Ghana’s credit rating upgraded to ‘CCC+’ amid gold reforms and debt restructuring
Ghana’s creditworthiness has been boosted following a decision by SP Global Ratings to upgrade the country’s foreign currency rating from ‘SD’ (Selective Default to ‘CCC+’.
This follows sustained progress in debt restructuring and macroeconomic management, with key indicators such as gold export earnings and foreign exchange reserves showing notable improvement.
The upgrade, detailed in S&P’s May 9, 2025, assessment, comes on the back of the successful completion of Ghana’s domestic debt exchange program and ongoing negotiations with external creditors.
S&P also affirmed the ‘CCC+’ ratings on Ghana’s debt and maintained a stable outlook on both foreign and local currency ratings.
The development reflects growing investor confidence, strengthened by government initiatives like the establishment of the Ghana Gold Board.
The Board, aimed at streamlining the gold value chain, is already playing a critical role in formalising the sector and boosting export revenues.
The improved external liquidity position, supported by a surge in gold exports and a recovering cedi, is helping Ghana meet its short-term obligations more comfortably.
The cedi, which had crossed GH¢17 to the dollar in 2023, is now trading around GH¢14, helping curb import-driven inflation, now at 21.2%—the lowest in eight months.
This progress also follows Ghana’s October 2024 Eurobond exchange and the memorandum of understanding ratified with bilateral creditors in January 2025, seen as a cornerstone of its broader economic recovery. The gains have been linked by some to the policy groundwork laid during the tenure of former President John Dramani Mahama.
Despite the positive outlook, S&P cautions that downside risks remain. Should Ghana’s fiscal performance weaken, or financing conditions tighten, the country’s ability to service its debt could be jeopardised, placing renewed pressure on its fiscal and external stability.
According to a report by citinewsroom.com, the Finance minister Dr Cassiel Ato Forson has, however, downplayed fears of reversal, insisting that the recovery is rooted in “prudent and well-coordinated economic policies.”
He emphasised that the current gains are not fleeting but a testament to deliberate efforts to restore confidence and build a resilient macroeconomic foundation.
The government continues to implement fiscal reforms to tackle structural challenges, signaling its commitment to long-term economic stability and sustainable growth.

The Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC) and Ghana Gas have confirmed a temporary disruption in gas exports from the Jubilee Floating Production Storage and Offloading (FPSO) vessel, known as the Kwame Nkrumah FPSO, to the Atuabo Gas Processing Plant (GPP) following a technical fault.
According to a joint statement issued on Sunday, May 11, 2025, the incident occurred at approximately 4:30 PM on May 10. The malfunction, described as a “technical issue,” resulted in a system trip that momentarily halted gas transmission to the Atuabo GPP.
The operators of the FPSO are currently working closely with technical teams to identify the root cause of the failure. They are also putting in place corrective measures to restore gas supply to the plant as safely and quickly as possible.
Despite the disruption in gas transmission, GNPC and Ghana Gas assured the public that oil production on the Jubilee FPSO remains stable and unaffected by the incident.
“We wish to assure the public that the oil production system on the FPSO remains unaffected and continues to operate steadily,” the statement emphasized.
The corporations extended their appreciation to stakeholders and the general public for their continued support and understanding as efforts are made to resolve the issue.
The World Bank has commended Ghana for the remarkable progress achieved under the Gulf of Guinea Northern Regions Social Cohesion (SOCO) Project, describing its performance as exceeding expectations and delivering beyond initial targets.
This remark was made by the World Bank’s Global Director for Social Development, Robin Mearns, who led a high-level World Bank delegation to tour SOCO project sites and engaged with stakeholders to assess midterm progress, strengthen collaboration, and explore opportunities for potential scaling up the initiative.
“The SOCO Project is not only meeting but exceeding its targets. It is bringing tremendous economic prosperity to regions that have not seen much investment in the past. The scale and inclusiveness of the project are impressive, and I strongly encourage additional funding to extend its reach to the remaining vulnerable districts”, Mr. Mearns said.
During the field visit, the delegation inspected community-level interventions in Jinlo along the Salaga corridor, including a CHPS compound and guinea fowl rearing project. Mr. Mearns recounted the story of Fatima, a local farmer whose guinea fowl stock grew from 30 to over 100 birds with SOCO support. “Fatima’s story is just one example of how SOCO is boosting local livelihoods and building resilience,” he said.
The team also engaged with other income-generating groups such as the Shishegu Soap Makers and toured a newly built livestock market. These initiatives fall under SOCO’s Local Economic Development (LED) component, which is central to the project’s mission of sustainable community empowerment.
The Northern Regional Minister, Mr. Ali Adolf John, described the project as a game changer in addressing both infrastructure gaps and social vulnerability in the six Northern regions. He noted that SOCO’s integrated approach is helping to shape peaceful and thriving communities across the regions.
SOCO Project Coordinator, Ms. Elizabeth Ohenewah Agyei, revealed that the first cycle of the project had delivered 530 community infrastructure subprojects, with 489 completed and handed over as of February 2025. These include 33 roads and culverts, 59 educational facilities, 66 health centres, 210 water facilities, and 73 rural markets. She also noted that over 6,200 jobs—many for women, youth, and persons with disabilities—had been created, and 744 livelihood groups with more than 24,000 members had received support to boost local productivity.
Ms. Agyei added that a second cycle is underway, targeting the delivery of 680 additional subprojects across the 48 districts. “The SOCO Project is not just about bricks and blocks. It’s about building community ownership and participation,” she said. “We aim to strengthen the social fabric through inclusive leadership and shared responsibility, which are the true essence of social cohesion.”
The delegation also participated in the inauguration of the Tamale Metropolitan Youth Parliament, a civic engagement initiative under SOCO that promotes youth involvement in governance and peacebuilding. Mr. Nicolas Perrin, World Bank’s Practice Manager for Social Sustainability and Inclusion in West Africa, described the platform as a model worth replicating. “This Youth Parliament exemplifies civic inclusion and leadership development,” he said.
The SOCO Project is funded by the World Bank and implemented by the Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs. It operates 48 selected districts across Ghana’s six northern regions with a focus on building inclusive, peaceful, and economically empowered communities along the northern border zones.

Ghana forward Jerry Afriyie has rejoined the Black Satellites camp in Egypt ahead of the team’s highly anticipated quarter-final clash against hosts Egypt at the ongoing TotalEnergies U-20 Africa Cup of Nations Egypt 2025.
Afriyie had temporarily departed the Ghana camp on Tuesday to honour club duties with his Spanish side, CD Lujo, in a scheduled league fixture—an arrangement agreed upon between the Ghana Football Association and the club prior to the start of the tournament. Following his appearance for CD Lujo, the young striker has now returned and is available for selection in what is arguably Ghana’s most important match yet.
The 19-year-old attacker featured in two of Ghana’s group stage matches—making a substitute appearance in the opening fixture and playing the full 90 minutes in the hard-fought second game against Senegal. His energy, movement, and attacking instinct have been valuable assets to Coach Desmond Ofei’s side.
The team has expressed gratitude to CD Lujo for their cooperation in releasing the player in time for the decisive quarter-final, scheduled for Monday, May 12, at 18:00 local time (15:00 GMT) at the new Suez Stadium. The stakes are high: a win not only secures a spot in the semi-finals of the tournament but also guarantees qualification to the 2025 FIFA U-20 World Cup in Chile.
Coach Desmond Ofei welcomed Afriyie’s return warmly, saying, “Jerry is a key part of our attacking setup. We understand the importance of his club commitments, and we’re thankful to CD Lujo for their understanding and collaboration. His return gives us a boost at just the right time.”
Afriyie himself has expressed excitement to be back with his teammates and is focused on helping Ghana reach the next stage. “It feels good to be back. The job isn’t done, and we all know what this next game means to us, to our fans, and to our country.”
All eyes will be on the Black Satellites on Monday as they seek to extend their run and secure a place on the world stage once again.
Nigeria’s Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Ekpo Ekperipe, stated that he discussed the outstanding $75m gas debt with Ghana’s President, John Dramani Mahama, during the meeting.
The minister emphasized the need to engage relevant agencies in Ghana to settle the debt owed to Nigeria for gas supplied under the West African Gas Pipeline (WAGP) agreement.
Ghana’s outstanding debt currently stands at $75 million for gas supplied several months ago, with uncleared documentation hindering payment. Ekpo stressed the urgency of resolving the issue to safeguard energy cooperation and regional harmony, as outlined in the Treaty.
Nigeria supplies gas to Ghana through the West African Gas Pipeline (WAGP), a 678-kilometer regional infrastructure project designed to transport natural gas from Nigeria’s Niger Delta to Benin, Togo, and Ghana.
The WAGP is operated by the West African Gas Pipeline Company Limited (WAPCo), a consortium that includes Chevron, the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), Shell, and national gas companies from Ghana, Togo, and Benin.
Gas is primarily used by power plants in Ghana to generate electricity.
Over the years, Ghana has occasionally fallen into arrears due to financial challenges in its energy sector, prompting Nigeria to demand payment to avoid supply disruptions.
The recent $75 million arrears dispute is part of this ongoing supply and payment relationship.
The Nigerian Petroleum Minister also solicited Ghana’s support for the African Atlantic Gas Pipeline Project, a strategic project aimed at deepening regional ties in areas of energy security and economic cooperation.
“We are committed to sustaining continued collaboration with Ghana in the gas sector,” he stated, reaffirming Nigeria’s readiness to resolve all outstanding matters related to gas supply under the WAGP agreement.
President Mahama, in his response, expressed appreciation for the minister’s comments and shared concerns, reiterating Ghana’s commitment to fulfilling its financial obligations to the West African Gas Pipeline project and promoting regional stability and prosperity.
Notably, in February, the Ghanaian government announced plans to negotiate with Nigeria’s N-Gas Limited to settle a $37.5 million payment, part of the outstanding debt for gas supplied to Ghana’s power plants.
However, the Managing Director of N-Gas has not confirmed or denied whether the payment was made.

Speaking during his confirmation ceremony, Agboh assured residents of a revitalised local government system anchored on accountability and innovation.
The event, brought together several dignitaries including the Greater Accra Regional Minister, Members of Parliament for Shai Osudoku and Dome-Kwabenya, traditional authorities, and party executives.
In a metrotvonline.com report, Agboh expressed deep appreciation to His Excellency John Dramani Mahama and the leadership of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) for entrusting him with the responsibility.
“Our journey ahead demands unity, accountability, and innovation. Together, we will revitalise local governance in line with the RESET agenda of our great party. There is the need for all stakeholders to work collaboratively in addressing the pressing development challenges within the municipality”, he stated.
Agboh acknowledged the persistent problem of inadequate funding and delays in the disbursement of the District Assemblies Common Fund (DACF). To mitigate this, he announced plans to strengthen internally generated funds (IGF) through a more convenient and equitable revenue collection system designed to reduce leakages and improve efficiency.
On infrastructure, the MCE highlighted the rehabilitation of critical roads such as the Narhman-Musuku and Pure Water roads as a priority.
He added that the assembly will deploy its own machinery under the District Roads Improvement Project (DRIP), with newly appointed technical staff overseeing operations to ensure timely execution of works.
Addressing issues of market infrastructure and sanitation, Agboh revealed plans to modernize markets and lorry parks without displacing traders.
He also pledged to tackle water scarcity and poor sanitation by strictly enforcing National Sanitation Day activities and partnering with relevant agencies to improve public health outcomes.
On the issue of land protection, Agboh said his administration will collaborate with security agencies to clamp down on the illegal acquisition of state lands.
He reaffirmed his commitment to working closely with Members of Parliament, traditional leaders, religious organizations, and civil society groups to build a united front for sustainable development in Ga East.

An aerial view of the floodwater after a heavy downpour in Mogadishu, Somalia
At least seven people have died, and main roads were cut off after heavy rains led to flooding in Somalia’s capital, Mogadishu.
The regional administration spokesperson, Abdinasir Hirsi Idle, said on Saturday that rescue efforts were continuing.
“The death toll could rise because the rains were heavy and lasted for several hours, causing nine houses to collapse across different neighbourhoods, and at least six major roads to suffer severe damage,” he said.
Somalia has in the past suffered extreme climate shocks, including prolonged dry seasons that have caused droughts and heavy rains resulting in floods.
Friday’s rains went on for about eight hours, leaving waist-high waters in neighbourhoods where some residents were trapped and others were forced to move to higher ground.
A resident, Mohamed Hassan, told The Associated Press news agency that some older people were still trapped.
“We spent the night on rooftops, shivering from the cold, and I haven’t even had breakfast,” he said.
Floodwaters also damaged key infrastructure, halting public transport and temporarily disrupting operations at the main Aden Abdulle airport. Officials later confirmed flights had resumed.
The Somalia Disaster Management Agency has not yet released an official death toll, but it said the assessment was underway to determine the extent of the damage.
The country’s Ministry of Energy and Water Resources said in a statement on Saturday that “a substantial amount of rainfall, exceeding 115mm, was recorded in over 8 consecutive hours” and warned of flash floods in other regions outside the capital.
Influencer Gyamfiwaa, known for her unapologetic and daring style, has once again sparked a conversation about fashion boundaries. At the 26th edition of the prestigious TGMA (The Ghana Music Awards), she wore a daring outfit that left many questioning how far one can go with fashion before it crosses the line. The dress in question, a bold and revealing choice, put her bosom on full display, causing quite a stir among attendees and fans alike.
The outfit, designed with a plunging neckline, was undeniably eye-catching, but it was her near wardrobe malfunction that had the internet buzzing. Gyamfiwaa, with her confident stride, almost suffered a slip that would have left little to the imagination. While some lauded her confidence and ability to pull off such a daring look, others criticized her choice, claiming it was too provocative for the event.
One onlooker couldn’t help but comment, “Eeei, she should have gone raw for us to know she is not wearing anything.” This remark, while hyperbolic, reflects a growing divide between those who embrace bold fashion statements and those who believe certain outfits push the boundaries of taste. Was Gyamfiwaa’s outfit an empowering display of confidence, or did it cross into the territory of seeking attention for the wrong reasons.
Fashion, at its core, is about expression. It allows individuals to make personal statements and break away from societal norms. But when it comes to public figures like Gyamfiwaa, the question arises: how much exposure is too much? In a culture where both body positivity and modesty are fiercely debated, every outfit choice seems to be scrutinized through a different lens.
For some, the very idea of wearing such a revealing dress at a formal event like the TGMA was seen as empowering. Gyamfiwaa is known for her fearless approach to fashion, often wearing what others might deem inappropriate or controversial. Her look at the TGMA was a testament to her boldness and self-confidence—a celebration of owning one’s body and daring to defy expectations.
However, critics argue that there’s a time and place for everything. Some believed her outfit was inappropriate for a music awards show, suggesting that a more modest approach would have been more fitting. The fact that the dress put her bosom on display and nearly resulted in a wardrobe malfunction only heightened the tension around the outfit. Was she being careless, or did she intentionally choose a dress that would push the boundaries of what is considered acceptable at such events.
The debate surrounding Gyamfiwaa’s outfit also raises another important question: is fashion about self-expression, or is it about seeking attention? Influencers, by nature, thrive on visibility and engagement, but does the level of exposure seen at such events cross a line between genuine fashion expression and sensationalism?
For Gyamfiwaa, perhaps the intention was simply to be bold and make a statement. After all, it’s hard to ignore the fact that her outfit definitely caught the attention of both her admirers and critics. In the world of influencer culture, attention is often the currency that drives success, and it’s clear that Gyamfiwaa’s daring fashion choice got people talking—whether for better or worse.
While Gyamfiwaa’s outfit certainly raised eyebrows, it’s important to take a step back and look at the larger conversation it sparks about body image, freedom of expression, and societal expectations. The fact that her outfit became the subject of so much discussion reflects how the fashion choices of influencers are under constant scrutiny.
Ultimately, Gyamfiwaa’s bold fashion statement at the 26th TGMA is a reminder that fashion will always be a controversial space. What one person sees as a confident, empowering choice, another may view as a step too far. The key is understanding that style is deeply personal, and every individual has the right to express themselves however they choose—within reason, of course.
In the end, Gyamfiwaa might have worn the dress to challenge societal norms, to make a statement, or simply to look fabulous. Whatever the case, she certainly achieved one thing: she got people talking. And in the world of fashion, that’s often half the battle.

If the President’s Code of Conduct means anything, Sammy Gyamfi’s time as Acting CEO of the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) must end — and it must end immediately.
A now-viral video shows Gyamfi, a high-ranking political figure and presidential appointee, handing out US dollars from his vehicle to former fetish priestess Nana Agradaa in a moment he later described as “private generosity.”
This display, no matter the intent, is a violation not just of optics but of the very ethical principles laid out in the President’s own Code of Conduct for political appointees.
And let’s be clear: this is not about kindness. It’s about standards — the kind the Mahama administration promised to uphold. Section 1.1 of the Code of Conduct mandates that all ministers and appointees, including CEOs of parastatals, “perform their duties and manage their personal affairs in a manner that can stand the closest public scrutiny” and “ensure that any conflict between personal interest and public interest is resolved in favour of the public interest”.
A person in Sammy Gyamfi’s position cannot afford this kind of reckless informality. According to Section 1.2(c), appointees must manage their personal affairs in a way that withstands “the closest public scrutiny” and must comport themselves “in a manner befitting the trust and confidence placed in [them]”.
In a context where public confidence in institutions is already low, this dollar-handing stunt — however “well-meaning” — severely undermines the integrity of a fragile public office.
What makes the situation even more untenable is that this occurred while Gyamfi holds stewardship over GoldBod — a program controversially positioned at the heart of the government’s economic revival plans. His actions give the impression of discretionary financial power, misuse of influence, and public performativity — the very things the Code warns against in Sections 1.5.5 (Influence Peddling), 1.5.6 (Transparency and Accountability), and 1.5.9 (Use of Budgetary Allocation).
Section 6 of the Code is unequivocal: the President shall determine a course of action for any appointee who breaches the Code. The list of actions includes requiring a public apology, issuing a reprimand, requesting resignation, suspension, or outright termination.
Given the public nature of this breach and the potential to damage both the credibility of the GoldBod initiative and the new administration’s reformist image, the only appropriate option is immediate removal.
Failure to act will be read — and rightly so — as tacit approval of a system where appointees can blur the lines between public office and personal influence with impunity.
Yes, this is about Sammy Gyamfi. But it’s also about President Mahama. If he is serious about his own words — “I pledge to deal swiftly and decisively with any political appointee who breaches any of the standards set out in this Code” — then the response must match the rhetoric.
This administration has made integrity its rallying cry. It now has a chance to prove that cry is not hollow. Gyamfi’s act, however private he thought it was, became a public moment of failure. The job of good governance is to ensure private lapses don’t become national embarrassments.
Come Monday, the Ghana Gold Board needs new leadership. No equivocation. No delays. No excuses.

Ghana’s Black Satellites coach, Desmond Ofei, has branded the quarter-final clash against host nation Egypt as a “final” in their attempt to secure a World Cup slot.
Ghana remains undefeated after three matches in the competition, which include two victories and a draw.
The form saw them finish top of Group C with seven points.
However, coach Desmond is not getting carried away.
“Tomorrow’s game is a final,” he told the press.
“It is a golden ticket everybody wants this ticket and I’m sure the hosts nation will do everything in their ability to win the game but all in all, we have to show that we are the better team.”
The Satellites hope to qualify for the World Cup for the first time since 2015.

Former Deputy Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture, Mark Okraku Mantey
Former Deputy Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture, Mark Okraku Mantey, has dismissed public assumptions that government officials live lavishly off taxpayers’ money.
Speaking in an interview on Joy FM and monitored by GhanaWeb on Sunday, May 11, 2025, he said the public perception of political officeholders is often misguided.
“Sometimes the perception the public has about government appointees isn’t entirely accurate. For instance, when President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo reduced our salaries, people didn’t believe it. But it’s true. My salary was reduced by 30%, and after taxes and deductions, I was taking home just about 40% of the original salary. That came to a little below GH₵12,000”, he stated.
He explained that his take-home pay was significantly reduced due to statutory deductions.
“After the 25% income tax and 5% SSNIT contributions, my actual take-home was far lower than people assume,” he said.
He added that many did not believe the reductions were real, despite public announcements from the Presidency.
“Anytime I mention it, people think I’m lying. But the President made this decision public. I had been in office for about four or five months when the salary reduction directive came, and I continued receiving the reduced amount for three years until I left”, he indicated.
Okraku Mantey emphasised that he was not making these disclosures to complain but to draw attention to the commitment and sacrifices made by some public officials.
“I’m sharing this so people know the kind of sacrifices some of us made in service. Whether they believe it or not, it’s the truth”, he added.

“Invest your time in God’s word. Surrender your life to him. Never forget God in all that you do.” Evangelist Botchway said.

Mothers are known to be the backbone of families – raising children, running households, and playing maternal roles not only to their own children but also to relatives. I remember my childhood years spent with my maternal grandmother.
She raised eight children, plus three others from her hometown, while discreetly selling charcoal to support her household. My grandfather preferred her to be a stay-at-home mother, but like many women of her time, she found ways to contribute economically.
Fast forward to today, and the dynamics of motherhood have evolved significantly. Industrialization, urbanization, and shifting societal values have redefined what it means to be a mother. Extended family setups are gradually giving way to nuclear households, and women now have greater autonomy in decision-making – especially in matters of career and family planning.
As more women enter the workforce, they find themselves juggling professional responsibilities and parenting with increasing intensity. The sight of a mother dropping her three kids at school before rushing to work, only to return home at night to help with homework before continuing with office tasks, is not uncommon. The modern Ghanaian mother is constantly in motion, seeking to excel in her career while being present for her family.
Yet, time management is one of the biggest hurdles. Working mothers often feel pulled in multiple directions, trying to meet deadlines at work while providing emotional and physical care to their children. Compounded by societal expectations, many feel guilty for choosing career over traditional caregiving roles.
Despite strides in gender equality, mothers still face workplace discrimination. Some employers perceive them as less committed, resulting in slower career progression or missed promotion opportunities. This bias directly affects their financial stability – raising children is costly, with expenses ranging from daycare to school fees and healthcare.
Childcare access is another significant concern. Many mothers cannot rely on elderly parents due to age, illness, or existing responsibilities with other grandchildren. Trusting a nanny or daycare center comes with fear – stories of child abuse and neglect are all too common. Moreover, inadequate maternity leave policies and the lack of flexible working hours make it even more difficult for mothers to balance professional and personal responsibilities. This lack of institutional support can lead to burnout and a diminished quality of life.
Thankfully, technology has stepped in to ease some of the pressures of modern motherhood. Robotic-enabled appliances like washing machines, dishwashers, and microwaves, as well as online grocery and meal prep services, help reduce household labor. Simpler recipes and smart devices allow mothers to maximize their time without compromising on care. Additionally, many mothers are leveraging remote work and digital skills to build flexible careers. Certifications in Cybersecurity, Web Design, and Data Analytics now allow women to work from home, offering the dual benefit of professional growth and family presence.
Preparing financially for motherhood is a crucial yet often overlooked aspect of planning for a new chapter in life. While emotional and physical preparations – such as understanding the stages of pregnancy or adjusting to lifestyle changes – are undeniably important, financial readiness lays the groundwork for a more secure and confident transition into motherhood. Expenses such as prenatal checkups, labour and delivery plans, and setting up a safe and nurturing nursery can quickly add up. Without a clear and sustainable financial strategy, what should be moments of joyful anticipation can instead become sources of stress and uncertainty. Budgeting, saving, and understanding health coverage are just a few of the steps that can help ease this transition.
Let me share the story of Akua, whose journey deeply resonates with me. As a young professional in Accra, she was thrilled at the prospect of becoming a mother but soon realized the financial gaps in her planning. Determined not to let money overshadow the experience, she consulted a financial advisor, created a maternity savings plan, and even explored work benefits that supported parental leave. Her story is not just about overcoming challenges – it’s about proactively shaping her future as both a mother and a provider. Akua’s example highlights the empowering role of financial literacy and preparation in making motherhood not only manageable but truly fulfilling.
A mother’s mental well-being is crucial to her ability to nurture and support her family. Stress, anxiety, and postpartum depression can impair emotional bonding, affect physical health, and even lead to chronic illness if left unaddressed. Prolonged stress impacts sleep, weakens immunity, and increases the risk of heart disease.
Employers who prioritize mental health by offering counselling, flexible schedules, or wellness programs see improved productivity, motivation, and retention among working mothers. Investing in the mental health of mothers is a win-win for families and businesses alike.
One of the most impactful gifts a mother can give her child is the knowledge of financial responsibility. Beyond the basics of love and care, equipping children with financial literacy sets them up for long-term success and security. Teaching children about saving, budgeting, and investing from a young age instills critical life skills that foster independence, discipline, and confidence.
From simple lessons like setting aside a portion of birthday money, to more advanced concepts such as creating a budget or understanding how compound interest works, early financial education lays the groundwork for sound decision-making in adulthood. These lessons can be woven into everyday life – grocery shopping, earning allowances, or even starting a small business or savings challenge together. By demystifying money and making it a regular, open topic of discussion at home, mothers can break cycles of financial uncertainty and empower their children to build healthy relationships with money. Ultimately, nurturing financial literacy is not just about managing dollars – it’s about preparing children to thrive in a world where financial choices shape so much of their future.
Motherhood is one of the most demanding yet rewarding journeys a woman can undertake. Today’s Ghanaian mother is a blend of tradition and innovation, caring, providing, leading, and teaching. Despite the challenges be they structural, emotional, or financial mothers continue to adapt, grow, and thrive.
This Mother’s Day, let us celebrate the strength and resilience of mothers. Let us also remind them that financial literacy is not just a personal tool, it’s a legacy. By teaching and modeling financial responsibility, today’s mothers are laying the foundation for generations to come. As the Good Book says, “Money answereth all things.” So, keep saving, keep investing, and keep believing you are shaping a future of security, stability, and endless possibility.
Happy Mother’s Day!
Robin Mearns (in Smock) shaking hands with the Northern Regional Minister
The World Bank has commended Ghana for the remarkable progress achieved under the Gulf of Guinea Northern Regions Social Cohesion (SOCO) Project, describing its performance as exceeding expectations and delivering beyond initial targets.
This remark was made by Robin Mearns, the World Bank’s Global Director for Social Development, who led a high-level World Bank delegation to tour SOCO project sites and engaged with stakeholders to assess midterm progress, strengthen collaboration, and explore opportunities for potential scaling up the initiative.
“The SOCO Project is not only meeting but exceeding its targets. It is bringing tremendous economic prosperity to regions that have not seen much investment in the past. The scale and inclusiveness of the project are impressive, and I strongly encourage additional funding to extend its reach to the remaining vulnerable districts”, Mearns said.
During the field visit, the delegation inspected community-level interventions in Jinlo along the Salaga corridor, including a CHPS compound and guinea fowl rearing project.
He recounted the story of Fatima, a local farmer whose guinea fowl stock grew from 30 to over 100 birds with SOCO support.
The Northern Regional Minister, Ali Adolf John, described the project as a game changer in addressing both infrastructure gaps and social vulnerability in the six Northern regions.
She also noted that over 6,200 jobs — many for women, youth, and persons with disabilities — had been created, and 744 livelihood groups with more than 24,000 members had received support to boost local productivity.

Evangelist Patricia Asiedua
Popular evangelist Patricia Asiedua, widely known as Nana Agradaa, has urged members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) not to be upset over Sammy Gyamfi’s recent gesture toward her.
In a viral video, she clarified that the amount she received was $800, emphasizing that such a sum should not cause outrage among party supporters.
“How much is $800? NDC supporters shouldn’t feel aggrieved because of this. The Bible says you should not covet your neighbour’s blessings, always tap into somebody’s blessings,” she said.
She urged supporters of the party not to view the gesture as unfair or inappropriate but rather as a blessing that they too can experience.
“If Mama Pat has been blessed by Sammy Gyamfi, then supporters of the party should pray to encounter the same blessing from him, she said.
Nana Agradaa also warned that condemning acts of generosity could carry unintended consequences.
“If you condemn the act and someone blesses you, it is a curse,” she declared.
Controversy erupted after a video surfaced showing Gyamfi publicly handing over a large sum of dollars to Agradaa, sparking massive debate on social media regarding the act.

Chiefs and people of Asaman Tamfoe in the Atewa East District of the Eastern Region are threatening legal action against a native of Ankaase who is allegedly engaging in illegal mining activities popularly known as Galamsey.
According to the Chiefs and affected farmers, the illegal miner has armed himself with thugs and land guards, forcibly taking over farmlands, claiming ownership of the lands.
He has allegedly compromised the local police, making it difficult for them to take the necessary action against him.
A popular alleged illegal miner known as Abieku, who hails from Ankaase and is the younger brother of the Ankaase Chief, according to Chiefs and people of Asaman Tamfoe, has been consistently harassing innocent farmers with his illegalities.
According to the residents, he carries out his activities day and night with armed land guards forcibly taking over acres of farmland belonging to innocent farmers.
According to them, he mostly moves at night into farms, clear food produce being cocoa, cassava or palm, digs the soil suspected to be containing minerals and conveys them with trucks to Ankaase for onward washing.
Nana Adae Frimpong Manso, the Nifahene of Asaman Tamfoe, is a victim and has several close relatives whose farms have also been taken over by the illegal miner popularly known as Abieku.
“We have reported the case to the police, but up till now, Abeiku has not been arrested. His accomplices were arrested once but were released the same day. Up until now, Abeiku is a free man,” he said.
According to the farmers and residents, several attempts to get police involvement in this issue have not yielded any positive results.
“Abeiku claims the land is his, but that is not true. Our ancestors cultivated the land and handed it over to us. I am even older than him, so how did our land become his?” a farmer fumed.
When the team visited a disputed land in the area, Abieku was present, supervising the reclamation of one of the farmlands he allegedly forcibly took from one of the farmers.
The Chief of Asaman Tamfoe, Osabarima Kwame Koh, visibly angry by the situation, has threatened legal action against the illegal miner.
“Abeiku and his cohorts have been involved in galamsey. Whatever he is doing, he has to be brought to book. He has to be taken to court. And whatever compensation there is, he has to pay to this town,” he stated.
However, Abieku, who has denied engaging in illegal mining, is said to have rather served court sermons to the Nifahene of Asaman Tamfoe, the NPP Constituency Secretary who doubles as the NADMO boss for the district, the NDC constituency chairman and the newly confirmed DCE, who are all part of the community mining committee, accusing them of rather engaging in galamsey, an assertion vehemently denied by the Chief of Asaman Tamfoe.

Hello and welcome to another MARCA in English live blog, this time taking you through the biggest game of the 24/25 LaLiga season as Barcelona host Real Madrid.
The stage is set for another thrilling edition of El Clasico as Barcelona hosts Real Madrid at the Estadi Olimpic Lluis Companys. With just four points separating the two La Liga powerhouses, this match could be decisive in the title race.
Barcelona currently sits atop the table with 79 points, while Real Madrid follows closely behind with 75. A win for the Catalan side would stretch their lead to seven points, all but ending Madrid’s title hopes with only a few games remaining in the season.
Barcelona enters the game with confidence, having convincingly defeated Real Madrid 4-0 earlier this season at the Santiago Bernabeu. One of the standout performers for Barcelona this campaign has been Lamine Yamal, the teenage sensation who continues to impress in attack. With several senior forwards sidelined, Yamal’s creativity and composure in front of goal will be essential.
On the other side, Real Madrid is banking on the talents of Kylian Mbappe and Vinicius Junior to turn the tide. Mbappe, in his first El Clasico, brings explosive pace and lethal finishing, while Vinícius offers flair and unpredictability on the wing.
However, Real Madrid is significantly weakened in defense, missing key players like Dani Carvajal, Eder Militao, David Alaba, Antonio Rudiger, and Ferland Mendy. With such a depleted backline, goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois will be under immense pressure to keep his side in the game.
Tactically, fans can expect a classic clash of styles. Barcelona‘s high pressing and intricate passing will go head-to-head with Madrid’s trademark counter-attacks. Both sides are known for their attacking prowess, and with so much at stake, the match promises drama and intensity from the first whistle to the last.
Kick-off for Barcelona vs Real Madrid is 16:15 CEST. That means fans in the UK and Ireland can tune in to watch at 15:15.
Fans in the USA, meanwhile, will find Barcelona vs Real Madrid starting at 10:15 AM Eastern Time (ET)/ 7:15 AM Pacific Time (PT).
For fans in the United Kingdom, Barcelona vs Real Madrid can be seen on Premier Sports 1 with streaming on LaLigaTV.
US-based fans will be able to see Barcelona vs Real Madrid on ESPN+ and streaming on Fubo.
Wilberforce Mfum, the legendary former Ghana striker and Asante Kotoko icon, has passed away at the age of 88 after a brief illness. The sad news was confirmed on Sunday, May 11, 2025, marking the end of an era for Ghanaian football.
Affectionately nicknamed “The Bulldozer,” Mfum is remembered as one of Ghana’s most prolific and powerful forwards. He etched his name into African football history during the 1963 Africa Cup of Nations, where he scored Ghana’s first-ever goal at the tournament. He later netted twice in the final against Sudan, helping the Black Stars secure their maiden continental title on home soil.
Mfum’s contributions to the national team were immense. He scored 20 goals in just 26 appearances for Ghana and was also part of the squad that represented the country at the 1964 Olympic Games in Tokyo.
At club level, Mfum was a star for Kumasi-based giants Asante Kotoko, where his performances earned him national acclaim and opened doors abroad. In 1968, he moved to the United States, joining the Baltimore Bays in the National Professional Soccer League. He later played for Ukrainian SC in the German American Soccer League in 1969.
His journey continued with the Ukrainian Nationals in the American Soccer League in 1970, where he finished as joint top scorer alongside Juan Paletta. A year later, in 1971, he joined the New York Cosmos in the newly formed North American Soccer League, becoming one of the early African pioneers in U.S. professional football.

Former presidential staffer Charles Bissue
Every year on Mother’s Day weekend, former presidential staffer Charles Bissue honours his late mother’s memory by paying the hospital bills of mothers who have just given birth, a tradition inspired by his own birth story and the challenges his mother faced.
His latest gesture of kindness took place at the Essikado Government Hospital in the Western Region, where he settled the bills of all mothers who delivered between Friday, May 9, and Sunday, May 11, 2025.
In an audio message, Bissue shared the emotional story behind his commitment to supporting mothers.
“I was born on February 14, 1973. At the time, my mother was heavily pregnant, and my father didn’t have money, so he traveled in search of work. When she went into labour, there were no mobile phones, so she couldn’t reach him.
“She tried to hold on, but the pain became too much, so she rushed to a maternity home, Auntie Cece’s place in Laterbiokorshie. The midwife admitted her and allowed her to go home, trusting that my dad would come back to settle the bill. Eventually, my grandmother and father came and paid. That story stayed with me, and after my mother passed, I decided to do something for mothers every year,” he stated.
Charles Bissue noted that he began this initiative three years ago, following his mother’s passing.
“I’ve been doing this for the past three years. On Mother’s Day, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, I pay the bills of new mothers, whether it’s for a Caesarean section or normal delivery. This is because mothers go through a lot,” he said.
“Sometimes the husband or the man may not be working and going through labor while worrying about finances is extremely stressful. That stress can lead to complications, even the loss of a child. That’s why I do this every year,” he added.
Several beneficiaries expressed heartfelt gratitude for Charles Bissue’s generosity, saying it has helped ease a huge financial burden.
“My wife delivered at this facility, and the bill was paid by Charles Bissue in honor of Mother’s Day. He’s covering the bills of all women who delivered from Friday to Sunday, and we are extremely grateful,” said one husband.
Another beneficiary, a mother who had undergone a Caesarean section, shared her appreciation.
“I gave birth at Essikado Hospital through CS, and I want to say thank you to Honourable Charles Bissue for this kind gesture. God bless him wherever he is.”
Healthcare workers at the hospital also praised Charles Bissue’s continued support.
“Last year he paid the bills of new mothers, and this year he has done the same. We are truly appreciative. God bless him,” one staff member stated.

In Ghana and the world, the notion of the “soft life” has often been associated with women—luxury, relaxation, and emotional well-being. However, as societal norms evolve, there’s a growing recognition that men too deserve to embrace a lifestyle centred on ease, self-care, and emotional balance. This shift is not about rejecting hard work but about redefining strength to include vulnerability and self-awareness.
It is very important that choosing the soft life as a man does not make you any less of man. It just means that you are prioritizing tourself.
Here are five compelling reasons why Ghanaian men should embrace the soft life:

Ghana’s Black Satellites face Egypt in a crucial 2025 U-20 AFCON quarterfinal with a World Cup spot on the line. Their journey so far…
In Ghana, mental health issues among men are often overlooked due to cultural beliefs that associate mental illness with curses or spiritual attacks . This stigma discourages men from seeking help, leading to untreated conditions and, in severe cases, suicide.
Globally, men are more likely to commit suicide than women, with some studies indicating that men account for about 75% of all suicides . Adopting a soft life encourages men to seek support, engage in self-care practices, and prioritise their mental well-being.
Traditional Ghanaian masculinity often discourages men from expressing vulnerability, with phrases like “boys don’t cry” reinforcing emotional suppression .
This cultural norm can lead to emotional isolation and mental health challenges. The soft life promotes emotional openness, allowing men to express their feelings, seek help when needed, and build stronger, more supportive relationships.
Ghanaian society often places heavy expectations on men to be the primary breadwinners and to uphold traditional roles without showing weakness . These pressures can lead to stress and burnout.
Embracing the soft life means challenging these outdated norms, recognising that seeking balance and self-care is a sign of strength, not weakness.
Chronic stress and neglect of self-care can lead to various health issues, including hypertension and heart disease.
The soft life encourages men to engage in activities that promote physical health, such as regular exercise, adequate rest, and healthy eating. By prioritising these aspects, men can improve their overall health and quality of life.
The soft life is not about avoiding responsibility but about creating space for personal growth and fulfillment. By embracing self-care, emotional expression, and challenging societal expectations, men can lead more balanced and fulfilling lives. This approach allows them to pursue their passions, build meaningful relationships, and contribute positively to society.
The soft life is not a gendered concept but a holistic approach to living well. By embracing its principles, Ghanaian men can foster better mental and physical health, build stronger relationships, and lead more fulfilling lives. It’s time to redefine masculinity to include self-care, emotional expression, and intentional living.

The Finance Minister reminded the gathering that upon assuming office, he set out to stabilise the local currency, reduce inflation, and create jobs — pledging to remain steadfast in achieving these goals.

At least 12 houses were burnt down last night by unknown assailants in the Gumyoko community in the Binduri District of the Upper East Region.
This is believed to be a spillover of the long-standing chieftaincy conflict in neighbouring Bawku.
According to JoyNews security sources, similar attacks occurred three days earlier, bringing the total number of houses destroyed to over 20.
Sources reveal that residents had deserted the Gumyoko community nearly a month ago due to repeated attacks. The assailants allegedly exploited the empty settlement to burn down homes and other properties.
No arrests have been made so far.

Media personality, Nana Aba Anamoah, is in no small way stampeding President John Dramani Mahama, on behalf of Madam Obuobia Darko-Opoku.
According to her President Mahama, should have offered Madam Obuobia, a bigger position, than the current one she is occupying.
Madam Obuobia, is presently the Deputy Managing Director of Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL).
The Parliamentary Select Committee on Education has called on the government to ensure adequate budgeting is done before commencing educational infrastructure projects, in order to prevent future delays and abandoned projects.
This recommendation follows the committee’s inspection tour of senior high schools in the Eastern Region, where members observed widespread infrastructural decay and several long-abandoned school projects.
The schools visited—Ghana Senior High School (GHANAS), Koforidua Secondary Technical School, and New Juaben Senior High Commercial School—are grappling with significant infrastructure challenges. Many buildings are in disrepair, while various projects initiated by successive governments remain incomplete, some for over a decade.
Heads of the schools informed the committee that urgent infrastructure upgrades are required to support the transition from the double-track to the single-track system. They highlighted a lack of classroom space, overcrowded dormitories, and furniture shortages as major concerns affecting teaching and learning.
“The current number of classrooms stands at 52, and we have a deficit of 20 if we are to fully transition to a single-track system,” stated Diana Akosua Minah, Headmistress of GHANAS.
Following the visit, the committee commended school administrators for maintaining operations under difficult conditions but emphasized the need for a strategic funding approach.
“We have taken note of projects at various levels of completion—some at 80 to 90 percent. With a little more funding, they can be completed and put to use. Some have been stalled for more than 10 years. That’s a waste of public resources,” said Peter Nortsu-Kotoe, a member of the Education Committee.
“Going forward, we must have a budget in place before we begin any new project to avoid wasting public money.”
Deputy Ranking Member Mustapha Hamid added that the committee would submit its findings and recommendations to the Minister for Education, emphasizing the urgency of reverting fully to the single-track system.
“This is a policy the government has committed to, and as the committee with oversight responsibility, we’ll ensure our recommendations reach the Minister for Education.”
In a related appeal, Professor Samuel Donkor, President of All Nations University, urged the government to implement inclusive policies that would enhance the participation and development of private universities.
“The current landscape often treats us as secondary players. This must change if Ghana is to truly harness education as a driver of national development,” he said.

I share this award with you,” he said.
Stonebwoy also took a moment to appreciate his fellow nominees and pioneers in the genre, including Samini and Ras Kuuku, for their continued impact on Ghanaian music.
He wrapped up his speech with a special tribute to his wife, Dr. Louisa.

Startling revelation last week by Kwaku Adu-Boahene, former Director General of the National Signals Bureau, that the security apparatus of the erstwhile Akufo-Addo government made huge payment to the then opposition party has raised eyebrows.
Adu-Boahene, in a letter he wrote from the custody of EOCO, listed a breakdown of the disbursement of some 49 million cedis he is being prosecuted for stealing.
He disclosed he paid a whopping GH¢8.3 million to an opposition party supposedly of the New Patriotic Party to aid their 2024 opposition party’s election campaign.
The alleged payment to the NPP’s political opponent by the security apparatus of the party’s own government has been heavily criticised with many people questioning why the then government would make such a payment to the opposition party.
In view of this, a Development Economist and lecturer, Dr Margaret Coomson, has described as “betrayal” the payment made to the opposition party.
It is a “stab in the back of the NPP and its 2024 presidential and parliamentary candidates” by the then government, she wrote in an article.
Read full article below:
Why did the Akufo-Addo government’s national security apparatus support the NDC in the 2024 election?
By Dr. Margaret Coomson, Development Economist
Imagine Real Madrid making a huge cash donation to its fiercest rivals, Barcelona, to aid Barca’s transfer activities. Or imagine Barcelona, sending technical and other form of support to Real Madrid, to aid Madrid’s preparation ahead of a crucial El Classic, to decide the La Liga title.
Such a scenario, to both sets of rival fans, is unfathomable. And in the most unlikely event that any official from either club, sanctioned such a strange gesture, it would be deemed sacreligious and unforgivable!
Well, that’s what happened right here in Ghana, in our political space in the build up to the crucial 2024 Elections.
According to former Director General of the National Signals Bureau, Kwabena Adu Boahene, the erstwhile Akufo-Addo government, through its security apparatus, supported the NPP’s fiercest rival in the election, with a mindboggling financial support of GHS 8.3m Cedis!
Yes you read right; the NPP Government, according to the former intelligence Chief, made a whopping financial assistance of GHS 8.3m to its opponent to aid their elections operations.
Interesting, isn’t it? Well, to some people, it is scandalous and a betrayal of unimaginable proportion, for the security apparatus of a sitting government, to extend such a support to a political rival seeking to axe the government and the NPP from office.
It is, therefore, unsurprising, and understandable that a number of NPP party stalwarts are seething with rage, following revelation by Kwabena Adu-Boahene, in his explosive letter, which also revealed another gleeful presentation of brand new vehicles to the then President-elect, at a time the President-elect himself had told the whole world that government’s coffers were empty to the bone!
A number of high-ranking NPP members I am very close to, have expressed their disgust over the what they rightly deem a complete betrayal by its own government and officials, against the NPP party and it’s Presidential Candidate, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.
“Why did our own Government’s National security apparatus support the NDC in the 2024 election? This revelation is shocking and I am very sad our own government, our own people did this against our party,” one leading national executive member of the party told me.
The angry national executive official believes the government’s national security apparatus could not have made such a huge payment to the opposition without official authorisation from the apex of the then government.
This is assertion is true, and I completely side with it. There was no way one person, in this case Adu Boahene alone, from the national security apparatus, could have made such a treacherous payment to a party’s rival without the blessings and support of the very top.
Adu Boahene’s claims, which have so far not been denied by key elements in the erstwhile government’s security chiefs, including Security Minister and National Security Coordinator, is a complete betrayal and a painful stab in the back of the NPP party, its Presidential and Parliamentary Candidates.
Concerned NPP members, and indeed Ghanaians, would be right to question the motives of those who planned and executed such huge payment by the Akufo-Addo government to its main political rival?
Since the shocking disclosure by Adu Boahene, I have been imagining what really was the motive of those who did this to betray their own party in a crucial election.
Those who ordered the payment and those who executed it, surely would have done so for two reasons; to sabotage the candidature of Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, as is being speculated, or an attempt to buy their own security should the opposition party win, a fantasy which seems to have backfired, necessitating a straw-clutching disclosure by Adu Boahene.
Well, if you thought it’s unfathomable for a political party in government to extend huge financial support to its arch rival ahead of a crucial election to aid their preparations, you should know that the Akufo-Addo government, through its national security apparatus, stabbed its own party, the NPP in the back.
The lingering question remains: why did the Akufo-Addo government’s national security apparatus support the NPP’s arch rival in the 2024 election?
This is a question true and concerned members of the NPP, including the party’s 2024 Presidential and Parliamentary Candidates, will justifiably continue to ask themselves.

A technical fault aboard the Jubilee Floating Production Storage and Offloading (FPSO) vessel, Kwame Nkrumah, has resulted in a temporary disruption in gas supply, the Ministry of Energy and Green Transition announced on Saturday May 10.
An official statement released by the Ministry’s spokesperson, Richmond Rockson, Esq., revealed that the issue reportedly occurred around 4 p.m. on Saturday, May 10 and has since halted the regular flow of gas from the FPSO unit.
Black Satellites’ central defender DaCosta Antwi has earned a significant recognition at the TotalEnergies U-20 Africa Cup of Nations Egypt 2025, having been named by the tournament’s Technical Study Group among the standout eleven players from the group stage.
Antwi, who plies his trade with Ghanaian Premier League club, Young Apostles FC, has been a pillar in Ghana’s backline, and featured prominently in all three of the Black Satellites’ matches in Group C. Operating on the left side of Ghana’s central defence, the young defender has drawn praise for his composure, tactical intelligence, and consistency. According to the Technical Study Group, Antwi acquitted himself with distinction—showing steadiness under pressure, progressing play effectively from the back, and nullifying threats that came through his zone.
His selection as one of the top defenders in the tournament’s group phase underscores not only his individual brilliance but also the solidity of Ghana’s defensive structure, with the Satellites having conceded only one goal in the tournament so far. The young defender’s inclusion will serve as a major boost ahead of Ghana’s high-stakes quarter-final clash against host nation Egypt.
Reacting to the news, Antwi remained humble and grounded. “I didn’t expect this at all. It’s an honour, but I owe it all to the team. We defend together, and we win together. I’m just doing my part,” he said. “There’s still work to do. Our eyes are on the main goal—to beat Egypt, get to the semi-finals, and book our ticket to the World Cup. That’s the real prize.”
Ghana’s quarter-final against Egypt is scheduled for Monday, May 12, at the new Suez Stadium, with kick-off set for 6:00 p.m. local time (15:00 GMT). With Antwi and his colleagues in defence, including Aaron Essel, Ofori McCarthy and goalkeeper Gidios Aseako, continuing to protect the Satellites at the rear, Ghana will be hoping to extend their impressive run and inch closer to continental glory and qualification for the U-20 World Cup Chile 2025.

Former Deputy General Secretary of NPP, Nana Obiri Boahen
Former Deputy General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Obiri Boahen, has called for a non-partisan approach to tackling illegal mining, popularly known as galamsey.
Speaking in on Kasapa 102.5 FM, Nana Obiri Boahen stated that illegal mining should not be politicised, noting that both the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the NPP have failed to adequately address the menace.
“Illegal mining is not a partisan matter. It is a general problem we are facing as a country,” he said.
He stressed that not all mining activities are illegal and expressed concern over the tendency to label licensed miners as galamsey operators.
“When someone has a license to mine, why do we describe the person as an illegal miner?” he questioned, urging the public and media to make clear distinctions.
Reflecting on the political landscape, the lawyer criticised both major parties for their inconsistency in addressing the issue.
“When the NPP was in power, the opposition was loud in fighting galamsey, even calling for a state of emergency. Now that the NDC is in power, the problem persists, yet they have not declared a state of emergency,” he said.
Nana Obiri Boahen noted that the NDC has been in office for over 120 days, yet the government has not taken decisive emergency action against illegal mining, raising concerns about the sincerity of political leaders.
“This should let Ghanaians know that our democracy is untruthful and dishonest,” he remarked.

She also alleged that a blogger present during the encounter recorded a video but refused to post it in full context.

“Sammy Gyamfi advised me not to insult Owusu-Bempah anymore and to stay out of politics because I have my own platform and should focus on my work. He told me if I ever had legitimate information about allegations against the NDC, I should go through the right channels,” she added.
