. For it is the team owners and referees that are playing the matches,” he said.

The candid statement, which has quickly gone viral, has intensified ongoing concerns about the credibility of officiating and potential match manipulation within the league.

Despite steering the club to safety after taking over from Asare Bediako and Bashiru Rahim earlier in the season, Afoakwa’s comments have been met with a mixture of outrage, support, and concern.

While some in the football community have dismissed the claims as exaggerated frustration from a struggling coach, others say Afoakwa has merely spoken out loud what many insiders have long whispered in private.

The Ghana Premier League has faced numerous allegations of favouritism, poor refereeing, and behind-the-scenes influences in recent years, issues that have repeatedly cast doubts on the integrity of results.

Young Apostles narrowly avoided relegation in their maiden GPL campaign.

The Wenchi-based club finished 14th on the league table with 40 points.

No revenue was generated from Emissions Levy – Deputy Finance Minister

0

Deputy Minister of Finance, Thomas Ampem Nyarko, has disclosed that the previous New Patriotic Party (NPP) administration did not implement the Emissions Levy, despite securing parliamentary approval for it.

Addressing Parliament on Thursday, Mr. Nyarko explained that although the legislative groundwork for the levy was completed, practical challenges hindered its rollout, resulting in no revenue being collected.

“The act imposes an emissions levy on carbon dioxide equivalent emissions from specified sectors, internal combustion vehicles, and provides for related matters. Although the legal framework was put in place, the actual operationalization of the levy faced implementation delays. As a result, no revenue was generated from the levy under the previous administrations,” he stated.

His comments come in the wake of Parliament’s decision on March 26 to repeal both the Emissions Levy and the Betting Tax. The move was widely welcomed by businesses, individuals, and industry stakeholders who had raised concerns about the financial strain these taxes placed on operations and livelihoods.

The Emission Levy was introduced as part of efforts to reduce carbon emissions and promote environmental sustainability, met strong resistance—particularly from vehicle owners and business operators—who argued that the policy increased their cost of living and doing business.

BoG Cautions Public Against ‘Yellow Card’ Digital Services

Dr. Johnson Asiama, BoG Governor

The Bank of Ghana (BoG), has cautioned the public and all relevant stakeholders to desist from engaging the services of Yellow Card Financial Inc. and HanyPay Ghana, entities claiming to provide a platform for digital payments and enable users to make payments, send and receive electronic money.

A statement issued and signed by the secretary to the  Bank of Ghana, Sandra Thompson, said Yellow card Financial Inc. which is actively promoting itself as a provider of digital payment services cryptocurrency trading, and cross-border remittance solutions, as well as convert stable coins into local currency is not licensed and approved by the Bank of Ghana.

It said, “This notice serves to inform the public, financial institutions, and all relevant stakeholders to desist from engaging with Yellow Card Financial Inc. and HanyPay Ghana, on the basis that their activities are not approved by Bank of Ghana.

“It has come to the attention of the Bank of Ghana, that Yellow Card is engaged in an ongoing collaboration with HanyPay, an entity that claims to be licensed by the Africa Diaspora Central Bank (ADCB). This partnership reportedly seeks to develop and integrate a new stable coin, AKL Lumi, into the global financial ecosystem,” it added.

According to the BoG, the development raises significant regulatory concerns, as HanyPay is neither licensed nor authorized to operate within the jurisdiction of Ghana adding that the Bank of Ghana does not recognize ADCB as a central bank and that its activities require appropriate licensing from the Bank of Ghana

OSP conducts search on SML

0

The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has conducted a search at the offices of  Strategic Mobilisation Ghana Limited (SML) to retrieve relevant information to help in ongoing investigations.

The search, which was based on a lawful search warrant granted by the court, was to retrieve relevant information to assist the office in its investigation regarding the work of the assurance company on the downstream petroleum sector in a contract with the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA).

The Director of Strategy, Research and Communication, Samuel Appiah Darko, told the Daily Graphic that the investigators of the OSP did not destroy any property at SML offices during last Monday’s search exercise, except to remove and take possession of items relevant to its investigation.

He said as part of its standard operating procedure, the OSP investigators prepared a list of the items seized. “This is called the Form 3 and it’s titled ‘Inventory of items seized or detained during search by an authorised officer”.

Mr Darko said while a Principal Staff Officer signed the form on behalf of the OSP, the Director of IT at SML, Samuel Jacob Prempeh, signed on behalf of SML and witnessed by his colleague, Rev. Michael Nyamitei.

“Our investigators went to the SML offices for a lawful search to take possession of certain information and items which we need to help us in our investigation,” he said.

“WE did not destroy any property and we filled the seizure notice duly signed by our officers and representatives of SML,” the Director of Strategy, Research and Communication said.

Mr Darko further explained that staff of the SML offices were told that they were not under arrest and should therefore cooperate with the OSP investigators.

LatexFoamPromo

The Daily Graphic learnt that earlier that the OSP had demanded for some documents from SML to help with investigations into its operations following a petition by investigative journalist, Manasseh Azure Awuni.

However, lawyers of SML wrote to exercise the right to decline.

When asked, Mr Darko confirmed the information and said that compelled the OSP to apply for a warrant of the court to obtain the needed information from SML.

Context

Asked about the foundation of the investigation, he said, after receiving a petition from the investigative journalist, the then President also asked accounting firm, KPMG, to conduct an audit, an exercise that forced the OSP to pause its investigation of the issue.

Having passed that stage, Mr Darko explained, the OSP continued with the investigations, stressing that the corruption and corruption-related investigative body was not motivated by any external persons, groups or influences to conduct investigations or search the offices of the company for the needed information.

Background

The President had commissioned KPMG on December 29, 2023 to undertake an inquiry to gain a clear understanding of the matters in controversy, and to be properly advised in taking the necessary decisions.

On May 22, 2024, then President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo released the full KPMG report of the transaction between the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) and SML for public consumption.

A statement announcing the release said the President, “in the interest of full transparency in governance, openness, and honesty with the public, has decided to waive the privilege under section 5 of the RTI Act and has directed the publication of the KPMG report in full.”

On April 24, 2024, President Akufo-Addo received a request from the Media Foundation for West Africa (MFWA), under section 18 of the Right to Information Act, 2019 (Act 989) (RTI Act), for a copy of the KPMG report on the contracts and transactions between GRA and SML.

The statement from the presidency said bearing in mind the provisions of the RTI Act, particularly section 5(1)(a) and (b)(i) of the Act, the President denied the request by MFWA since the KPMG report constituted matters exempt under section 5 of the RTI Act.

“However, the President, in the interest of full transparency in governance, openness, and honesty with the public, has decided to waive the privilege under section 5 of the RTI Act and has directed the publication of the KPMG report in full,” it added.

Government to borrow GH¢7.58 billion in June 13 auction

Interest rates for the 91-day bills stand at 14.79% Interest rates for the 91-day bills stand at 14.79%

The government is targeting GH¢7.58 billion from its treasury bill auction today, June 13, 2025.

Last week, the government’s short-term debt auction saw a deepening undersubscription in the latest issuance, falling short by GH¢2.29 billion of its GH¢6.66 billion target.

A total of GH¢4.37 billion was raised at the close of the auction, reflecting weakened investor participation and marking a significant dip from last week’s GH¢353 million shortfall.

Investor interest remained firmly anchored on the 91-day bill, which continued to dominate demand.

The government accepted all bids tendered for the 91-day instrument, raising GH¢2.65 billion.

Demand for the medium and long-dated tenors remained subdued.

A total of GH¢1.67 billion was accepted for the 182-day bill, while the 364-day bill attracted only GH¢48 million, both amounts fully allotted by the government.

Yields across the three instruments recorded modest declines, consistent with the Bank of Ghana’s disinflation-focused monetary policy stance.

The 91-day bill held steady at 14.79%, the 182-day bill dipped by 3 basis points to 15.45%, and the 364-day bill fell 12 basis points to 15.79%.

The marginal yield declines point to an improving inflation outlook and a possible easing of short-term funding pressures for the government.

Social media fueling exam malpractices – WAEC

0

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has expressed growing concern over the misuse of social media platforms to facilitate examination malpractices, warning that the situation is becoming increasingly difficult to control.

Speaking on Channel One TV’s Breakfast Daily on Friday, June 13, WAEC’s Head of Public Affairs, John Kapi, cautioned that digital platforms like WhatsApp and Telegram are being weaponized to undermine the integrity of public exams.

“Social media has created a bigger problem than we anticipated. Of course, there are good sides to it, but people are exploiting it on the negative side. With the advent of mobile phones, WhatsApp, Telegram, and others, it’s become difficult to curb examination malpractice,” he stated.

The growing trend of digital exam leaks and coordinated cheating has posed a major challenge for WAEC in recent years. Mr. Kapi indicated that the Council is currently reviewing and strengthening its security and monitoring systems to counter such threats during the 2025 BECE.

His remarks come at a time of heightened public concern over the credibility of national assessments, especially in the face of evolving technology and the increasing sophistication of cheating methods.

In a related update, Mr. Kapi confirmed that the government has disbursed more than half of the required funds for the successful conduct of the 2025 BECE.

“As we speak, the government has paid a little above 50% of the amount we need for the BECE. Assurances have been made, and if all of them are fulfilled, there will be no hitches, and the results will be released appropriately for candidates to move on to their next stage,” he assured.

He also explained that this year’s exam timetable was adjusted not only to accommodate the upcoming Muslim festival but also to begin aligning Ghana’s academic calendar with the May-June schedule followed by other WAEC member countries.

WAEC’s renewed vigilance comes amid its ongoing efforts to uphold the credibility of the BECE and safeguard the future of thousands of students across the country.

Why Did Israel Hit Iran’s Nuke Sites And Which Are The Areas It Targeted?

0

According to Israeli officials, this marks the beginning of a sustained campaign intended to roll back what they describe as a mounting threat from Tehran.

Israel carried out a large-scale military operation, christened Operation Lion, against Iran early on Friday, targeting critical nuclear and military infrastructure. The strikes were aimed at dismantling Iran’s ability to develop nuclear weapons, disrupt its missile capabilities, and neutralise top figures in its defence leadership.

According to Israeli officials, this marks the beginning of a sustained campaign intended to roll back what they describe as a mounting threat from Tehran. Multiple explosions were reported across Iranian cities, with damage confirmed at several strategic sites, including nuclear facilities and military headquarters.

Why Iran Was Hit: Inside Israel’s ‘Pre-emptive Strike’

Israel launched sweeping airstrikes on Iran early Friday, in what it described as a pre-emptive military operation targeting nuclear facilities, ballistic missile sites, and top military commanders. The assault, part of Operation Rising Lion, marked the start of a prolonged campaign aimed at neutralising what Israel views as an “existential threat” from Tehran.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu called it a “decisive moment” in the country’s history, declaring that the strikes would continue “for as many days as it takes” to remove the danger.

Also Read: Explained: Why The Israel-Iran Conflict Just Escalated And What Role The US Is Playing

The Israeli Defence Forces (IDF) stated that the decision to launch the attack stemmed from fresh intelligence indicating that Iran’s nuclear weapons programme had reached the “point of no return.”

In an official statement, the IDF labelled the assault a “pre-emptive strike,” prompted by fears that Iran — an openly hostile regime with missiles capable of striking anywhere in Israel — was on the brink of weaponisation. IDF Chief of Staff Eyal Zamir said the situation had crossed critical thresholds, and that Israel could no longer afford to wait.

Iran’s uranium enrichment has been accelerating, according to the UN’s nuclear watchdog, adding further urgency to Israeli concerns. Netanyahu, in a prerecorded address released during the strikes, claimed Iran now possesses enough enriched uranium to build nine nuclear weapons. He also warned that Tehran was taking unprecedented steps toward assembling a nuclear bomb.

However, a US official cited by Reuters indicated there had been no shift in Washington’s intelligence assessment, which still holds that Iran has not restarted its nuclear weapons programme since it was shut down in 2003. Despite this, Israel’s leadership felt compelled to act decisively to prevent what it described as a fast-approaching threat to its national survival.

Where Israel Struck

Israeli strikes reportedly hit dozens of locations across Iran, including key nuclear and military sites. Among the most significant targets was the Natanz uranium enrichment facility in central Iran, where explosions were reported by Iranian media and witnesses. Israel also struck the headquarters of Iran’s elite Revolutionary Guards in Tehran, killing its top commander, Hossein Salami. At least two nuclear scientists, Fereydoun Abbasi and Mohammad Mehdi Tehranchi, were also reportedly killed in strikes on Tehran.

The offensive extended beyond air raids. According to Axios, citing Israeli officials, Mossad also led covert sabotage missions inside Iran, targeting missile sites and air defence systems.

Over GH¢548m lost to ‘ghost names’ in NSA scandal — Attorney General

0

The Attorney General and Minister for Justice, Dr. Dominic Ayine, has disclosed that a criminal network within the National Service Authority (NSA) led to the loss of over GH¢548 million through the insertion of ghost names into the national payroll.

Speaking at a press briefing on Friday, June 13, 2025, on the government’s anti-corruption efforts, Dr. Ayine provided an update on the ongoing investigations under the Operation Recover All Loot (ORAL) initiative.

The revelations come in the wake of a directive from President John Dramani Mahama instructing the National Investigations Bureau (NIB) to probe irregularities at the NSA, following the discovery of over 8,000 ghost names on its payroll.

According to Dr. Ayine, the investigation has uncovered that certain individuals in positions of authority during the Akufo-Addo administration orchestrated the scheme, which he described as a “criminal enterprise” involving directors, staff, and service providers.

“In the 2022/2023 service year, 350,926,977.12 was lost to the state. for the 2023/2024 service year, 32,881, 157.07 was lost to the republic. In total, as stated, we lost about 548,333,542.65 to the criminal enterprise perpetrated by these executives, directors, and staff, as well as 5the service providers in the market.

“The criminal enterprise that resulted in the loss of this colossal loss of sum of money involved the creation of ghost names in the NSA payroll system by some directors and staff, which was subsequently exploited to misappropriate state funds for their gain,” he stated.

International Monetary Fund (IMF) International Monetary Fund (IMF)

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) Executive Board is scheduled to consider Ghana’s Fourth Review under the US$3 billion Extended Credit Facility (ECF) programme in early July 2025.

A potential disbursement of US$360 million is expected, pending approval.

The announcement was made by IMF Director of Communications, Julie Kozack, on Thursday, June 12, 2025.

If approved, the forthcoming disbursement will bring Ghana’s total receipts under the ECF arrangement to approximately US$2.355 billion since the programme’s inception in May 2023.

The IMF commended the Ghanaian government for its recent efforts to restore macroeconomic stability.

These measures include tightening monetary policy, adjusting electricity tariffs, and implementing reforms in public financial management.

“The new authorities have taken bold measures to address policy and reform slippages and ensure the achievement of programme objectives,” Kozack noted.

The anticipated approval and disbursement are expected to boost investor confidence and support Ghana’s ongoing efforts to stabilize the economy and achieve long-term debt sustainability under the IMF-supported programme.

The company, Batuowiisi Company Limited, was registered in 2017 in the names of Chinnia’s brother, cousin, and driver — just after his appointment as Deputy Upper West Regional Minister. Not long after, the company secured a GHS 2.6 million “Planting for Food and Jobs” contract. By 2019, it had bagged a GHS 12.6 million road project. However, an on-site investigation by JoyNews found incomplete work and questionable project outcomes.

Despite clear conflict-of-interest red flags, Chinnia denies any wrongdoing, claiming he had no stake in the company. But anti-corruption groups like the Ghana Integrity Initiative (GII) have demanded his suspension and a CHRAJ investigation, citing breaches of the Public Procurement Act.

This case has become a classic example of how power and public funds are often used to benefit political allies — a recurring theme in Ghana’s governance system.

A significant milestone in digital inclusion was marked at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) with the official launch of DigiVibe—a transformative initiative designed to bridge Ghana’s digital gender gap and equip young women for the future of work.

The launch event attracted a diverse audience of female students, tech professionals, and entrepreneurs, all united by a shared mission: to empower women through digital innovation and skills training.

Founder and CEO of Women’s Haven Africa, Adwoa Fosua, described DigiVibe as more than just a training programme stating that it is a platform for leadership, entrepreneurship, and technological empowerment.

“Our goal is not just participation but leadership. DigiVibe is about giving women the tools to lead in technology and business,” she stated.

Ms. Fosua expressed concern over the continued marginalisation of women in the digital sphere, despite women comprising over half of Ghana’s population. She highlighted the barriers—such as limited access, lack of digital literacy, and societal stereotypes—that hinder women, particularly in underserved communities.

DigiVibe targets unemployed and underemployed young women, especially those in rural and marginalized areas, providing practical training in high-demand fields including coding, data science, artificial intelligence, and fintech

The initiative is funded by the German Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), and the German Special Initiative on Decent Work for a Just Transition.

DigiVibe aims to train at least 5,000 women in its first phase, with a focus on low-income and underrepresented applicants.

Senior Project Coordinator at WERise Network,Eunice Adjei, highlighted that DigiVibe connects trained women with organisations seeking digital innovation, strengthening the link between education and industry

“We’re creating a bridge between tech-ready women and businesses ready to innovate,” she said.

Director of the KNUST E-Learning Centre,Prof. Eric Appau Asante, reaffirmed the university’s commitment to DigiVibe, pledging infrastructure support and expert mentorship.

“We are proud to support a project that uplifts our female students and positions them as future tech leaders. We are also committed to creating an environment where virtual learning leads to real-world results,” he stated.

DigiVibe is backed by a robust coalition of partners including AFOS Foundation, WERise Network, Oxford Africa Women Leadership Institute (OAWLI), and several tertiary institutions such as KNUST, Accra Technical University (ATU), University of Cape Coast (UCC), and the National Service Authority.

With a comprehensive national rollout, strategic partnerships, and a commitment to mentorship and inclusivity, DigiVibe is set to become a game-changer in Ghana’s digital landscape—ensuring that women are not just included in the digital age but are leading it.

AG investigates nationwide “ghost names” scheme at National Service Scheme

0

Attorney General, Dominic Ayine.

The Attorney General, Dr. Dominic Ayine, has revealed an expansive criminal enterprise involving top-level officials at the National Service Scheme (NSS), who allegedly orchestrated a payroll fraud operation across the country.

Nationwide Criminal Enterprise Ayine’s office says it has uncovered evidence suggesting that senior administrators—including district directors, payroll officers, and the NSS CEO—collaborated over several years to inflate the NSS payroll with fake names.

Investigators identified 81,885 “ghost” names used to siphon state resources.

The scheme allegedly resulted in the diversion of approximately GH¢548 million from public coffers.

Funds intended for newly enrolled service personnel were rerouted into the pockets of officials and accomplices.

Ghost Names on Payroll

Authorities estimate that at its peak, the fraud generated over GH¢50 million monthly in false payments.

The ghost names were supported with fabricated index and ID numbers; the system was deliberately bypassed to create unauthorised entries.

Evidence also suggests the NSS CEO and other executives diverted state funds for personal use.

Bribery is suspected: In November 2024, funds were allegedly paid to a Member of Parliament to suppress media coverage of the scandal.

Dr. Ayine disclosed that before each service year, NSS directors submitted lump-sum payments to bolster the payroll. These sums were then redistributed via ghost accounts—cementing the scheme as recurring and institutionalised.

I slept with a stranger and my private part is getting ‘rotten’

0

File photo of a worried woman File photo of a worried woman

Dear GhanaWeb,

I’m a 25-year-old woman, a university graduate. I met a Lebanese man at a restaurant in Osu. I was with some friends. So, he paid our bill and drove us home.

A couple of days later, he asked that I join him for dinner in his house and I agreed. I thought we might end up being intimate because even before he invited me for the dinner, he had sent me GH₵3,000.00 the previous day.

While we were eating, he asked me if I was menstruating and I said no. He then asked me for the specific date that I will menstruate. I told him I experience my period around 4th to 7th of every month. I asked him why he was asking me such weird questions but he said it is because he hates condom but doesn’t want to get me pregnant so he wants to know when I am in my safe period.

I told him I was safe but he still didn’t touch me. On the 6th of day of the month he sent me GH₵5,000.00 and asked me to come to his place the next day, which was on the 7th of April for a surprise and I did.

He gave me a phone, Samsung 25 Ultra. I was super excited because I was using an iPhone 7 plus. After chatting for a while, he started touching me but I refused to do anything with him because I was menstruating.

He managed to convince me to allow him have his way with me. He said it was normal to be intimate during menstruation and he doesn’t want to get me pregnant. So, the best time we can have sex is when I am menstruating.

When we finished, he gave me a pad. He said it’s what they use in Lebanon and that it is safe and even better than what we use in Ghana. He took my used pad and placed it in the bin in his bedroom and assured me that the house help will later empty it out.

I didn’t experience anything when I got home. I woke up feeling well the next day, till I finished my period. That was when my vagina began to itch. At first, I was scratching it but I had to stop because it was becoming sore and I thought it’s due to the scratching.

By the next day, my private part was covered with boils. The place started releasing offensive smell. So, I went to the pharmacy to buy drugs. I woke up the following day and all the itching and boils were gone except for one sore which was smelly. I thought the drug was working fine but later that afternoon, I started bleeding.

It’s been over a week and I am still bleeding. I was at the hospital the whole of last week. I have bought drugs but the situation keeps worsening. I have called this man severally, but his number isn’t going through. I haven’t heard from him since I left his place that day.

I went there yesterday and his house help said he has travelled back to Lebanon. I don’t know who to tell. I am dying gradually. I feel weaker as the days go by. The bleeding isn’t stopping and I am losing blood. I am scared this is spiritual. What should I do now?

Regulate Social Media – Kobby Kyei To Govt

0

Kobby Kyei

Award-winning blogger, Kobby Kyei, has said government needs to regulate social media use in Ghana.

He noted a two-pronged approach of censorship and support.

“How are we going to mute the people disturbing the community, disturbing the nation, and amplify those who are doing positive things?” he suggested, speaking to Nana Romeo on Okay FM.

He expressed concern over how “difficult it is to get attention through speaking about positive things.”

“Why is it so? It is because when someone insults another, it goes viral,” he lamented.

He emphasised, “It is up to us as a community, leadership, and nation to now instruct the social media platforms to mute people based on what they post.

“That is the bigger picture of the conversation we need to have as a country.”

The PR executive urged Meta and other social media companies to promote “people who are doing technology, mathematics, creative arts, philanthropy – people who project our creative space economically, socially, things that will empower the nation.”

Kyei recalled “a minister I won’t name who asked Google and WhatsApp executives” to block people from watching his daughter’s leaked sextape, emphasising if “an individual of wealth and power” could achieve that, a government could do even more.

He challenged Ghana Education Service (GES) to add social media etiquette and education about the digital world to the syllabus “just as it’s been done abroad”.

We‘ll Invest In Technologies To Strengthen Collateral Registry – BoG

0

Dr. Zakari Mumuni (M) with some staff

The Bank of Ghana (BoG) has assured the public of its commitment to continuosly invest in advanced technologies including artificial intelligence, to enhance security and strengthen collateral Registry.

Speaking at the 15th anniversary of the establishment of the Collateral Registry on behalf of the Governor of the Bank of Ghana (BoG), the first Deputy Governor, Dr. Zakari Mumuni said BOG is also undertaking policy and regulatory reforms to make the legal framework agile and responsive to the evolving credit landscape.

He stated, “we will deepen partnerships with institutions such as the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA), the Office of the Registrar of Companies (ORC), the Lands Commission, the International Finance Corporation (IFC), and the Swiss State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO).

According to him, the collaborations will introduce global best practices and technical support to drive further impact.

He said it was important for Ghanaians to acknowledge and recognise the role of Collateral Registry, in transforming credit market and supporting financial inclusion, especially for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in Ghana.

The Collateral  Registry was established under the Borrowers and Lenders Act, 2008 (Act 773) and  later repealed and replaced with the 2020 Act (Act 1052) in response to a fragmented system for secured credit, where multiple laws coexisted without offering a clear or efficient path for lenders and borrowers.

He said before its establishment in February 2010, lending was hampered by information, limited data on collateral, and a preference for immovable assets which increased risk for lenders and restricted credit access for businesses without land or buildings to pledge.

Dr. Mumuni however mentioned that the Collateral Registry addressed the challenges by creating a centralised platform for the registration of both movable and immovable assets, offering lenders a trusted and transparent system to assess credit risk and protect their security interests

“The ability to register and search collateral has improved credit risk management. Today, financial institutions make better-informed lending decisions, and borrowers benefit from more predictable and efficient processes,” he added.

Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association suspends strike

0

By Jibril Abdul Mumuni

Accra, June 13,GNA- The Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNMA) has suspended its strike following a successful meeting with the Parliamentary Select
Committee on Health.

The Association in a media statement signed by its President Mrs. Perpetual Ofori-Ampofo, urged members to resume normal shift duties from Saturday, June 14, 2025, assuring them of its consistent efforts to ensure the full implementation of their collective agreement.

This suspension comes after a series of industrial actions, which included the withdrawal of emergency and Out-Patient Department services by the Association.

These actions, which commenced on June 2, 2025, were prompted by the government’s perceived lack of commitment to implementing the Collective Agreement for Ghanaian nurses and midwives.

The GRNMA reiterated that matters affecting the conditions of service for nurses and midwives were paramount, as they provided essential services to the Ghanaian population.

“We are nurses and midwives trained to provide essential health services to the Ghanaian population, and matters affecting us which are brought formally to the attention of the Employer must be treated with the urgency it deserves and in good faith.”

As nurses and midwives, we do not take delight in seeing our patients suffer; however, we cannot take good care of others when the system does not take good care of us,” the statement said.

The GRNMA emphasised that it is a non-partisan professional association and trade union, holding the Collective Bargaining Certificate covering all nurses and midwives in Ghana.

“In its sixty-five years (65 years) of existence, the GRNMA has NEVER aligned with any political party in Ghana. Rather, it has worked with every government since 1960 in building a stronger and more resilient health system responsive to the health needs of Ghanaians whilst at the same time representing the interests of nurses and midwives in matters related to their welfare and general working conditions,” the statement said.

The Association praised the Parliament Select Committee for its intervention and lauded the nursing and midwifery fraternity for their deep sense of solidarity in adhering to the roadmap.

IMF backs implementation GH¢1 fuel levy as vital to Ghana’s fiscal recovery

0

International Monetary Fund (IMF) International Monetary Fund (IMF)

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has endorsed Ghana’s Energy Sector Shortfall and Debt Repayment Levy, describing it as a strategic measure which aligns with the country’s fiscal goals under the Extended Credit Facility (ECF) programme.

The levy, which imposes a GH¢1 charge per litre on petroleum products, is aimed at addressing the long-standing debt and financial shortfalls in the energy sector.

Speaking at a press briefing, Director of the IMF’s Communications Department, Julie Kozack, said the revenue measure will play a crucial role in helping Ghana tackle structural issues in the sector while supporting broader fiscal reforms.

“On the fuel levy, what I can say is that this is a new measure that will help generate additional resources to tackle the challenges in Ghana’s energy sector. It is also going to bolster Ghana’s ability to deliver on the fiscal objectives under the programme,” she said.

The IMF’s comments come on the back of the recent passage and presidential assent to the Revised Energy Sector Levy (Amendment) Bill, 2025, by President John Mahama on June 5, 2025.

Although implementation of the new levy was initially slated for June 6, enforcement was deferred to July 16, 2025, due to concerns raised by the Chamber of Oil Marketing Companies (COMAC) over operational readiness.

Under the revised levy structure, consumers will now pay GH¢1.96 per litre of fuel as the Energy Sector Shortfall and Debt Repayment Levy.

Oil marketers have warned that the levy will increase the average price of petrol at the pumps from GH¢11 per litre to around GH¢13 per litre, raising concerns about its inflationary impact.

Haircut for Ladies: Enhancing Beauty and Confidence

0

A haircut is more than just a change in appearance—it is an expression of personality, style, and sometimes even a fresh start. For ladies, choosing the right haircut can enhance facial features, boost confidence, and reflect their lifestyle or mood. With a wide variety of hair textures, lengths, and personal preferences, women today have countless options when it comes to styling their hair.

One of the most popular styles for ladies is the bob cut, which is timeless and versatile. From a sleek, straight bob to a layered or textured one, this haircut suits various face shapes and is easy to maintain. For those who prefer longer styles, layered cuts add volume and movement to the hair, creating a soft and feminine look. Pixie cuts, on the other hand, offer a bold, edgy appeal and are perfect for women who love low-maintenance, high-impact styles.

When choosing a haircut, factors such as face shape, hair texture, lifestyle, and personal taste should be considered. Oval faces can typically pull off most styles, while round faces may benefit from layered or asymmetrical cuts that create the illusion of length. Thick, curly hair often looks stunning in layered styles that reduce bulk and define curls, while fine hair can benefit from blunt cuts that add fullness.

Ultimately, a well-chosen haircut can transform a woman’s appearance and uplift her spirit. Consulting with a professional stylist ensures that the cut flatters her features and aligns with her maintenance preferences. Whether it’s a dramatic chop or a subtle trim, a new haircut is a beautiful way for women to reinvent themselves and embrace their individuality.

Agradaa Blames Empress Gifty’s Lawyer For No Show In Court

0

Agradaa

General Overseer of Heaven Way Chapel, Evangelist Patricia Asiamah, popularly known as Agradaa, has claimed that her lawyer’s failure to appear in court yesterday was due to Empress Gifty’s legal team’s inability to serve them with the legal documents on time.

Her comments follows proceedings at the Tema High Court on June 11, 2025, where she is facing a GH¢20 million defamation suit filed by gospel singer Empress Gifty.

Earlier, Empress Gifty’s lawyer told the media that the court could not proceed with a motion for an interlocutory injunction because Agradaa’s counsel failed to show up.

He added that Agradaa’s lawyer had also filed to dismiss the suit, arguing that her statements, while insulting, did not amount to defamation.

In response, Agradaa took to social media to explain her side of the story. She claimed her lawyer was not properly served and accused Empress Gifty’s lawyer of failing to follow legal procedures.

“That self-acclaimed lawyer was supposed to serve my lawyer seven days before the hearing, but he didn’t,” she said in a video. “The documents were only handed to the bailiff the day before court.”

She argued that short-notice service was improper and insisted the public should know the real reason behind her lawyer’s absence.

The legal dispute stems from an ongoing social media feud between the two public figures. Agradaa allegedly made defamatory remarks against Empress Gifty and her husband, prompting the gospel musician to file the lawsuit. The case has since drawn significant public attention, particularly on social media.

Proceedings continue as both sides prepare for the next steps in the legal battle.

Speaker Decries Disrespect For Parliamentary Rules

0

Alban Bagbin

The Speaker of Parliament, Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, has condemned what he described as blatant disregard for the rules and authority of Parliament following a disruptive incident in the House on Tuesday, June 10, 2025.

Addressing members on the floor yesterday, Speaker Bagbin expressed grave concern over what he termed as growing indiscipline and disrespect within the House, stressing that the situation is of serious public concern and threatens the integrity of Ghana’s democratic process.

“I find it quite unfortunate, and I actually condemn it, that on the same day I reminded members about strict compliance with the Constitution and Standing Orders, members would go on to blatantly disregard these rules and disrespect the speakership, even in the presence of the mace,” the Speaker said.

“The mace is the symbol of authority in this House. When it is upright, it is not to be disobeyed,” he declared.

The Speaker was referring to Tuesday’s confrontation, where Dr. Nana Ayew Afriyie, the Member of Parliament (MP) for Effiduase-Asokore, attempted to read a statement of urgent public importance without prior approval from the Speaker or submission to House leadership as required by the Standing Orders.

According to the Speaker, the First Deputy Speaker, Bernard Ahiafor, who was presiding at the time, cautioned Dr. Afriyie but the member persisted, prompting the Deputy Speaker to order his removal from the chamber by the Marshal.

Speaker Bagbin revealed that several members from the Minority side physically shielded Dr. Afriyie, obstructing the enforcement of the Deputy Speaker’s directive, while heated confrontations and unprintable language ensued.

“I was observing all of this from my office,” the Speaker stated, adding that he noted the body language and involvement of members during the fracas.

The Speaker used the opportunity to educate both members and the public on the proper parliamentary procedure regarding statements on the floor.

He emphasised that such statements must be submitted in advance, reviewed by leadership, and approved by the Speaker before presentation to the House. This process, he explained, ensures order, prevents ambushes, and allows members adequate time to prepare their responses.

“This is a procedure we have not been following, but going forward, we must adhere to it strictly to forestall such occurrences,” he said, citing relevant Standing Orders that regulate the process.

Mr. Bagbin cautioned members against undermining the authority of Parliament, stressing that the powers of the Speaker are backed by law and must be respected.

Quoting Shakespeare, he said, “Even a dog is obeyed in office,” underscoring the need for institutional respect and discipline.

“This is not a matter I am referring to any committee. I have discussed it with leadership, and we have agreed to resolve it openly here for all to be guided. We cannot unilaterally override our rules or obstruct due process. It endangers not only the legitimacy of our work but also the survival of our democracy,” he warned.

Minority Urges Patience and Tolerance

Commenting on the matter, the Minority Leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, pledged his caucus’ full cooperation with the Speaker in efforts to restore order, discipline, and decorum in the House.

He expressed gratitude to the Speaker for taking decisive steps to address the situation and guide Parliament toward a resolution.

“We have already assured you at conclave that you will have our cooperation in ensuring that there is order to guide our proceedings and to help uphold the integrity of this House,” Mr. Afenyo-Markin stated.

He emphasised that the process of building a functional and respectful Parliament is continuous, and he reiterated the Minority’s commitment to supporting the Speaker, particularly in his absence when his deputies preside over proceedings.

“Mr. Speaker, moving to resolve problems of this House is a continuous process. We will assist the Chair, especially now that you are overwhelmed with other administrative duties. Your deputies will often preside, and we will accord them the same courtesy and cooperation, as their positions are guaranteed by the Constitution,” he assured.

The Minority Leader also urged members to cultivate patience and tolerance, describing Parliament as a family where disagreements are inevitable but must be managed respectfully.

“I want to echo your call for patience and add tolerance. We are here as a family. We may disagree, but that is the beauty of politics. Let us disagree, but let us be measured in the language we use,” Afenyo-Markin cautioned.

Majority’s Call

The Majority Leader, Mahama Ayariga, called on MPs to deepen their knowledge of the Standing Orders and parliamentary procedures to avoid unnecessary confusion and disruptions during proceedings.

He acknowledged the Speaker’s clarity on the issues and stressed that many of the challenges the House faces stem from a lack of familiarity with the rules that govern parliamentary business.

“Right Honorable Speaker, I think your statement is explanatory enough on the issues of yesterday, and the rules that should govern proceedings in this House,” Ayariga said, adding, “I have no intention of belaboring the point. I think all I can say is that we should all take time to study the rules.”

He emphasised that even after two decades in Parliament, he consistently refers to the rules of the House before taking any action or defending the conduct of his colleagues.

Fast-track Eastern Corridor to boost regional trade

0

The Chief Executive Officer of the Africa Centre for Economic Transformation (ACET), Mavis Owusu-Gyamfi, is calling on the government and the business community to urgently prioritise the full operationalisation of the Eastern corridor to unlock trade potential between Ghana and neighboring countries.

Speaking at the 2025 Citi Business Festival Trade Forum under the theme “Global Tariff Disputes: Navigating Ghana’s Recovery Strategy,” Ms. Owusu-Gyamfi said, turning the Akosombo trade route into a fully accessible and functional corridor must become a national priority if Ghana is to position itself as a key player in West African trade.

She downplayed the potential impact of the global tariff war being reignited by the Trump-led U.S. administration, describing it as negligible in the Ghanaian context.

They According to her, the real growth opportunity lies in strengthening regional trade infrastructure and reducing internal bottlenecks.

“We have about 25 percent decrease on our imports due to the cedi appreciation, and we are talking about the Akosombo Corridor. Shouldn’t this be the time, when the business community and government should be sitting through to see how we fast track that so that we can start laying the foundation for African trade,” she asserted.

Land Documentation Processes Frustrating Clients – John Sam

0

John Sam

Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of John Sam Realty, John Sam, has lamented the persistent challenge which threatens to undermine efforts in encouraging diasporans to return and invest in the country’s real estate sector.

According to him, the complexity and risks surrounding land documentation is a major deterrent to real estate investors.

He cited recent reports of land disputes in Accra, with many buyers especially those from the diaspora falling victim to fraudulent transactions and unclear ownership claims.

“With the government urging Ghanaians abroad to live and invest locally, these unresolved land issues have become a source of frustration and financial loss,” he said.

Addressing the need for people to do their due diligence when acquiring properties, Mr. Sam, said “Many clients come to us disappointed because they did not fully understand the importance of land title certificates, cadastral plans, or properly stamped indentures.

These legal documents are not just bureaucratic requirements; they are essential safeguards that protect buyers from disputes and ensure that property rights are secure.”

He highlighted that a cadastral plan, an accurate, surveyor-prepared map defining a property’s boundaries is vital for registration and dispute prevention. Similarly, the indenture, a legal contract between seller and buyer, must be officially stamped and registered with the Lands Commission to be valid.

Mr. Sam indicated that these challenges are further compounded for diaspora buyers who often navigate these processes remotely, thereby increasing their vulnerability.

“Many Ghanaians abroad are excited to invest in their homeland, but without the right guidance, they risk purchasing land that has overlapping claims or incomplete documentation,” he said.

To help address these problems, he said John Sam Realty has developed comprehensive services that assist clients from start to finish.

“This includes on-site surveying, preparation of legal documents, verification of ownership at the Lands Commission, and assistance with the registration of land titles,” he added.

He further called on the government, its agencies and stakeholders to accelerate reforms in land administration, including digitizing records and simplifying registration procedures.

“While reforms are underway, buyers must be proactive. Engaging verified professionals and demanding proper documentation is the best way to avoid disappointment and secure investments,” he stated.

My Mother Was Insulted For Supporting My Career – Richie Mensah

Richie Mensah

Chief Executive Officer of Lynx Group Limited, Richie Mensah, has disclosed that his mother was insulted for supporting his decision to pursue a career in music instead of medicine.

Speaking on Changes with Roselyn Felli, Richie shared that many people expected him to study medicine after completing senior high school. However, he chose to follow his passion for music—with his mother’s full support.

“I was 17 when I started my journey. I told my mum I wanted to do music, and it shocked many people because they all expected me to go to medical school,” he said.

Richie recounted giving himself a year to try music, during which he opened a recording studio. His mother saw his determination and progress and continued to support him—even when others criticised her.

“So many people insulted her and said she was allowing her son to waste his intelligence and future. They couldn’t understand why I chose music over medicine,” he added.

The experience later inspired his hit song ‘Yaro’, which reflects the doubts and criticism he faced early in his career.

“Yaro’ means ‘small boy’ in Hausa. The song was my way of saying, ‘They say I be Yaro, but they can’t contest the Yaro,” he said.

Richie said the message behind the song is to encourage young people to follow their dreams, even when others don’t believe in them.

“Don’t let people limit you because of your age or the path you choose. Believe in yourself,” he said.

0

Helios Towers marked 15 years of partnership, progress, and purpose with a special anniversary gala held at the Grand Arena of the Accra International Conference Centre – celebrating a legacy that began in Ghana and now spans nine countries across Africa and the Middle East.

Since launching its operations in Ghana in 2010, Helios Towers has played a central role in the country’s digital transformation, enabling mobile coverage for over 18 million Ghanaians, establishing more than 1,096 sites, and leading the industry in green energy innovation with over 400 solar-powered towers.

“For 15 years, Helios Towers has been connecting communities and powering growth,” said Kweku Frempong, Managing Director of Helios Towers Ghana. “Ghana was where it all began, and it continues to be a cornerstone of our story — a place where we’ve built not only towers, but talent, trust, and lasting impact.

This is not just an anniversary – it’s a celebration of resilience, innovation, and what can be achieved when you invest in people and potential. We thank all those who have walked this path with us.”

The evening brought together senior government officials, telecom leaders, community partners, and employees to honour the relationships that have powered the business. Guests included Sam George, Minister for Communications and Digitalisation, and Sir Sam Jonah, Chairman of Helios Towers Ghana.

From one market to a continental footprint

From its single-market roots in Ghana, Helios Towers has grown into one of the leading independent telecom infrastructure providers in Africa, now operating over 14,000 towers across nine markets, including Ghana, Tanzania, DRC, Republic of Congo, Senegal, Malawi, Madagascar, South Africa and Oman.

This growth has been made possible by deep local partnerships and a workforce that is proudly Ghanaian — 100% of Helios Towers Ghana employees are Ghanaian, with 22% female representation in a traditionally male-dominated industry.

A Legacy of innovation, inclusion, and impact

Helios Towers Ghana has consistently led with innovation – most recently through a major solar rollout across the country. The company has also invested in rural connectivity with over 290 rural sites, and in human capital with nearly USD $1 million spent on training and upskilling to date.

Attorney General to Address Press on “Operation Recover All Loot” Today

Attorney General Dr. Dominic Akuritinga Ayine will brief the media today at 11 AM on the much-anticipated Operation Recover All Loot (ORAL). The initiative, launched under President Mahama’s administration, aims to hold public officials from the previous government accountable and recover misappropriated state resources.

Sources indicate over 2,000 corruption complaints have been received, with investigations into 36 high-profile cases potentially retrieving over US $20 billion. Alleged scandals involving undervalued state land sales, the PDS power deal, and the National Cathedral project are expected to feature prominently.

Dr. Ayine is likely to outline legal actions taken so far, highlight ongoing investigations, and affirm the government’s commitment to transparency and accountability.

This briefing will be a major test of the administration’s anti-corruption drive and could determine public confidence in its promise to recover lost assets and restore public trust.
