Free Ato Forson to focus on fiscal discipline

0

Policy think tank IMANI-Africa has called on President John Dramani Mahama to relieve Finance Minister, Dr Cassiel Ato Forson of his additional role as acting Defence Minister, warning that the dual responsibility could undermine fiscal discipline at a critical moment for the economy.

The call was made by IMANI-Africa President, Franklin Cudjoe, in a Facebook post assessing the early performance of the Mahama administration and outlining priorities ahead of the rollout of major government projects in 2026.

According to Mr Cudjoe, while President Mahama has โ€œstarted off very wellโ€, the scale and complexity of the governmentโ€™s planned โ€œBig Pushโ€ projects demand undivided attention from the Finance Minister to safeguard public finances.

โ€œPlease free Finance Minister, Ato Forson from the additional duty as Defence Minister so he can focus and continue being fiscally disciplined,โ€ he wrote.

He argued that Dr Forson must be allowed to concentrate fully on managing the economy, maintaining fiscal discipline and overseeing budget execution, especially as significant capital expenditure is expected in the coming year.

Cudjoe warned that overstretching key officials increases the risk of inefficiencies, procurement challenges and weak oversight, particularly in large-scale infrastructure projects.

He also proposed strengthening the Cabinet Office and appointing an Administrator-General or Assessor-General from the civil service to independently monitor and conduct risk analysis on all major government projects.

IMANIโ€™s Boss said proactive oversight would help prevent corruption, cost overruns and delays, stressing that Ghana cannot afford another cycle of waste and post-tenure accountability exercises.

Ghana at a ‘critical crossroads’, must mentor youth in integrity – Duffuor

0

Former Finance Minister, Dr. Kwabena Duffuor, has issued a public New Year message for 2026, extending โ€œsincere goodwill and renewed hope to every Ghanaian, at home and abroad.โ€

In the statement, Dr. Duffuor described the new year as โ€œa national moment of reckoningโ€ that calls for reflection on Ghanaโ€™s collective journey. He asserted that the nation โ€œstands at a critical crossroadsโ€ and stated that โ€œtruth with danger saves generations.โ€

The message identified specific challenges, including โ€œthe erosion of discipline, the weakening of moral restraint and the dominance of self-centeredness over selflessnessโ€ in public life. It cited โ€œindiscipline on our roads, disregard for our environment and the persistent abuse of public trustโ€ as developments that โ€œthreaten not only our institutions but the very values that once defined us as a people.โ€

Dr. Duffuor called for โ€œcitizens and leaders who are truthful, dependable, public-spirited and guided by a higher sense of duty.โ€ He emphasized the need to โ€œmentor the young ones to be deep rooted in integrity before acquisition of skills,โ€ stating that โ€œskills without integrity are insufficientโ€ and โ€œintegrity without skills is incomplete.โ€

The message further advocated for an intentional investment โ€œin religious values across our societyโ€ to raise a generation that โ€œvalues truth, keeps its word, respects life and places the public good above private gain.โ€

While acknowledging a โ€œsobering reality,โ€ the statement noted that โ€œGhanaโ€™s story has never been one of despair,โ€ but rather one of โ€œresilience, conscience and renewal.โ€ It concluded that โ€œnational transformation will not begin in policy alone. It must begin with character.โ€

The message defined renewal as โ€œthe duty of every parent, teacher, professional, faith leader and public servant,โ€ and described the year 2026 as โ€œa defining moment.โ€

The communication ended with the wish that the new year โ€œrenew our conscience, strengthen our unity and awaken in us a shared commitment to the Ghana we owe ourselves and generations yet unborn.โ€

The ‘missed’ prophecies of 2025

0

The year 2025, in less than 24 hours, will come to an end, and as has become a custom, Christians across Ghana would gather at various worship centres for the 31st Night Crossover Services.

At these services, which start on the night of December 31 and end on January 1, pastors issue prophecies into the lives of their congregants as well as some prominent Ghanaians. They also foretell some major events โ€” mostly tragedies โ€” which are supposed to happen in the country.

Before the prophets in the country issue their prophecies for the ensuing year, 2026, let us take a look at some of the prophecies made by some renowned prophets for the year 2025, which didnโ€™t come to pass, possibly because of prayers to avert them, as urged by the men of God.

Rev Owusu Bempeh:

The Founder and Leader of the Glorious Word Power Ministries International, Rev Isaac Owusu-Bempah, made numerous prophecies about events to expect in 2025, which did not happen, including the following:

Mass Blindness

“If we don’t pray this year, many people will experience eye diseases. A lot of people will go blind. I see numerous spectacles shedding tears. We curse that spirit of blindness,” he prayed.

Coronavirus-like disease

The man of God warned about the spread of a deadly disease resembling the coronavirus, which could emerge this year if prayers are not offered to avert it. According to him, he saw numerous people worldwide being affected by this disease.

“Just like the coronavirus we experienced a few years back, if we don’t pray, we will face another deadly disease of similar nature. I see a spirit hanging in the air, spewing the disease from its mouth, spreading it, and causing mass deaths. We must pray to avert this,” he added.

Child deaths

Rev. Owusu-Bempah also prophesied about a disease that could claim the lives of many children in Ghana this year if preventive prayers are not made.

Nigel Gaisie:

The founder and leader of Prophetic Hill Chapel, Nigel Gaisie, also released a series of prophecies set to unfold in 2025, which have so far not happened.

Here are some of them:

Terrible weather conditions in Europe

Gaisie prophesied severe weather disruptions, foreseeing devastating climate conditions in Europe.

A vice president from a West African country will pass away

Gaisie predicted the death of a vice president from a West African country.

Attacks on two traditional leaders, including a beheading

He warned of severe attacks on two traditional leaders, including the potential destoolment and even a beheading.

A significant loss involving a prominent female figure from the Central Region

Gaisie foresaw a significant loss involving a prominent female figure from Ghanaโ€™s Central Region, comparing the situation to the tragic death of former Vice President Paa Kwesi Amissah-Arthur, and predicted a state burial.

Prayers needed for American media personality Oprah Winfrey

He called for prayers for American media mogul Oprah Winfrey, suggesting that she may face health challenges.

Pastor Agyemang Elvis:

The leader and founder of Grace Mountain Chapel International, Pastor Agyemang Elvis, the host of the midnight prayer section, Alpha House, also stated that there was going to be a pandemic greater than the COVID-19 pandemic.

“I am not a prophet, but I saw that something terrible is going to happen. There is going to be another serious pandemic in the world. This one is going to be more serious than we ever thought. It is going to have something to do with the skin. No one can touch the infected person because the disease can easily be transmitted through body contact. However, those who will seek the face of the Lord and delight in His words will be saved. Some years ago, I spoke about how they were creating a disease in a lab, but nobody paid attention to me until the coronavirus came into the system,” Pastor Elvis Agyemang stated.

Foreign Affairs Minister completes rollout of Passport Application Centres in all regional capitals

0

The Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has commissioned a Passport Application Centre in Damongo, effectively completing governmentโ€™s pledge to establish passport offices in all 16 regional capitals.

The commissioning ceremony, held on Wednesday, December 31, 2025, marks a significant milestone in the governmentโ€™s decentralisation agenda, aimed at expanding access to essential public services and easing the burden on citizens who previously had to travel long distances to apply for passports.

Addressing stakeholders at the event, Mr. Ablakwa revealed that when he assumed office, only nine regions had passport application centres.

He said the Ministry deliberately worked towards ensuring that all regional capitals had fully operational centres before the end of 2025.

โ€œIn pursuit of this vision, application centres were successfully opened in Bolgatanga, Dambai, Techiman, Damongo, Goaso, Nalerigu and Sefwi-Wiawso within the year,โ€ the Minister noted.

He also outlined ongoing reforms within the passport administration system, stressing governmentโ€™s commitment to protecting the integrity of Ghanaโ€™s passport.

According to him, strict verification processes will be enforced to ensure that only eligible Ghanaian citizens are issued the travel document.

The Paramount Chief of the Gonja Traditional Area, Yagbonwura Bii-Kunuto Jewu Soale I, commended the government for bringing the service closer to the people, describing the initiative as timely and impactful.

Savannah Regional Minister, Isifu Salisu Bi-Awurobe, pledged his administrationโ€™s support to ensure the smooth operation of the Damongo centre.

He further announced plans to allocate a two-acre parcel of land for the construction of a permanent passport office in the region.

Representing the Savannah Parliamentary Caucus, the Member of Parliament for Salaga South, Zuwera Mohammed Ibrahimah, expressed optimism that the facility would significantly reduce the challenges residents previously faced in accessing passport services outside the region.

The event drew service commanders, traditional and religious leaders, as well as residents from across the Savannah Region.

Earlier in the day, the Foreign Affairs Minister paid a courtesy call on the Yagbonwura at the Jakpa Palace, where he briefed the Overlord on the governmentโ€™s passport reforms and decentralisation efforts.

Nigeria drops criminal charges against Sam Jonah

0

Nigeriaโ€™s Attorney General of the Federation has ordered the discontinuation of criminal proceedings against Ghanaian business mogul Sir Sam Jonah and three other individuals, after determining that investigations failed to establish a prima facie case.

The directive follows a petition submitted by Sir Sam Jonah to Ghanaโ€™s Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, on December 13, 2025.

In the petition, the statesman appealed for diplomatic intervention over what he described as the unlawful takeover of his investments at the River Park Estate in Abuja, allegedly carried out by Nigeriaโ€™s Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC).

The decision to terminate the case was conveyed through official correspondence from the Office of the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF), signed by the Director of Public Prosecutions, M.B. Abubakar, after a detailed review of police investigation files.

According to the AGF, allegations of forgery, fraud and related offences brought against Mr Samuel Esson Jonah, Kojo Ansah Mensah, Victor Quainoo and Abu Arome could not be substantiated.

Investigations by the Nigeria Police Force, the AGF noted, fell short of the evidentiary threshold required to sustain criminal charges.

โ€œNo prima facie case of forgery and other related offencesโ€ฆ has been established against the aforementioned individuals,โ€ the Attorney General stated in reference to Charge No. CR/402/25.

The AGF also endorsed the findings of a Special Investigation Panel report dated March 28, 2025, which examined petitions involving Jonah Capital Nigeria Limited, Houses for Africa Nigeria Limited and the River Park Estate in Lugbe. The report was described as โ€œvalid, comprehensive and unbiased.โ€

Conversely, the Attorney General criticised conclusions reached by the IGP Monitoring Unit, describing them as โ€œhighly misleadingโ€ and faulting attempts to criminalise what he said was essentially a commercial dispute, contrary to Nigeriaโ€™s Administration of Criminal Justice Act, 2015.

Concerns were also raised about a police press briefing held on June 27, 2025, where certain individuals were publicly presented as owners and managers of the River Park Estate without any judicial determination.

The AGF said such actions were inappropriate and exceeded the lawful mandate of the police.

As part of the directive, the Attorney General ordered the Corporate Affairs Commission to reverse any administrative measures taken against the affected companies based on the disputed police report, and cautioned the Commission against actions that could interfere with ongoing court proceedings.

Beyond ending the case against the four individuals, the AGF called for fresh investigations into alleged incidents of intimidation, assault and property destruction at the River Park Estate, reportedly involving persons acting on the instructions of one Paul Odili.

The Nigeria Police Force was further directed to ensure the safety of residents and guarantee their peaceful enjoyment of property at the estate.

Ghanaโ€™s reset must begin with character, not policy

0

Former Finance Minister and ex-Governor of the Bank of Ghana, Dr Kwabena Duffuor, has issued a sweeping call for national moral renewal, warning that Ghanaโ€™s future depends as much on character as it does on policy and economic reforms.

In a New Year message to Ghanaians at home and abroad, Dr Duffuor said the nation stands โ€œat a critical crossroadsโ€ and must confront what he described as a deepening erosion of discipline, integrity and public-spiritedness.

โ€œA new year is more than a change in calendar. It is a national moment of reckoning,โ€ he said, urging citizens to reflect honestly on the countryโ€™s direction and the values shaping public life.

Dr Duffuor cautioned that indiscipline on the roads, environmental neglect and the abuse of public trust were steadily undermining Ghanaโ€™s institutions and moral foundations.

โ€œOur nation stands at a critical crossroads. We must address uncomfortable truths because โ€˜truth with danger saves generationโ€™,โ€ he stated, adding that โ€œthe erosion of discipline, the weakening of moral restraint and the dominance of self-centeredness over selflessness increasingly define our public life.โ€

Calling for a deliberate reset, the former central bank governor stressed the need for leadership rooted in both competence and ethics, particularly among the younger generation.

โ€œWe must mentor the young ones to be deep rooted in integrity before acquisition of skills. Skills without integrity are insufficient. Integrity without skills is incomplete,โ€ he said. โ€œOur nation needs both because, integrity and skills are the two pillars of leadership.โ€

Dr Duffuor also advocated stronger investment in religious and moral values across society, arguing that national transformation cannot be achieved through policy alone.

โ€œNational transformation will not begin in policy alone. It must begin with character,โ€ he said, while calling for a generation that โ€œvalues truth, keeps its word, respects life and places the public good above private gain.โ€

Despite his sober assessment, Dr Duffuor struck an optimistic tone, reminding Ghanaians of the countryโ€™s history of resilience and sacrifice.

โ€œGhanaโ€™s story has never been one of despair. It has always been one of resilience, conscience and renewal,โ€ he noted, urging citizens to draw inspiration from the selflessness of the nationโ€™s forebears.

He emphasised that moral renewal is a shared responsibility, not one confined to government.

โ€œRenewal is not the responsibility of government alone. It is the duty of every parent, teacher, professional, faith leader and public servant,โ€ Dr Duffuor said, adding that when integrity becomes the standard, โ€œcorruption loses its grip.โ€

Framing 2026 as a decisive year, he challenged Ghanaians to act collectively to restore the countryโ€™s values and secure a stronger future.

โ€œThe New Year, 2026 is therefore a defining moment for us all,โ€ he said. โ€œLet history record that when Ghana faced moral decline, we the people rose with courage and conviction.โ€

Dr Duffuor ended his message with a call for unity and renewed national purpose: โ€œMay the year renew our conscience, strengthen our unity and awaken in us a shared commitment to the Ghana we owe ourselves and generations yet unborn.โ€

โ€œHappy New Year, and May Ghana rise to be the Great Nation we all want.โ€

Deputy Foreign Affairs Minister commissions Passport Application Centre in Goaso

0

The Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs and Member of Parliament, James Gyakye Quayson, has commissioned a new Passport Application Centre in Goaso, in the Ahafo Region, marking a significant step in governmentโ€™s drive to decentralise public services.

The facility was officially opened on Wednesday, December 31, 2025, and is expected to ease the burden on applicants who previously had to travel long distances to access passport services.

Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, Mr Gyakye Quayson said the Goaso centre would help reduce travel costs, delays, and the frustrations associated with passport acquisition, while also curbing the activities of middlemen who exploit applicants.

He reaffirmed governmentโ€™s commitment to bringing essential services closer to the people and urged staff of the centre to discharge their duties with professionalism, integrity, and efficiency.

To demonstrate the centreโ€™s readiness, the Deputy Minister personally presented a passport to an applicant who had completed the application process at the Goaso facility.

The Ahafo Regional Minister, Charity Gardiner, described the commissioning as a fulfilment of President Mahamaโ€™s vision of improving access to public services nationwide.

She noted that the new centre would not only improve efficiency but also decongest other passport application centres across the country.

She further called on stakeholders and residents to support and protect the facility to ensure its sustainability and effective operation.

Representing the parliamentary caucus of the Ahafo Region, the Member of Parliament for Asutifi South, Collins Dauda, expressed appreciation to the government for its continued investment in development projects aimed at improving the welfare of residents in the region.

Ghana Premier League: Medeama hold GoldStars to reclaim top spot

Medeama SC stretched their lead on top of the table by a point following a goalless draw at GoldStars in the delayed week 14 fixture of the Ghana Premier League on Wednesday.

The Mauve and Yellow were level on 30 points with Asante Kotoko prior to their trip to the Duns Park and settling for a stalemate brought them to 31 points with a game to close the first half of the season.

The two-time FA Cup winners walked into the game with a confident boosting 1-0 victory at Heart of Lions in week 16 and the result chalked at GoldStars increased their unbeaten streak to 13 in 16 matches.

Medeama have gone 13 games without a defeat

Medeama have clocked wins against tougher opponents like former champions Berekum Chelsea, 2023 CAF Confederation semifinalists Dreams FC and Nations FC with nerve-wracking draws against former champions Asante Kotoko and Aduana FC.

Their 31 points haul sees them one step above Asante Kotoko, two away from reigning champions GoldStars and Aduana and three adrift of Hearts of Oak.

Medeama coach Ibrahim Ibrahim Tanko will look to retain the top spot when he leads his charges against Hearts of Oak at the Tarkwa TnA Park in the final game of the first half of the season on Sunday, January 4.

Philadelphia Overrun by Motor Miracle as Adom Kyei Duah Devotees Turn Bompata Into Mega Parking Lot

0

Philadelphia City in Adansi Bompata has transformed into a maze of metal and pilgrims as thousands of private vehicles and commercial buses flood the area ahead of the much-anticipated annual pilgrimage and crossover service with Prophet Stephen Adom Kyei Duah. What is typically a quiet township has become the epicentre of spiritual tourism, drawing worshippers from every corner of the country and beyond all determined to usher in the new year under the prophetโ€™s ministry.

By midday, the main access roads resembled a locked-down highway. Buses carrying congregants in their thousands crawled bumper-to-bumper toward the church grounds, while car owners scrambled for any available space to park, from roadside shoulders to school fields and even private lawns. Traffic direction has quietly shifted into the hands of church volunteers, who are working with local authorities to keep the situation under control.

The economic ripple is already visible. Food vendors have set up improvised kitchens along the streets, serving everything from local meals to quick snacks for tired travellers who have spent hours in the congestion. Fuel stations are recording booming sales, while petty traders are cashing in on the massive crowd with items ranging from water and headscarves to folding chairs for the night-long service.

Despite the overwhelming pressure on infrastructure, the atmosphere remains expectant rather than chaotic. Pilgrims chant prayers as they march from their parked buses; others wave banners and flags bearing the prophetโ€™s image. The crossover service, which has gained national attention in recent years, promises prophetic declarations, deliverance moments, and messages of renewal as worshippers prepare to step into 2026.

Security presence has increased to ensure crowd safety as dusk approaches, with plans in place to manage the exit rush after midnight. For many believers, the journey itself is a sacrifice and a statement faith in motion, wheels turning toward spiritual rebirth.

Tonight, as the township swells far beyond its usual population, Philadelphia City will serve not only as a place of worship but as a testament to the influence Prophet Stephen Adom Kyei Duah commands. And when the final prayer is said and engines roar back to life, the story of this holy gridlock will linger long after the new yearโ€™s first dawn.

Police nab suspect over foiled gold robbery plot at Manso Abrense

0

The Ashanti South Regional Police Command has arrested a suspect over an alleged conspiracy to rob a gold miner at Manso Abrense, near Manso Nsiana in the Ashanti Region.

In a statement issued by the police, the suspect, identified as Stephen Kwakye, was picked up on December 30, 2025, following intelligence reports that he and other accomplices were planning an attack on a miner who routinely transports gold to Kumasi for sale.

Police investigations indicate that Kwakye played a central role in organising the planned robbery.

He is alleged to have closely monitored the movements of the victim and coordinated with other accomplices to ambush him while he was in transit.

Acting on the intelligence, police officers placed the suspect under surveillance and allowed the plan to unfold.

He was arrested when he reportedly showed up to collect his share of the proceeds after being informed that the robbery had been โ€œsuccessfulโ€.

During interrogation, the suspect is said to have admitted his involvement in organising the robbery.

Stephen Kwakye is currently in police custody assisting with investigations, while police efforts continue to track down and arrest his accomplices to face the full rigours of the law

Bloody NPP Primaries, Coup against Mahama, Deaths and More: 2026 prophecies by Owusu-Bempah

0

The Founder and Leader of the Glorious Word Power Ministries International, Rev Isaac Owusu-Bempah, has made numerous prophecies about events to expect in 2026, claiming to have seen them through spiritual revelations.

Before issuing the prophecies, he defended his ministry, saying that God reveals future happenings to give mankind the opportunity to pray against them if they are bad things.

The controversial man of God prophesied about various issues, including child deaths, the spread of a disease worse than the coronavirus, the deaths of prominent Ghanaians, the passing of a great Ghanaian spiritual leader, and aeroplane crashes, among others.

1. Bloody NPP primaries

Owusu-Bempah said that the upcoming presidential primaries of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) are likely to become bloody if care is not taken.

He, therefore, urged members of the party and the general public to pray against it.

โ€œNPP, please listen to this. Don’t despise what I’m saying to youโ€ฆ I saw an image which had human characteristicsโ€”it was like a human being. And this personality was standing in the midst of the contestants who are contesting in the flagbearership race.

โ€œI saw that the personality, the image standing in the midst of the contestants, was bleeding, and I was asking God, what is the significance of this? And God said to me that the partyโ€™s election, if care is not taken and they are not careful enough, will become chaotic and there will be bloodshed, and some people will lose their lives in the process, and it will lead to division in the party,โ€ he said.

He added, โ€œDon’t despise what I’m saying. This is not politics; Iโ€™m not doing politics here. This is about the lives of people.โ€

2. Coup attempt against President Mahama

He also said that there is going to be a coup attempt against President John Dramani Mahama by certain foreign elements, but the coup will not be successful.

He urged the public to pray against a coup attempt by foreigners, which he said is meant to disrupt the good works of the current president, John Dramani Mahama.

โ€œCertain people have planned, and some of the people who are planning, or have planned, are foreigners who will come into Ghana. What I am saying is something I sawโ€”that they entered this nation when we were not conscious of ourselves as a nation. All of a sudden, we heard there was a coup dโ€™รฉtat,โ€ he said.

He added, โ€œThose who are planning that evil and want to stage a coup in this country, this is a warning to you because you will not succeed. And so we will pray about it, but the security agencies we have in this nation must be vigilant.โ€

He urged the supposed coup plotters to desist from going ahead with their plan because they will be arrested.

3. The death of former Presidents of Ghana

He also prophesied that some persons who have led Ghana before are going to die in 2026, warning that if former leaders do not heed the prophetic warnings, the prophecies will come to pass.

He, therefore, called for prayers for former leaders who have previously ruled Ghana to prevent calamities, emphasising the importance of collective prayer and intercession for the nationโ€™s leaders.

4. The death of a famous former Ghanaian boxer

He also said that the country is likely to witness the death of a former Ghanaian boxer, adding that this death is not the will of God and can be averted by prayers.

Below are more of Owusu-Bempahโ€™s prophecies, which he urged the nation to pray against if they are bad, or pray to protect if they are good:

The death of an internationally acclaimed boxer who has made a mark on the world

The death of a great man of God and a faith-based leader

A fight on the floor of the Parliament of Ghana, which the army or the police will be deployed to handle

The death of a presidential aspirant for the 2028 election

Unprecedented prosperity for Ghana as a country, with more opportunities for people to make a living

The deaths of prominent chiefs and a very famous journalist

An unprecedented number of road accidents in Ghana

The deaths of very important personalities in Nigeria and the United States of America

Owusuโ€‘Bempahโ€™s โ€˜Mass Blindnessโ€™ and Nigelโ€™s Beheading Didnโ€™t Happen

0

According to a report by Ghanaweb on Wednesday, December 31, as 2025 comes to an end, Ghanaians are reflecting on a year filled with bold religious predictions that did not happen as claimed. Popular prophets, including Reverend Isaac Owusuโ€‘Bempah and Prophet Nigel Gaisie, made several highโ€‘profile prophecies for the year, but many of these forecasts failed to materialize.ย

Reverend Isaac Owusuโ€‘Bempah, leader of the Glorious Word Power Ministries International, made a number of dramatic statements early in the year. Among these was a warning of โ€œmass blindnessโ€ that would affect many people in Ghana. However, as the year closes, this prediction did not occur in the literal sense, sparking discussions among Christians and critics alike.ย

Similarly, Prophet Nigel Gaisie, founder of the Prophetic Hill Chapel Worldwide, made several forecasts that drew wide attention. One of his most controversial predictions was that a chief would be beheaded and various leaders would face violent attacks. These dramatic events, which captured public imagination, did not take place in 2025.ย

Both prophets also made anticipations tied to political and national developments. In the past, Nigel Gaisie prophesied about significant political outcomes, including coups or instability, but these too remained unfulfilled for the year. Meanwhile, Owusuโ€‘Bempahโ€™s electionโ€‘related prophecies for 2025 also failed to reflect actual outcomes.ย

The trend of highโ€‘profile yet unfulfilled prophecies has stirred public debate in Ghana. Many citizens are questioning the credibility of prophetic declarations after 2025 ended without the predicted events. Some religious leaders and commentators have pointed to the risks of tying prophecy too closely to specific worldly events like violence or political upheaval, urging caution in how spiritual forecasts are communicated. ย

Ghana declares war on illegal streaming of pay-TV content

0

The National Communications Authority (NCA), in a multi-agency collaboration, has announced a fresh offensive against internet streaming piracy of pay-TV content, citing severe financial losses to the state and creative sector, alongside heightened cybersecurity threats to consumers.

In a press release issued on December 31, 2025, the regulator stated that a stakeholder committee, led by the Minister for Communications, Digital Technology and Innovations (MoCDTI), is now actively working with the Cybersecurity Authority and Multichoice Ghana to clamp down on illegal streaming platforms.

The authority detailed the triple-threat posed by piracy, stating firmly, โ€œThe Committee, comprising representatives from the MoCDTI, NCA and Multichoice, is collaborating with other agencies including the Cybersecurity Authority to curb internet streaming piracy of pay TV content which causes loss of tax revenue, loss of revenue to the creative industry and increases consumer security risks to malware and phishing schemes.โ€

This coordinated move signals a shift towards treating content piracy not merely as a copyright issue, but as a national security and economic concern. The involvement of the Cybersecurity Authority highlights the governmentโ€™s focus on the dangers posed to consumers, who risk exposure to data theft and malicious software through illicit streaming sites and services.

The announcement also provided an update on the revised DSTV subscription packages, which came into effect on 1st October, 2025. The NCA confirmed that these enhanced value offerings โ€œwere duly implemented as announced and REMAIN IN FORCE.โ€ The regulator reported a positive public response to the changes, noting โ€œa significant increase in subscriptionsโ€ following their implementation.

The stakeholder committee, established to evaluate DSTV pricing, continues its work under the ministerโ€™s chairmanship.ย

The NCA affirmed that the โ€œWorking Group will continue its engagements to ensure our mutual commitments to the objectives are attained,โ€ indicating ongoing oversight of both the marketโ€™s pricing structure and the anti-piracy initiative.

This crackdown aims to protect legitimate content providers, ensure compliance with broadcasting regulations, and steer consumers towards secure, legal avenues for accessing pay-TV content, thereby safeguarding both the creative economy and individual users.

Gold boosts Cedi to shatter 30-year losing streak

0

In a historic reversal of a 30-year trend, the Ghana cedi has concluded the 2025 fiscal year with a performance that has stunned global economists and local traders alike.

Breaking a cycle of annual decline that had persisted since the early 1990s, the local currency capitalised on a surge in bullion prices and a retreating U.S. dollar to reclaim its seat as a heavyweight in the foreign exchange market.

According to year-end market data, the cedi posted a remarkable 41% appreciation against the greenback over the past twelve months, according to Bloomberg.

This surge represents the currencyโ€™s first annual gain since at least 1994โ€”the year Bloomberg first began compiling comprehensive exchange data for the countryโ€”marking a definitive end to three decades of consistent depreciation.

Defying Thirty Years of Gravity

Since the mid-90s, the cedi has been synonymous with vulnerability, often ranking among Africa’s most volatile currencies.

However, 2025 became the year the pacesetter spirit of the nation translated into fiscal resilience.

The cedi’s rally was not merely a local victory but a global phenomenon.

In a year defined by volatile emerging market trends, the cedi emerged as the best performer among 144 currencies tracked by Bloomberg, surpassed only by the Russian ruble.

The โ€˜Goldenโ€™ Catalysts of 2025

Analysts attribute this unprecedented gain to a perfect storm of favourable conditions:

  • The Gold Boom: As Africaโ€™s largest producer of the precious metal, Ghana benefited immensely from historic highs in global gold prices, which touched record peaks throughout the year.
  • Dollar Vulnerability: The Bloomberg Dollar Index is currently headed for its worst decline since 2017, as shifts in global trade and U.S. monetary policy cooled the greenbackโ€™s long-standing dominance.
  • Domestic Resilience: Strategic interventions by the Bank of Ghana, including the “Gold for Oil” and “Gold for Reserves” programmes, helped stabilise foreign exchange supply at critical intervals.

Impact on the “Ground”: A Mixed Paradox

While the macroeconomic data paints a picture of triumph, the impact on everyday Ghanaians remains a topic of intense debate.

The 41% climb has begun to stabilise the prices of imported essentials like fuel and electronics, but many households are still navigating the price stickiness of retail goods.

MetricHistorical Trend (1994โ€“2024)2025 PerformanceEconomic Impact

Sustainability: A New Chapter or a “Nine-Day Wonder”?

The Finance Ministry has been quick to assure stakeholders that this appreciation is “not a nine-day wonder” but the result of deliberate policy.

With the next major debt restructuring payments due in mid-2026, the current strength of the cedi provides a crucial buffer for the nation’s treasury.

As the first sun of 2026 rises, the narrative of the cedi has officially changed. For the first time in an entire generation, the local currency hasnโ€™t just survived the year; it has conquered it.

2026 prophecies by Nigel Gaisie

0

The Founder and Leader of Prophetic Hill Chapel, Prophet Nigel Gaisie, has released a series of prophecies set to unfold in the year 2026.

Speaking to his congregants during his churchโ€™s December 31, 2025, Watch Night service, the prophet shared that these prophecies were revealed to him by God and have global implications.

He urged prayers to avert some of the more unfortunate and negative events.

Despite some of the prophecies indicating doom, he assured Ghanaians that 2026 would be a good and prosperous year, yielding great results, unlike previous years.

Spanning across politics, security, and traditional institutions, here are the 2026 prophecies highlighted by Nigel Gaisie:

1. 2026 will be a year of unprecedented prosperity and economic transformation

Prophet Nigel Gaisie said that 2026 will be one of the best years of prosperity the country has ever seen.

According to him, the country will see unprecedented progress under the National Democratic Congress government of President John Dramani Mahama, with the countryโ€™s currency appreciating further to GHยข8.

He urged the president to strengthen the security of Sammy Gyamfi, the Chief Executive Officer of the GoldBod; the Minister of Finance, Dr Cassiel Atto Forson; and the Governor of the Bank of Ghana, Dr Johnson Asiama, whom he hinted will champion Ghanaโ€™s economic transformation.

Economic stress on Italy

Gaisie also prophesied that there would be some economic turmoil in the European nation, Italy.

โ€œI saw in a realm of the spirit, the Lord took my spirit to Italy, and I saw a little bit of stress in Italy. So let’s pray for Italy. Let’s pray for Italy. Italy will go through a little bit of stress, but we’ll keep praying for Italy,โ€ he said.

3. Attack on Donald Trump, America crying after September, and the fate of Joe Biden

The third prophecy of Nigel was on United States President Donald Trump and former President Joe Biden.

He said that President Trump would be attacked again, adding that country.

โ€œI still see an attack on the President of the United States of America. Let’s pray for Donald Trump against every attack on his person.

โ€œAgain, I saw America crying. I saw America crying prophetically after September. Let’s pray for Joe Biden,โ€ he said.

4. Coup dโ€™รฉtat in Ivory Coast

He also said that there is likely to be a military takeover in Ivory Coast in 2026.

โ€œLet’s pray for the Ivory Coast and let the security apparatus and the president of Ivory Coast be on serious alert. I saw military instability in Ivory Coast.

โ€œI saw a coup dโ€™รฉtat prophetically, spiritually, in Ivory Coast. If they don’t act on it, if they don’t pray and physically act on it, it will come to pass,โ€ he said.

5. Paramount Chief of Techiman must pray

Nigel also said that he saw something bad happening to the Paramount Chief of Techiman.

โ€œThe Lord carried me to Techiman. I didnโ€™t like what I saw about the paramountcy of Techiman. Let the paramount chief of Techiman be watchful, more wishful, and prayerful,โ€ he said.

6. Agradaa

He also prophesied that Patricia Asieduaa, popularly known as Nana Agradaa, who has been jailed for a number of crimes, will be released in 2026.

โ€œI saw Agradaaโ€™s release. I don’t know how it’s going to happen. On December 22, I was sleeping, and the Lord carried me into a vision. Then I saw, and I heard on the radio in a local language that she had been released.

โ€œSo when I was about to get out of my vision, I saw white handkerchiefs. I don’t know when. I don’t know how, but as a prophet of the Lord, who says and it cometh to pass, I’ve seen spiritually that Agradaa will be released,โ€ he said.

7. Bawumia winning NPP presidential primaries

He also prophesied that former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia will win the upcoming presidential primaries of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP).

He said that Dr Bawumia, who was the flagbearer of the NPP in the 2024 presidential election, will snatch the victory from another contender in the race he called โ€œMr Tesite.โ€

โ€œThe Spirit of God carried me. The Spirit of God carried me. And when the Spirit of God carried me, I saw Mr Tesite leading and seemingly as though he has won. Then I saw lamentations. I saw pleadings. I saw lamentations. I saw pleadings.

โ€œThen I saw that the win that is for Mr Tesite, I saw another take it. I saw Dr Bawumia take it. I saw the perfect will of God turning into the permissive will of God. I had a lot to talk there. I had a lot to speak to about that, but I’m being guided. But I’ve spoken the mind of God,โ€ he said.

8. Postponement of World Cup

Nigel also said that the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which is scheduled to take place in the United States, Mexico, and Canada, is likely to be put on hold.

โ€œI saw in America a lot of jetsโ€”a lot of jets in the space of America. If we don’t pray, the World Cup may not come on, or maybe we may postpone it, or there will be a problem with the America one.

โ€œThe LORD carried my spirit, and I saw planes in the space of America. I will pray and we will avert it because prayer can avert the black stars of Ghana,โ€ he said.

9. Black Stars will be in the finals of the World Cup

He also prophesied that Ghanaโ€™s menโ€™s national football team, the Black Stars, will do very well at the 2026 World Cup and will even reach the final of the event.

โ€œI’ve seen that they will go to the finals, finals. Listen, the Black Stars will do extremely well at the finals. I saw it. Black Stars of Ghana will do extremely well at the finals,โ€ he said.

Zelensky says peace deal is 90% ready in New Year address

0

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has said a peace agreement to end the war with Russia is “90% ready”, in a New Year address that largely focused on resistance to Moscow’s full-scale invasion.

Zelensky said the remaining 10% of the agreement to end nearly four years of conflict would “determine the fate of peace, the fate of Ukraine and Europe”.

In his own New Year speech, Russian President Vladimir Putin told his troops that “we believe in you and our victory”.

Earlier on Wednesday, Moscow also released what it said was evidence of Ukraine using drones to target Putin’s private home on Lake Valdai in north-west Russia, allegations Kyiv has strenuously denied.

It included a map allegedly showing that the drones were launched from the Sumy and Chernihiv regions of Ukraine and a video of a downed drone lying in snowy woodland. A serviceman standing next to the wreckage claims it is a Ukrainian Chaklun drone.

The BBC hasn’t been able to verify the footage, and it is not possible to locate where it was shot.

Russia would review its position on the ongoing peace negotiations as a result of the alleged incident, the Kremlin said.

However, Kaja Kallas, the EU’s top diplomat, on Wednesday described the Russian claims as a “deliberate distraction” and an attempt to derail the peace process.

In his 20-minute address to the nation, Zelensky said that Ukraine did not want peace “at any cost”, adding that “we want the end of the war โ€“ not the end of Ukraine”.

He said that a Ukrainian withdrawal from the eastern Donbas region means “everything will be over”, a reference to Russia’s maximalist demand that Moscowย secure full control of the industrial areaย in any peace agreement.

Moscow currently controls about 75% of the Donetsk region, and some 99% of the neighbouring Luhansk. The two regions are known collectively as Donbas.

Its fate has been a major obstacle throughout negotiations, with Russia consistently unwilling to compromise on its aim to seize full control of Donbas.

In the address, Zelensky thanked leaders that have supported Ukraine, but said that “intentions must become security guarantees, and therefore – be ratified”.

Following talks between Zelensky and his US counterpart Donald Trump in Florida earlier this week, the Ukrainian leader said Washington had offeredย security guarantees for 15 yearsย – but a time frame for their implementation is not yet clear.

“Signatures under weak agreements only fuel war,” Zelensky said in his address. “Either the world stops Russia’s war, or Russia drags the world into its war.”

By comparison, Putin’s New Year address was much shorter.

Addressing the war in Ukraine, which Moscow describes as a “special military operation”, Putin said: “We strive to bring joy and warmth through our care for those in need of support and, of course, to stand by our heroes โ€“ the participants in the special military operation โ€“ in both word and deed.”

Separately, North Korean leader Kim Jong Un used his New Year message to praise the “invincible alliance” between Pyongyang and Moscow, while praising soldiers who are fighting in “alien lands”.

North Korea has sent thousands of troops to aid Russia in its invasion, along with missiles and long-range weapons, South Korean officials have said.

At least 600 of those soldiers have died, according to South Korean estimates.

Zelensky has expressed a desire for peace negotiations to resume and accelerate this month with the involvement of both US and European officials.

French President Emmanuel Macron said European states and allies who are due to meet in Paris on 6 January “will make concrete commitments to protect Ukraine and ensure a just and lasting peace on our European continent”.

On Wednesday, Trump’s advisers held talks with Zelensky and national security advisers from the UK, France and Germany about ending the war in Ukraine.

US special envoy Steve Witkoff said they discussed “strengthening security guarantees and developing effective deconfliction mechanisms to help end the war and ensure it does not restart”.

But any deal will ultimately need Russian buy-in, which does not seem forthcoming – and which the alleged drone incident over Putin’s residence may have pushed further into the distance.

Ghana cedi makes historic gains against the US dollar โ€“ Report

0

The Ghana cedi has, for the first time in 30yrs, appreciated by 41% against the dollar under Mahama The Ghana cedi has, for the first time in 30yrs, appreciated by 41% against the dollar under Mahama

Ghanaโ€™s local currency, the Ghana cedi (GHยข), has, for the first time in about three decades, made an annual gain against the United States dollar ($).

According to a report by Bloomberg, the Ghana cedi appreciated by 41% against the dollar for the year 2025, making it (the cedi) the best performer among 144 currencies tracked by Bloomberg after the Russian ruble.

The report indicated that the performance of the cedi against the dollar in 2025 has never been seen since Bloomberg began compiling the data in 1994.

โ€œGhanaโ€™s currency posted an annual gain against the dollar for the first time in more than three decades as Africaโ€™s biggest gold producer benefited from rising prices of the metal and the greenbackโ€™s weakness.

โ€œThe cedi has appreciated 41% against the dollar this year, the first time it has risen since at least 1994 when Bloomberg began compiling the data. That made it the best performer among 144 currencies tracked by Bloomberg after the Russian ruble. The Bloomberg Dollar Index is headed for its worst decline since 2017,โ€ part of the report reads.

The report indicated that the performance of the cedi is expected to continue in 2026, noting that one of the reasons for the appreciation of the cedi is the purchase of gold by the Bank of Ghana, which increased the countryโ€™s gross international reserves by 24% to $11.4 billion as of October 2025.

It added that the establishment of the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) to regulate the purchase of gold in the country played a key role in the cediโ€™s performance.

โ€œGhanaโ€™s central bank has been increasing purchases of bullion, helping lift gross international reserves by 24% to $11.4 billion as of October, from the start of the year. In May, the government established an institution known as GoldBod to buy the metal from small-scale mines, a move that has helped direct their output into the formal economy and curb smuggling.

โ€œโ€˜Improved official gold flows via the GoldBod and rising reservesโ€™ played a key role in supporting the currency,โ€ said Sam Singh-Jami, head of Africa research and strategy at Rand Merchant Bank, the report reads.

Kwame Adinkra reveals proposal to President Mahama over a new funeral for Daddy Lumba

0

The late highlife musician Daddy Lumb was laid to rest in December 2025 The late highlife musician Daddy Lumb was laid to rest in December 2025

Veteran broadcaster Kwame Adinkra has signaled plans to approach President John Dramani Mahama with a proposal concerning the funeral of late highlife musician Daddy Lumba, weeks after the musician was laid to rest.

Adinkra made the disclosure in a video sighted by Zionfelix.net while speaking at a public event. He explained that the proposal centres on organising a fresh funeral ceremony in honour of the legendary singer, whose real name was Charles Kwadwo Fosu.

According to him, the idea is rooted in the need for unity among Daddy Lumbaโ€™s family, particularly his wives. Adinkra said the proposed funeral would require the presence and participation of all the women recognised as the late musicianโ€™s spouses.

He observed that the issue has remained sensitive because of unresolved tensions that surrounded the original burial. Daddy Lumbaโ€™s first wife, Akosua Serwaa, along with some family members, did not attend the funeral held in Kumasi.

Before the burial took place, the family was entangled in a legal dispute over who qualified as the musicianโ€™s legitimate surviving wife. The matter was eventually settled in court, which ruled that both women were legally married to the highlife legend.

The funeral itself was almost stalled after a separate legal challenge, with the court ordering petitioners to pay GHยข2 million to Abusuapayin Kofi Owusu before proceedings could continue. When the amount was not paid, the court cleared the way for the funeral to take place on December 13.

Adinkraโ€™s proposal, he suggested, is intended to bring closure and restore harmony around the legacy of one of Ghanaโ€™s most celebrated musicians.

AFCON Round of 16: Senegal, DR Congo win big to advance

0

Senegal underlined their TotalEnergies CAF AFCON title credentials with a commanding 3-0 victory over Benin in their final Group D encounter, in an entertaining contest played in Tangiers on Tuesday evening.

The former African champions made a purposeful start and were rewarded in the 38th minute, when Abdoulaye Seckrose highest to power home a header from Krรฉpin Diattaโ€™s well-delivered set piece, giving Senegal a deserved lead at the interval.

Benin showed greater urgency after the restart, testing ร‰douard Mendy through efforts from Aiyegun Tosin and Junior Olaรฏtan, but Senegal remained well organised at the back and clinical in their attacking play.

Senegal doubled their advantage in the 62nd minute, with star forward Sadio Manรฉ turning provider, slipping a neat pass into the area for Habib Diallo, who made no mistake with a composed left-footed finish from close range.

The match took a dramatic turn in the 71st minute when captain Kalidou Koulibaly was shown a red card following a VAR review, forcing Senegal to see out the contest with ten men for the final quarter of an hour.

Benin pushed forward in search of a response and forced Mendy into a series of saves, but their hopes were extinguished deep into stoppage time.ย

In the 97th minute, substitute Cherif Ndiaye calmly converted from the penalty spot after Ibrahim Mbaye was brought down in the area, sealing a comprehensive scoreline.

The result sees Senegal finish top of Group D, while Benin, despite the defeat, progress to the Round of 16 as one of the best third-placed teams.

Group D concludes with Senegal at the top, followed by DR Congo who cruised past Botswana in a simultaneous match along with Benin as one of the best third place finishers.

Reactions

MOM Abdoulaye Seck

“I am delighted to have won the award but for me it was a collective team effort that led to this. We knew from the start that the match was not going to be easy because Benin came out to fight. But the effort of everyone ensured that we secured this victory despite playing with ten men later on in the game.”

Benin coach Gerrit Rohr:

ย “This was a very difficult match against a highly experienced team like Senegal. Even though they were down to ten men it was difficult to break through their defence because they were compact. We also wanted to avoid a situation where we could get some cards that would have ruled out some of our players in the knock out stage and this made us a bit cautious. These are some of the mistakes we will correct before we play in the knockout stage and we will fight to go as far as possible in the competition.”

Senegal coach Pape Thiaw:

“The players deserve all the praise for their performance in this difficult match that we played with ten men for some parts of the game. We faced a very determined Benin team but we managed to achieve our main objective of finishing top of the group. Our next objective is to correct the mistakes we made in our group stage match before we go into the Round of 16 because on that stage there will be no rooms for errors which will be published. We will use the next few days to address these problems.”

DR Congo 3-0 Botswana

Gael Kakuta delivered a masterclass performance, scoring twice and providing an assist as DR Congo secured second place in Group D of the TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), Morocco 2025 with a commanding 3โ€“0 victory over Botswana at Al Madina Stadium in Rabat.

The result confirms a mouth-watering Round of 16 showdown forย Les Leopardsย against Algeria, who finished top of Group E.

Kakuta was at the heart of everything good for DR Congo. His audacious backheel assist released Nathaniel Mbuku to break the deadlock, before the experienced playmaker calmly converted a penalty and later completed his brace to cap a dominant display.

Mbuku opened the scoring after 31 minutes, finishing off a flowing team move with a stretched effort inside the area after Kakutaโ€™s clever backheel had split the Botswana defense.

The goal was a deserved reward for DR Congoโ€™s positive start, having pressed high and attacked with intent from the opening exchanges.

Charles Pickel twice threatened from range, his first curling attempt drifting narrowly wide before his second sailed over the bar. Fiston Mayele also went close, flashing a header wide at the near post from a left-wing delivery, as the Leopards continued to apply pressure.

Their dominance was further rewarded just before the interval. A VAR review confirmed a handball by Thabo Leinanyane as he attempted to block a cross from Meschack Elia, and Kakuta stepped up to dispatch the resulting penalty with authority.

DR Congo comfortably went into the break with a deserved two-goal advantage.

After the restart, the Congolese side showed no signs of easing off. On the hour mark, Kakuta struck again to make it 3โ€“0, controlling Theo Bongondaโ€™s cross inside the box before calmly picking his spot to complete his brace.

Mayele thought he had added a fourth minutes later, but celebrations were cut short following another VAR intervention. The forward was adjudged to have handled the ball as he attempted to head home from close range.

Botswana, already eliminated after defeats in their opening two matches, struggled to mount any meaningful response. DR Congo, composed and disciplined, managed the closing stages with maturity to close out a comprehensive and well-executed victory.

REACTIONS

Gael Kakuta, man of the match:ย
โ€œAll glory be to God. I wasnโ€™t supposed to be in the starting 11, and here I am being named Man of the Match. I would like to highlight our collective strength. Today, we had many changes, but we stayed the course.โ€
Morena Ramoreboli, Botswana head coach:
โ€œWe are leaving the competition, but I really liked my playersโ€™ attitude today; they gave everything right until the end, repelling the Congolese attacks late on. They did not make it easy for the opponents and caused them problems.โ€

Morena Ramoreboli โ€“ Botswanaโ€™s Head Coach

โ€œWe are leaving the competition. I really liked the attitude of my players today; they gave their all until the end, countering the Congolese attacks at the finish. They didnโ€™t let themselves be pushed around and caused problems for the opponent.โ€

Tanzania 1-1 Tunisia
Goalscorers : F. Salum 47′ / I.Gharbi 43′

Tanzania reached the knockout stage for the first time in their history after holding Tunisia to a 1-1 draw at the Olympic Stadium in Rabat.

The Taifa Stars came from a goal down to equalize to advanceย

Tunisia enjoyed early control of possession but struggled to raise the tempo. After a series of attacks and threat at goal from Ismael Gharbi, including a cracking left foot curler that struck the post, theย Carthage Eaglesย were eventually rewarded in the 42nd minute.ย

Hazem Mastouri was fouled in the box by Bakari Mwamnyeto and following a lengthy VAR review, Tunisia was awarded a penalty. Gharbi stepped up to convert, giving Tunisia a deserved lead.ย

The North Africans went into the break 1โ€“0 ahead after a first half that was low on rhythm but comfortably managed.

After the restart, Tunisia opted to protect their advantage rather than push on. That cautious approach gradually invited Tanzania back into the game, with theย Taifa Starsย growing in confidence and intent.ย

The ambitious Tanzanians finally found their moment in the 54th minute. Feisal Salum curled a fine effort from the edge of the area, the bounce catching goalkeeper Aymen Dahmen off guard as the ball nestled into the net.

The closing stages lacked intensity, as both sides made multiple substitutions and appeared content with the outcome. Tanzania, aware that the point could place them among the best third-placed teams, managed the clock intelligently.ย

The 1โ€“1 draw officially secured Tunisiaโ€™s qualification to the Round of 16 on second place in the group, while Tanzania preserved a strong chance of progression as one of the best four third placed ranked teams.

Post-match reactions

Sami Trabelsi โ€“ Tunisia Coachย :ย โ€œThe most important thing was to secure qualification. We have not done well in this competition in recent years and that is why qualification is so important. We may not have played the best way possible, but we are very happy to have qualified. We will be playing against stronger opposition in our upcoming games and will really need to play better because the level of competition will be even higher and requires us to improveโ€ย

Miguel Gamondi โ€“ Tanzania Coach ย : โ€œI didnโ€™t have enough time to prepare the team, but we worked together with the management and federation and feel very proud. Not just for myself but for the country. I wanted to change this mentality of underdogs. To qualify is a great learning for Tanzania who must be proud. I hope this will be a reminder to these players and the next generation of players on the potential of Tanzanian footballโ€

Uganda 1-3 Nigeria

Goalscorers : P.Onuachu 28e, R. Onyedika 62e, 67e / R.Mato 75e

Nigeria confirmed their place at the top of Group C with an emphatic 3-1 victory over Uganda in their final group match played on Tuesday at the Complexe Sportif de Fรจs in Fรจs, officially ending Ugandaโ€™s campaign in the competition.

The Super Eagles entered the contest following two victories over Tanzania and Tunisia, while Uganda had an open chance but needed maximum points. ย

It was the 2023 edition runners-up, Nigeria who took the lead in the 28th minute when Paul Onuachu finished from close range, steering the ball into the bottom left corner after a precise assist from Fisayo Dele-Bashiru. The goal followed sustained Nigerian pressure and came shortly after Uganda goalkeeper Denis Onyango had produced a fine save to deny the same striker.

Uganda made multiple changes at the start of the second half, but their task became more difficult in the 56th minute when Salim Magoola was shown a red card for handball. Nigeria capitalised on their numerical advantage soon after.

In the 62nd minute, Raphael Onyedika doubled Nigeriaโ€™s lead with a composed right-footed finish from the right side of the box, assisted by Samuel Chukwueze. Just five minutes later, Onyedika struck again, this time finishing from the centre of the area to make it 3-0, once more following a Chukwueze assist.

Despite being reduced to ten men, Uganda continued to push forward and were rewarded in the 75th minute when Rogers Mato pulled one back, slotting home from the centre of the box after being played through by Allan Okello.

Nigeria responded by managing the closing stages professionally, making several substitutions to see out the match.

The result sees the Super Eagles finishing top of the group with three wins in as many games, while the Uganda Cranes see the campaign come to an end.ย

Post-match reactionsย

Raphael Onyedika – TotalEnergies Man of the Match :ย โ€œThank you everyone . I feel very happy and I canโ€™t really explain how I feel in this moment. These are moments Iโ€™ve been working towards all my life, and Iโ€™m happy that things are starting to come under control. Itโ€™s the same as for any other playerโ€”when youโ€™re not playing, you have to stay focused, keep working hard and wait for your opportunity. Itโ€™s about being ready when that opportunity comes, performing whenever the coach calls on you, because in the end itโ€™s the coach who decides who plays. It feels good, but itโ€™s also tough because of the standards and demands we set in training and in games. Eric Chelle expects a lot from the players and we push everyone. Itโ€™s amazing.โ€

Ghana cedi makes annual gain against the US dollar for the first time in over 30 years โ€“ Report

0

Ghanaโ€™s local currency, the Ghana cedi (GHยข), has, for the first time in about three decades, made an annual gain against the United States dollar ($).

According to a report by Bloomberg, the Ghana cedi appreciated by 41% against the dollar for the year 2025, making it (the cedi) the best performer among 144 currencies tracked by Bloomberg after the Russian ruble.

The report indicated that the performance of the cedi against the dollar in 2025 has never been seen since Bloomberg began compiling the data in 1994.

Fireworks, faith, and flashlight vigils usher in 2026 across Ghana

0

At the stroke of midnight, the Ghanaian sky ignited in a symphony of fireworks and prayer as millions of citizens transitioned into 2026.

From the coastal vibrations of James Town to the cool, breezy hills of Tamale, the ‘Crossover’ into the New Year was marked by a unique blend of high-octane celebration and sombre reflection.

While 2025 was a year of economic recalibration and intense digital growth, the dawn of 2026 felt notably differentโ€”characterised by a collective sense of resilience and an all-out return to massive public gatherings.

The Altar of the Nation: Stadiums and Sanctuaries

Religion remained the focal point of the transition.

In the capital, the Accra Sports Stadium became the epicentre of spiritual fervour. Tens of thousands of ‘Alpharians’ and members of various orthodox and charismatic denominations filled these venues to capacity.

The atmosphere was electric as pastors delivered ‘Watch Night’ messages focused on national prosperity and personal breakthroughs.

In a symbolic gesture seen in some churches, congregants turned off the main lights at 11:59 PM, ushering in the New Year with only their phone flashlightsโ€”a visual representation of carrying one’s own light into 2026.

Detty December Peaks: Osu and East Legon Erupt

For the youth and the diaspora community, the New Year was welcomed with the rhythmic pulse of Afrobeats and Highlife.

The ‘Beyond the Return’ and ‘December in GH’ initiatives saw a record influx of visitors this year, turning Osuโ€™s Oxford Street and the East Legon entertainment strip into 24-hour festival zones.

Nightclubs and open-air concerts featured A-list Ghanaian artists, while local bars and high-end restaurants reported record-breaking attendance.

“2025 taught us to be tough; 2026 is for us to thrive,” shouted a reveller at the Shornaa Island Amusement Park at Labadi. “We are not just crossing over; we are taking over!”

In contrast to the booming basslines of the capital, many in the Western and Northern Regions opted for a more traditional and communal welcome.

In Wa and Bolgatanga, families gathered for communal meals, while local chiefs led traditional libation ceremonies to seek the protection of the ancestors for the coming farming season.

Police reported a relatively peaceful transition, credit to ‘Operation Father Christmas’. The visibility of law enforcement officers was at an all-time high, with personnel stationed at major intersections.

Ivory Coast beat Gabon 3-2, face Burkina Faso in last-16

0

Ivory Coast is the defending AFCON champion. Ivory Coast is the defending AFCON champion.

Defending champions Ivory Coast came from two goals down to beat already eliminated Gabon 3-2 in Group F at the Africa Cup of Nations on Wednesday as teenager Bazoumana Toure’s headed winner in added time in Marrakech handed them top spot in the pool.

The Ivorians finished on seven points from their three games, ahead of Cameroon on goal difference after the latter beat third-placed Mozambique 2-1.

Gabon were eliminated after the second match day following successive defeats and were without injured talisman Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, but first-half goals from Guelor Kanga and Denis Bouanga gave them a 2-0 lead.

Coach Emerse Faeโ€™s side pulled a goal back through Jean-Philippe Krasso, then forced an equaliser via Evann Guessand with six minutes remaining before Toure sealed the win that sets up a Round of 16 clash with Burkina Faso in Marrakech next Tuesday.

It was a stunning late comeback from the Ivorians, who were outplayed in the first half, but their physicality and relentless pursuit of a way back into the game brought reward.

GABON RACE INTO LEAD

Gabon were ahead on 11 minutes when Kanga profited from a mistake from Ivorian goalkeeper Alban Lafont as the latter spilled a tame shot, allowing the forward to score from close range.

It was 2-0 after 21 minutes, and this time Lafont had no chance. Bouanga curled a superb shot from the left-hand side of the box across the goal and into the far corner.

Ivory Coast offered little going forward until past the half-hour mark when Oumar Diakite made a barnstorming run in the box and crashed his thunderous shot against the post.

The Ivorians did have a goal before halftime as Krasso tapped in from four yards out after 44 minutes when the ball was put on a plate by Wilfried Zahaโ€™s low cross from the left.

Gabon substitute Clench Loufilou should have restored his sideโ€™s two-goal advantage 10 minutes into the second period when he missed an open goal at the back post, skewing his shot wide.

Ivory Coast made him pay as Guessand headed in an equaliser on 84 minutes, having been left unmarked from a corner, and there was still time for the winner from 19-year-old Toure as he headed in from close range.

I sometimes spend GHโ‚ต50,000 a day โ€“ King Paluta reveals

0

King Paluta is an award-winning Ghanaian musician King Paluta is an award-winning Ghanaian musician

Award-winning Ghanaian musician, King Paluta, has stirred conversation after revealing that he sometimes spends as much as GHโ‚ต50,000 in a single day to support his music career.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with popular entertainment journalist Zionfelix, the rapper and singer disclosed that although he is based in Kumasi, his work frequently takes him to Accra and other parts of the country, significantly increasing his daily expenses.

According to King Paluta, his highest spending days are usually tied to intense work schedules, including music video shoots, studio sessions, hotel accommodation, transportation, and other logistics related to promoting his brand.

โ€œThere are days I spend more than GHโ‚ต50,000,โ€ he said, explaining that such amounts are common when he has packed schedules that involve travel, lodging, and production costs.

The musician emphasized that he sees these expenses as necessary investments rather than losses. He noted that putting money back into his craft is key to sustaining his success and staying relevant in the highly competitive music industry.

โ€œI invest heavily in my music because thatโ€™s what brings the money,โ€ King Paluta stated confidently.

In a bold remark, the artiste added that spending GHโ‚ต50,000 is no longer a big deal for him, describing the amount as โ€œregular money,โ€ a comment that has since sparked mixed reactions among fans and social media users.

While some have praised him for his hard work and financial discipline in reinvesting in his career, others have expressed surprise at the scale of spending involved in maintaining a successful music brand in Ghana.

King Palutaโ€™s comments offer a rare glimpse into the financial demands behind the scenes of a thriving music career, highlighting the cost of success in Ghanaโ€™s entertainment industry.

Burkina Faso beat Sudan to seal second in Group E at Cup of Nations

Burkina Faso booked second place in Group E at the Africa Cup of Nations with a 2-0 win over Sudan in Casablanca on Wednesday, with goals from Lassina Traore and Arsene Kouassi as their opponents squandered a penalty.

The Burkinabe finished on six points from three matches, three behind group winners Algeria, who advance with a perfect record. Sudan, meanwhile, progress as one of the four best third-placed teams.

Burkina Faso must wait for the completion of Group F later on Wednesday to learn their Round of 16 opponents: either defending champions Ivory Coast, Cameroon or Mozambique.

That knockout tie against the pool winner is set for Marrakech on Tuesday.

Sudan face a daunting test against 2021 champions Senegal in Tangier on Saturday.

Traore put Burkina Faso ahead after 16 minutes, rising to meet a looping cross from Stephane Aziz Ki and steering his header inside the far post.

Sudan squandered a golden chance to level when Burkinabe goalkeeper Herve Koffi felled Al-Gozoli Nooh in the box, only for Nooh to drag the resulting penalty wide.

That miss was compounded by further wasted opportunities, and Burkina Faso made sure of the points as Kouassi raced onto a pass from Dango Ouattara and slipped the ball past the goalkeeper from 15 yards.

Ho zongo community slams REGSEC over two-week mosque closure

0

A simmering leadership crisis within the Muslim community of the Volta regional capital has reached a boiling point following a directive from the Volta Regional Security Council (REGSEC) to shut down the Ho Central Mosque.

The closure for a duration of two weeks was ordered in consultation with the Ministry for the Interior.

However, the Ulema of the Ho Zongo Community has reacted with fierce opposition, characterising the move as an affront to the rights of a peaceful congregation.

The Ulema maintains that for decades, the Ho Central Mosque has been a beacon of tranquillity.

According to their statement, the current unrest was not a spontaneous community brawl but a calculated intrusion by an outside faction.

The community alleges that a groupโ€”backed by armed menโ€”forcefully breached the mosqueโ€™s perimeter.

Reports of gunshots fired within the sacred premises have particularly incensed the leadership, who argue that the sanctity of their place of worship was violated by criminal elements.

In a strongly-worded communiquรฉ signed by the Secretary of the Ho Zongo Community, Abdul-Razak Abubakar, the leadership questioned the logic behind punishing the entire worshipping body for the actions of a violent few.

The Ulema raised three critical concerns regarding the REGSEC directive:

  1. Security vs. Closure: Why authorities opted for a shutdown instead of stationing adequate security to protect peaceful worshippers.
  2. Lack of Accountability: The perceived failure of the police to arrest and prosecute the individuals who brought firearms into the mosque.
  3. Neutrality: Allegations of “selective actions” by regional authorities that appear to tilt the scales in favour of one faction rather than upholding the rule of law.

The Regional Security Council defended the two-week cooling-off period, citing the need to prevent potential bloodshed during the ongoing leadership dispute.

Such closures are often used as a “stop-gap” measure under the Public Order Act to de-escalate tensions in volatile religious or chieftaincy conflicts.

However, the Ho Zongo leadership remains unconvinced.

โ€œMuslims in Ho have worshipped peacefully at the mosque for many years without incident,โ€ the statement reminded the public, placing the blame squarely on the “armed group” that initiated the fracas.

The Ho Zongo Community is now looking beyond the regional administration for a resolution.

They have appealed to the National Peace Council, Civil Society Organisations (CSOs), and the media to scrutinise the handling of the dispute.

The statement concluded with a plea for transparency:

โ€œThe appropriate authorities, civil society organisations and the media [must] take a keen interest in the matter to ensure fairness and justice prevail.โ€

Kofane stunner earns Cameroon victory over Mozambique

0

Cameroon would now face off with South Africa in Rabat on Sunday. Cameroon would now face off with South Africa in Rabat on Sunday.

Teenage starlet Christian Kofane announced his arrival on the international stage with a stunning winner as Cameroon came from behind to beat Mozambique 2-1 on Wednesday and finish second in Group F at the Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.

The 19-year-old from Bayer Leverkusen was making only his second appearance for the Indomitable Lions, having turned down call-ups earlier this season to concentrate on his first Bundesliga season where he has already been making an impact.

Cameroon allowed him to stay at Leverkusen until the eve of the tournament in Morocco, with his first caps much anticipated. After squandering several half-chances early on in Wednesdayโ€™s clash, Kofane thrashed home a rocket-like effort from the edge of the area in the 55th minute to win the game.

Mozambique led after Sporting Lisbon striker Geny Catamo shot them ahead in the 23rd minute with a powerful low strike from outside the penalty area.

BIZARRE OWN GOAL

But the surprise advantage lasted only five minutes before a bizarre own goal tied matters at the Grand Stade dโ€™Agadir.

It came when Cameroon striker Frank Magriโ€™s shot was deflected by fullback Nene onto the post. The Mozambican defender had fallen to the ground in the process and as the ball rebounded back at him, he tried to sweep it away from danger but only succeeded in putting it into his own net.

Five-time Cup of Nations winners Cameroon finished with six points but lost out on top place in the group to holders Ivory Coast on goals scored.

The Ivorians came from behind to beat Gabon 3-2 and take top place and a meeting with Burkina Faso in Marrakech on Tuesday.

Cameroon now meet South Africa in Rabat on Sunday.

Mozambique, who went through to the last-16 as one of the best four third-placed finishers, will be up against Nigeria in Fes on Monday in their first appearance in the knockout stages of the tournament.

Wednesdayโ€™s action completed the first round with the knockout stage to begin at the weekend.

Bawumia will snatch NPP primaries from โ€˜Mr Tesiteโ€™ โ€“ Nigel Gaisie prophecies

Prophet Nigel Gaisie (L) says Dr Bawumia will win NPP presidential primaries but... Prophet Nigel Gaisie (L) says Dr Bawumia will win NPP presidential primaries but…

The founder and leader of the Prophetic Hill Church, Prophet Nigel Gaisie, has prophesied that former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia will win the upcoming presidential primaries of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP).

Delivering his prophecies at his churchโ€™s December 31, 2025, Watch Night Service, the prophet asserted that Dr Bawumia, who was the flagbearer of the NPP in the 2024 presidential election, will snatch the victory from another contender in the race he called โ€œMr Tesiteโ€.

Nigel indicated that there is likely to be a lot of legal battles after the primaries, saying, โ€œIf they don’t take care, the election will end in court. And I saw security problems.โ€

LIVESTREAMED: 2025 31st Night Prophecies with Prophet Nigel Gaisie

He indicated that the lamentations and pleadings which switched the win in favour of Dr Bawumia were prayers from men of God.

โ€œI repeat the NPP primary, which will be on January 31; they have 30 days more to go. I saw Mr Tesite going as though he has won. And I saw pleadings. I saw men of God praying. I saw speaking. I saw that it was switched, and I saw Doctor Bawumia.

He added, โ€œBut Dr Bawumia, there is a lot of work to do, but I have spoken as a Prophet; may the will of the Lord be done.โ€

Several Ghana Premier League sides underlined their quality on Tuesday as Berekum Chelsea, FC Samartex 1996, Dreams FC, Nations FC and Aduana FC booked their places in the Round of 16 of the Ghana FA Cup with commanding performances across the country.

The most emphatic result came in Sameraboi, where FC Samartex 1996 produced a ruthless display to overwhelm Debiso Soccer Lions 9-1 at the Nsekyire Sports Arena. The Timber Giants wasted no time asserting control, racing into a three-goal lead inside the opening 14 minutes.

Osman Zakaria set the tone early and later completed a brace, while Benedict Afful also struck twice after the interval. Godwin Sefah, Ronald Grippman, Felix Koduah Jnr and Solomon Agyei added their names to the scoresheet as Samartex reached the break with a commanding 5-0 advantage and never looked back.

Nations FC were equally efficient at the Dr. Kwame Kyei Sports Complex, scoring three times in the opening 19 minutes to secure a 3-0 victory over FC AshantiGold โ€™04. Brandon Antwi opened the scoring before Emmanuel Annor netted twice in quick succession to seal progression before half-time.

Former champions Dreams FC maintained their steady cup form with a 2-0 win over Asanka FC. Goals from Aminu Adams and Abdul Razak Salifu ensured the รขย€ย˜Still Believeโ€™ side advanced, continuing their positive run after edging Semper FI in the previous round.

At the Berekum Golden City Park, Aduana FC recorded a controlled 2-0 win against Berekum Arsenal, with Richard Yeboah and Ben Dauda Sidibe scoring in either half.

Earlier in the day, Attram De Visser edged Port City 4-2 on penalties after a goalless draw, keeping alive their hopes of another deep FA Cup run.

Two dead, two in custody over fatal family land feud

0

A long-standing family dispute over a piece of land took a horrific turn on Tuesday, December 30, 2025, leaving two people dead and two others in police custody.

The Upper West Regional Police Command has launched a full-scale investigation into the violent clash, which has left the local community in a state of shock as they usher in the New Year.

Confirming the casualties in an official briefing, the Regional Police Commander, DCOP Francis Yiribaare, expressed deep regret over the loss of life, describing the escalation of the family feud as a preventable tragedy.

The violence erupted in the late afternoon of Tuesday when members of the same family, reportedly divided over the ownership of a specific plot of land, transitioned from verbal arguments to a physical confrontation.

โ€œThis is a very unfortunate situation here. We all have the information that just in the latter part of the day yesterday, there was a clash of the family over a piece of land,โ€ DCOP Yiribaare stated.

Upon receiving distress calls, the police command activated its Quick Response Team (QRT).

However, the speed of the violence outpaced the arrival of the authorities. By the time the QRT reached the scene, the disputed land had become a crime scene.

โ€œOn arrival, we discovered that the clash had gone too far, resulting in the death of one person right on the spot,โ€ the Regional Commander revealed.

A second victim was discovered alive but unconscious amidst the chaos. Despite the efforts of the police to provide a rapid medical evacuation, the injuries proved too severe.

โ€œOne that we met at the scene was also unconscious and was immediately rushed to the hospital, but unfortunately, he also passed,โ€ DCOP Yiribaare added, bringing the total death toll to two.

Forensic teams and investigators spent the night and the early hours of the next morning combing the area for evidence.

The Commander noted that the investigation has been aided by the willingness of local residents to provide information.

โ€œThe general public has been very cooperative since we started. We have processed the crime scene, and the management team covered and processed every particle that mattered in the issue,โ€ he said.

Two suspects have been secured by the police so far:

  1. Suspect One: Currently on admission at a regional health facility, receiving treatment for injuries sustained during the clash while under heavy police guard.
  2. Suspect Two: Apprehended in a dawn raid and currently held in a police detention facility.

โ€œSo far, one person is on admission but under police guard as a suspect, under arrest. We have one other individual who was also arrested in the latter part of the dawn of this morning and is also in detention,โ€ the Commander confirmed.

A major road passing through the vicinity of the clash was temporarily cordoned off to preserve the integrity of the crime scene and prevent further reprisal attacks.

DCOP Yiribaare assured the public that traffic would be restored shortly.

โ€œWe are still processing a few issues and once that is done, we should be able to open it up,โ€ he assured.

Beyond the immediate legal action, the Commander used the tragedy as a stark reminder of the dangers of bypassing lawful dispute resolution mechanisms.

He urged families to use the Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) systems or the traditional councils rather than resorting to “jungle justice”.

โ€œI want to encourage the family to continue to resort to the police for every other issue surrounding this land or to the locals for a very peaceful resolution of the matter,โ€ he advised. โ€œIn matters like this, we should try to use peaceful means rather than violence. In so doing, we continue to preserve the peace and stability of the region and also create a safer community for development and social activities to go on.โ€

The police have vowed that the perpetrators of the violence will face the full rigours of the law.

โ€œWe are leaving no stone unturned in getting to the bottom of it and ensuring that justice takes its own course,โ€ DCOP Yiribaare concluded.

Arsenal reportedly circling for Kenan Yildiz

Italian media have reported that the Gunners are heavily interested in Juventus star Kenan Yildiz. The 20-year-old Turkish international is one of the most exciting young attacking players in Europe but is reported to be stalling over a contract extension in Turin, leading to many continental heavyweights such as Chelsea, Manchester United and Real Madrid to circle.

The likes of Bayern Munich superstar Michael Olise, AC Milan winger Rafael Leao and wantaway Borussia Dortmund forward Karim Adeyemi – who Bild report wants to move to a metropolis to appease his girlfriend – have also appeared in Arsenal gossip columns, though nothing concrete has emerged surrounding these rumours as of yet.

Arsenal could look to strengthen back line

Defensive quartet Jurrien Timber, Riccardo Calafiori, Ben White and Cristhian Mosquera were all unavailable for Arsenal’s nervy win over Brighton on Saturday, and Arteta could therefore look to reinforce his back line, with Sky Sports adding that AC Milanโ€™s 20-year-old left-back Davide Bartesaghi has been scouted, a player that has been compared to Paolo Maldini.

Arsenal are constantly looking at the European market for young players with a high ceiling so would be more likely to acquire players that fall under that category. The Gunners also have a โ€œconcrete interestโ€ in highly-rated Eintracht Frankfurt forward Jean-Matteo Bahoya, according to Florian Plettenberg, while also sending scouts to watch Elche midfielder Rodrigo Mendoza.

Arsenal transfer news round-up: Mikel Arteta braces for busy January

Mounting injuries may force Arsenal to dip into the January transfer market as they look to keep up the pace in their Premier League title charge.

The Gunners go into the new year at the top of the pile but will know all too well that such a position does not guarantee success come May, with Pep Guardiolaโ€™s revitalised Manchester City breathing down their necks.

And with injuries not letting up, with Jurrien Timber and Riccardo Calafiori the latest to be sidelined, new recruits could come to boost the league leaders ahead of a crucial second half of the season.

When asked if Arteta has space in his squad for new signings, he said: “Depending, as I said, on the availability of certain players. The window is there. We’re Arsenal. Now, we have to be looking at it.โ€

West Ham need to strengthen ‘the sooner the better’, says Nuno

Relegation-threatened West Ham will look to strengthen in January, with manager Nuno Espirito Santo saying he has a โ€œclear ideaโ€ of what the club needs – and โ€œthe sooner the betterโ€.

Youngsters Oliver Scarles and Freddie Potts featured on Sunday against Brighton, with untried 18-year-old Ezra Mayers and Mohamadou Kante, 20, coming on as substitutes.

โ€œI am pleased for the young players, because they’re helping,โ€ Nuno said.

โ€œBut it’s also clear that, in terms of squad, we need to rebalance our squad. We need to make the right moves in a very difficult transfer window to operate.

โ€œBut we need to, so we can improve and have more options for the second half of the season.

โ€œI have a clear idea about everything. I have a clear idea, because this is our job. It’s up to us to pass information to the club, so the club is aware of what we need.

โ€œIt’s coming in a couple of days. The reflection is clear, so the sooner the better.โ€

Harvey Elliott’s future in limbo

Another Liverpool player is unlikely to have his future resolved.

Harvey Elliott, currently struggling for game time on loan at Aston Villa, is unlikely to return to Anfield after Slotโ€™s concise summary of the Redsโ€™s stance.

โ€œNo, Harvey is an Aston Villa player and he is supposed to be going there for a season. So, questions about him, the best thing to ask is Aston Villa – they are doing really well, by the way.โ€

Liverpool in the hunt for another striker?

Brentford forward Igor Thiago, after his blazing start to the season with the Bees with 11 goals in 17 Premier League games, and PSGโ€™s Bradley Barcola are names that have floated around recent gossip columns, though neither move has accelerated or gathered pace just yet.

Isakโ€™s injury has also prompted reports of interest in various strikers, with PSGโ€™s Goncalo Ramos, Juventusโ€™ Dusan Vlahovic and England international Ivan Toney named as potential short-term solutions, but nothing concrete has been established.

Liverpool trio face uncertain futures

Mohamed Salahโ€™s future will need to be settled, though the Egypt star will complete his time at the Afcon 2025 with the Pharaohs before returning to Anfield next month.

Ibrahima Konate and Andy Robertson will similarly go into the January window amid uncertainty, with both entering the final six months of their current contracts.

Liverpool remain committed to extending Konateโ€™s deal but will not budge from their existing wage structure, according to Sky Sports.

Arne Slot happy to stick with what he’s got

Arne Slot does not seem in a rush to jump back into the transfer market amid long-term injuries to the likes of Alexander Isak and Giovanni Leoni.

โ€œIf you bring in a lot of new players and a lot of players leave usually โ€“ at least if I do my job well โ€“ they will play better football the longer they are here and when they have more training time and playing time,โ€ Slot said.

โ€œIf you add players to what you have, there is a serious chance of improving. If you replace, like we have done, then it takes time and usually it gets better after a certain period of time.โ€

Cassava from reclaimed mine lands unsafe โ€“ Study reveals

Cassava is common in Ghana Cassava is common in Ghana

A study by researchers at Koforidua Technical University and the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) has uncovered high levels of cyanide and lead in cassava produced from reclaimed gold mining lands in Pameng and Gyadam in the Eastern Region.

Illegal mining activities, locally known as galamsey, have become a major threat to environmental safety, leading to water pollution and leaving dangerous metals in rivers.

During the research, standard laboratory methods were used. The team compared cassava from reclaimed mining sites with those from non-mining fields, testing for moisture, fat, protein, heavy metals, and cyanide.

Illegal Mining: Ghana requires billions to reclaim, restore degraded lands – EPA

Their findings revealed that while nutrient levels such as fat and protein were high, the cassava was also contaminated with disturbing levels of cyanide.

It was further disclosed that such contamination could cause dangerous diseases, including cancer, anaemia, paralysis, and mental health issues, posing serious risks to humans.

โ€œWe cut open the cassava, dried it, and began the laboratory analysis. The toxic heavy metals are dense and difficult to remove or wash away. After consumption, consumers have a tendency to undergo oxidation; radicals that can cause cancers, paralysis-linked neurological diseases, and dysfunction.

โ€œInfants may suffer from anaemia, constipation, and fatigue, as well as mental issues and dysfunction of the respiratory system,โ€ researcher Dr Gyau Akyereko said, as reported by myjoyonline.com.

In efforts to combat illegal mining, the government has set up a task force to deal with miners and introduced strategies to reclaim mine lands for safe use.

โ€˜Prophetโ€™ Ebo Noah arrested

Ebo Noah claimed that the world will end on December 25 Ebo Noah claimed that the world will end on December 25

The Ghana Police Service has reportedly arrested self-acclaimed prophet Evans Eshun, who gained public attention after claiming to have received a divine vision predicting a global flood on December 25, 2025.

According to multiple reports, Prophet Ebo Noah, who is popularly known as Ebo Noah, was picked up by the GPS Special Cyber Vetting Team on December 31, 2025.

A photo of the arrest, which has gone viral, shows Ebo Noah in handcuffs at what looks like a police facility.

The self-proclaimed Ghanaian prophet made headlines, especially on social media, for constructing a modern-day Noahโ€™s ark.

Explaining his motive for building the ark, Ebo Noah claimed that God had warned him that the world would end on December 25, 2025, coinciding with Christmas Day.

In describing his vision, he stated that God would bring about great destruction, with heavy rains and floods devastating the earth.

He further explained that he had been instructed by God to build the ark to rescue souls who wished to be saved, just as described in the biblical story of Noah and the flood.

In many of his clips, Ebo is seen showing off the boats or building materials, claiming that he has built ten arks.

Who is Ebo Noah and why is he building an ark like the biblical Noah?

In a video titled โ€œWhat Will Happen and How It Will Happen,โ€ posted on YouTube in August, Ebo claimed to have received a divine vision from God, who said it would rain for three years beginning on December 25.

He planned to live on the ark for three years during this predicted mass flooding.

Eboโ€™s construction of the ark has generated both local and global attention, with his videos garnering millions of views and engagements on social media.

It, however, turned out that the supposed ark, which were actually boats, did not belong to him, and on December 25, 2025, there was no flood.

Anthony Joshua discharged from hospital in Nigeria after car crash | Anthony Joshua

0

The British boxer Anthony Joshua has been discharged from hospital, Nigerian authorities said on Wednesday night. The two-time former heavyweight champion and Olympic gold medalist was involved in a car accident near Lagos on Monday which killed two of his close associates and team members.

The 36-year-old had been under observation while recovering from minor injuries, his promoter had said on Monday.

The Lagos state commissioner for information and strategy, Gbenga Omotoso, said in a statement on X that Joshua had been discharged from the Duchess international hospital in Ikeja on Wednesday afternoon as he was deemed clinically fit to โ€œrecuperate at homeโ€.

โ€œAnthony and his mother were at the funeral home in Lagos this afternoon to pay their final respects to his two departed friends as they were being prepared for repatriation scheduled for later this evening,โ€ Omotoso said.

Latif Ayodele, a personal trainer for Joshua, and Sina Ghami, a strength and conditioning coach, died in the crash on 29 December. Omotoso said that the boxer was โ€œheavy-hearted and full of emotions over the loss of his two close friendsโ€. Just hours before the crash, Joshua and Ayodele posted clips on social media of them playing table tennis together.

The crash has elicited growing concerns about road safety in Nigeria, where accidents are common. The west African nation recorded 5,421 deaths in 9,570 road accidents in 2024, according to data by the countryโ€™s federal road safety corps. Its data showed 340 more people were killed in road accidents last year compared to 2023.
