The Black Stars ended their Unity Cup campaign on a high note, thrashing Trinidad and Tobago 4-0 in the third-place playoff at London’s GTech Community Stadium on Saturday.

The victory marked a welcome conclusion to the tournament for Coach Otto Addo’s team, who had lost 2-1 to the Super Eagles of Nigeria in the semifinal on Wednesday.

Captain Jordan Ayew set the tone early, scoring the opening goal in the 6th minute with a beautifully struck left-foot shot. Razak Simpson doubled the lead just six minutes later, heading home Ayew’s corner kick.

The Black Stars continued to dominate, and Mohammed Fuseini made it 3-0 just before halftime, scoring with a precise finish after a one-two with Jordan Ayew.

In the second half, Otto Addo introduced fresh legs to inject more energy into the side, bringing on Felix Afena Gyan, Majeed Ashimeru, and Abdul Aziz Issah.

Midfielder Lawrence Agyekum, who had started in place of the injured regulars, sealed the win with a debut goal in the 58th minute.

Despite Trinidad’s late attempts to breach the Ghanaian defense, Lawrence Ati-Zigi held firm in goal, and the Black Stars saw out the game without conceding.

The Eastern North Regional Police Command has arrested three 3 suspects in connection with the transportation of 5,950 compressed and some non-compressed leaves suspected to be Indian hemp on the Volta Lake at Asuboni, near Kwahu Adawso in the Eastern Region.

The suspects, Abraham Agonu, Michael Akuaku, and Confidence Amenuveve, were arrested on May 28 while ferrying the suspected narcotics across the lake.

Preliminary investigations suggest that the suspects were part of a larger operation led by a man identified only as Felix, who is believed to have boarded a separate boat en route to the Akate area.

According to the police statement, they retrieved from the suspects include one pump-action shotgun, 85 maxi sacks containing 5,950 pieces of compressed as well as some non-compressed substances suspected to be Indian hemp, two outboard motors, and one large engine boat.

Police said they are on a manhunt to arrest another suspect, identified as Felix and other accomplices linked to the case.

Bail review application can’t block Wontumi’s release if conditions are met – Kpebu

0

Private legal practitioner Martin Kpebu has dismissed claims that a recent court action can delay the release of New Patriotic Party (NPP) Ashanti Regional Chairman, Bernard Antwi Boasiako, also known as Chairman Wontumi, insisting that the bail review initiated in court should not override the execution of bail once the conditions have been fulfilled.

Speaking on Channel One Newsroom on Saturday, May 31, Mr. Kpebu said the so-called bail review does not constitute sufficient grounds to detain Wontumi further, provided the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) is satisfied with the documentation and sureties submitted.

“That process that has been filed in court, I don’t see how it can prevent the release of Chairman Wontumi, if only EOCO is satisfied with the properties that have been produced to them—that is, the document and everything given to them,” Kpebu explained.

He urged the NPP to handle the situation with greater care, warning that the confusion surrounding the process undermines legal clarity and institutional trust.

“There is something—I think the NPP needs to take their time and sanitize this situation. It doesn’t look tidy,” he added.

Wontumi is under investigation by EOCO for alleged money laundering, fraud, and causing financial loss to the state. He was arrested on May 27 and granted bail on May 28 to the tune of GH¢50 million with two justified sureties.

Although his legal team initially struggled to meet the conditions, his lawyer, Andy Appiah-Kubi, confirmed on Friday, May 30, that all requirements had been fulfilled. However, a fresh legal challenge has since delayed his release, prompting further political and legal scrutiny.

“We encountered some difficulties which will be sorted out on Monday, June 2. We will work towards the desired results. I will stay out of politics and the theatrics and do what is within the law,” Appiah-Kubi told the media.

The case continues to fuel tensions within the opposition NPP, with party members questioning the legal process and the timing of the developments.

5 foods that can naturally whiten your teeth

0

Want a Whiter Smile Without Breaking the Bank? Try These 5 Natural Teeth Whiteners from Your Kitchen

Everyone wants a bright, confident smile—but let’s face it, professional teeth whitening treatments can be pricey and sometimes too harsh for sensitive teeth. In Lagos, a single whitening session can cost anywhere between ₦50,000 and ₦200,000! No wonder some people would rather keep their smiles hidden.

But what if we told you that nature offers some simple, affordable, and effective ways to brighten your teeth—using foods you probably already have at home?

While these natural methods won’t give you a Hollywood-white smile overnight, incorporating them into your diet can help gradually lift surface stains, fight bacteria, and support better oral health over time. No chemicals, no stress—just results, naturally.

Here are 5 everyday foods that can help whiten your teeth:

1. Strawberries

Yes, really! Despite their vibrant color, strawberries contain malic acid, a natural compound that can help remove surface stains from your teeth. You can mash one up and gently rub it on your teeth for a minute or two before brushing, or just enjoy them whole—chewing helps scrub your teeth as you eat.

Just don’t forget to rinse and brush afterwards, as strawberries also contain sugar and natural acids.

2. Apples

Crisp, juicy apples act like a natural toothbrush. Their fibrous texture scrubs away plaque and stains, while the chewing action stimulates saliva production—your mouth’s natural cleaning agent.

An apple a day might not replace your dentist, but it sure helps keep your smile cleaner between brushes.

3. Carrots

Raw carrots work in much the same way as apples. Their crunch helps dislodge food particles and plaque, and chewing them boosts saliva flow, which washes away bacteria.

Plus, they’re packed with nutrients that benefit your skin, eyes, and overall health.

4. Pineapple

This tropical fruit contains bromelain, an enzyme known for breaking down stains and reducing plaque buildup. In fact, some whitening toothpastes include bromelain for its natural cleaning power.

Stick with fresh pineapple for the best results—canned versions often have added sugar that can do more harm than good.

5. Cheese

Cheese, especially hard varieties like cheddar, is rich in calcium, which strengthens enamel and helps prevent decay. It also stimulates saliva flow and reduces acid levels in your mouth—protecting your teeth from discoloration and erosion.

As a bonus, cheese can help neutralize acids from other foods, keeping your smile healthy and strong.

The Bottom Line

Natural teeth whitening won’t deliver instant results, but it’s a gentle, cost-effective way to maintain a brighter smile. By adding these foods to your daily diet, you’ll be supporting your dental health and reducing your reliance on expensive or abrasive treatments.

Your kitchen might just be the best place to start your journey to a healthier, whiter smile.

Parliament ratifies WTO agreement on fisheries subsidies

0

Parliament has ratified the World Trade Organisation (WTO) Agreement on Fisheries Subsidies, reaffirming Ghana’s commitment to combat illegal, unreported, and unregulated (IUU) fishing and promote sustainable fisheries management.

The ratification was spearheaded through a joint memorandum by the Minister for Fisheries and Aquaculture Development, Emelia Arthur, and the Minister for Trade, Agribusiness and Industry, Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare.

This move marks Ghana’s formal endorsement of the global agreement adopted at the 12th WTO Ministerial Conference in Geneva in June 2022. The pact aims to eliminate harmful subsidies that drive overfishing and IUU activities, particularly in overexploited waters and on the high seas. It introduces binding prohibitions on subsidies linked to IUU fishing and depleted fish stocks, with transitional provisions for developing countries like Ghana.

Speaking on the ratification, the Minister, Emelia Arthur stated: “The ratification of this Agreement aligns with Ghana’s Marine Fisheries Management Plan (2022–2026), our national blueprint to restore marine fish stocks, enhance data collection, and improve enforcement. It also supports our broader efforts to build a resilient, equitable fisheries sector.”

Ghana’s fisheries sector remains a key pillar of the economy, supporting millions of livelihoods and contributing to food security, nutrition, and foreign exchange earnings. However, the sector faces persistent challenges including declining fish stocks, overcapacity, and environmental degradation.

The timing of the ratification is significant, as it aligns with the Fisheries Ministry’s plans to establish Marine Protected Areas (MPAs)—a crucial measure for replenishing stocks and sustaining coastal communities.

According to the memorandum submitted to Parliament, the agreement also seeks to create a level playing field for Ghana’s artisanal and semi-industrial fishers, who often face stiff competition from heavily subsidised foreign fleets, particularly from China, Japan, and the European Union.

The ratification brings Ghana closer to fulfilling Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 14.6, which calls for the elimination of harmful fisheries subsidies by 2025. Following parliamentary approval, the Ministry of Fisheries and Aquaculture will transmit the instrument of ratification to the WTO Secretariat. Simultaneously, the Ministry is revising national fisheries laws to align with the agreement’s provisions.

Minister Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare added, “This is not just a trade agreement; it is a pact to protect the future of Ghana’s marine resources and the millions who depend on them. It signals Ghana’s role as a responsible flag and coastal state committed to sustainability, fairness, and international cooperation.”

The government has assured stakeholders that the implementation process will include broad consultations, public awareness campaigns, and capacity-building programmes to ensure effective enforcement and stakeholder buy-in.

This development strengthens Ghana’s leadership in sustainable fisheries governance and highlights its dual commitment to environmental stewardship and economic resilience, particularly as host of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).

PSG thrash Inter Milan to win first-ever Champions League title

0

Paris St-Germain’s brilliant teenager Desire Doue delivered an inspired display as they delivered a masterclass to thrash Inter Milan in Munich and win the Champions League for the first time.

The 19-year-old confirmed his status as one of the game’s new young superstars as Luis Enrique’s side capped a brilliant campaign by sweeping Inter aside in a blaze of attacking football.

Doue helped PSG on their way to history by setting up Achraf Hakimi for a simple finish after 12 minutes, adding the second eight minutes later with a shot that deflected off Inter defender Federico Dimarco.

Luis Enrique, who becomes only the sixth coach to win this tournament with two different clubs after his 2015 triumph with Barcelona, saw his thrilling team pick Inter apart. Any doubt about the outcome was removed when PSG got the third goal their performance deserved after 63 minutes.

Ousmane Dembele’s flick released Vitinha, who played in Doue for a composed finish as he became, at 19 years and 362 days, only the third teenager to score in a Champions League final – after Patrick Kluivert for Ajax in 1995 and Carlos Alberto for Porto in 2004.

PSG were outclassing Inter in devastating style, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia running clear to beat Yann Sommer, to send Luis Enrique running down the touchline in a dance of ecstasy.

The agony was not over for Inter, who lost to Manchester City in the 2023 final. PSG substitute Senny Mayulu, himself still only 19, became the fourth teenager to score in a Champions League final, adding a fifth goal four minutes from time.

‘EOCO’s treatment of Wontumi an abuse of power reminiscent of junta era’

0

Professor Kingsley Nyarko is the Member of Parliament for Kwadaso Professor Kingsley Nyarko is the Member of Parliament for Kwadaso

Member of Parliament for Kwadaso and former Deputy Education Minister, Professor Kingsley Nyarko, has strongly criticised the Economic and Organized Crime Office (EOCO) for its handling of the case involving Chairman Wontumi.

Professor Nyarko described EOCO’s actions as a “total abuse of power” and “political intimidation,” reminiscent of Ghana’s military junta era.

He expressed particular concern over the ‘outrageous’ bail condition of 50 million Ghanaian cedis, which he believes violates Article 14(4) of the Constitution.

The MP urged President John Dramani Mahama to intervene and put an end to what he termed “political persecution” and “majoritarian tyranny.”

He emphasised the need for the government to focus on critical national priorities rather than engaging in politically motivated harassment.

While acknowledging that no one is above the law, Professor Nyarko stressed the importance of treating everyone fairly and affording them due process.

He warned that the current approach risks undermining Ghana’s democracy and reverting to oppressive governance styles of the past.

Referring to historical precedents, he recalled the 2003 case involving Victor Salome, where bail was granted following proper legal procedures, underscoring the need for consistency and fairness in the application of justice.

The MP further emphasised that the government should focus on critical national priorities such as job creation, improving living standards, and ensuring reliable power supply rather than engaging in politically motivated harassment.

Professor Nyarko also highlighted that no individual, including Chairman Wontumi, is above the law.

However, he insisted that everyone deserves to be treated fairly and afforded due process.

He cautioned against conflating unrelated issues such as Wontumi’s public display of wealth with criminality, as suggested by some NDC supporters, and called for investigations and court proceedings to be transparent and just.

Professor Nyarko called on all stakeholders to recommit to democracy, transparency, and respect for human rights, emphasising that this kind of political intimidation and abuse of power must stop to maintain peace, stability, and trust in institutions.

Bail review shouldn’t delay Wontumi’s release if conditions are met

Although his legal team initially struggled to meet the conditions, his lawyer, Andy Appiah-Kubi, confirmed on Friday, May 30, that all requirements had been fulfilled. However, a fresh legal challenge has since delayed his release, prompting further political and legal scrutiny.

“We encountered some difficulties which will be sorted out on Monday, June 2. We will work towards the desired results. I will stay out of politics and the theatrics and do what is within the law,” Appiah-Kubi told the media.

Dialysis cost now covered under NHIS – Akandoh

0

The government has announced the inclusion of dialysis support for needy patients under the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS), marking a significant step toward easing the financial burden on individuals suffering from kidney diseases.

The initiative follows the release of 1.5 million Ghana Cedis out of a total of 2 million Ghana Cedis allocated in 2024 to pilot the programme to support patients who were undergoing dialysis treatment but unable to afford the high cost of care.

Minister of Health, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, disclosed this development in Parliament after MPs approved a 10 billion Ghana Cedi allocation for the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) to implement its 2025 Distribution Formula on Friday, May 30.

“What we have done is that we have included dialysis as part of the benefit package of the National Health Insurance Scheme, just like malaria or any other disease. The policy direction is that we are going to fund the dialysis issues in this country.”

The Minister also stated that the 10 billion Ghana Cedi allocation will also fund the government’s Free Primary Health Care policy. This policy is designed to allow all citizens to access basic healthcare services at no cost.

“So, a Ghanaian is sick and he or she goes to the CHPS compound or the health center, the policy is that he must be treated free of charge. As a result of the withdrawal of support from our donor partners, there has been a huge funding gap in the health sector due to the withdrawal of our partners, like the USAID.

“Therefore, that revenue will go to fill the gap. A certain percentage will be taken from the NHIS fund to support the Mahama Cares.”

‘It was a tsunami we didn’t see coming’ – Catherine Afeku on NPP’s 2024 election defeat

0

Former Minister of Tourism, Culture, and Creative Arts, Catherine Afeku Former Minister of Tourism, Culture, and Creative Arts, Catherine Afeku

Former Minister of Tourism, Culture, and Creative Arts, Catherine Afeku, has described the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) defeat in the 2024 general elections as a tsunami the party did not anticipate.

Speaking in a recent interview on Joy News, she acknowledged the need for humility in accepting the outcome of the elections and urged the NPP to drop the blame game and focus instead on internal unity and reflection.

‘I’ve been through five election cycles, but 2024, the tsunami, we didn’t see it coming. So we’ve taken it with humility, my perspective.

“We’ve done the assessment and we’re going through the amendments that is forthcoming that we will go and see how we come back to the drawing board. To the rank and file of the party, we should unite”, she urged.

Reflecting on the loss, Afeku, who left office in 2020, acknowledged that while she was no longer a minister or Member of Parliament during the 2024 elections, she remained a committed member of the governing party.

“I came out of office in 2020, but I was still part of the government and I will defend it with my heart,” she said.

She acknowledged the need for humility in accepting the outcome of the elections.

She also urged the NPP to drop the blame game and focus instead on internal unity and reflection.

“You have to take it with humility. Denial will not help. We didn’t see it coming. The tsunami of 2024, we didn’t see it,” she said.

The former legislator further stressed the need of accepting defeat and using it as a springboard for rebuilding.

“It’s just a feeling of when you are defeated, you know, you get dejected and everybody starts to do the blame game, and it’s your fault, so we need to first accept we were defeated. First you deny, and then you accept, and then you, you go back to drawing boards of grievance.

“And then you, you start putting your stuff together. So right now, the key challenge is being united”, she added.

Cancer treatment in Ghana is still largely out-of-pocket

Pediatric nurse and childhood cancer advocate, Akua Sarpong Pediatric nurse and childhood cancer advocate, Akua Sarpong

Pediatric nurse and childhood cancer advocate Akua Sarpong is calling on individuals, businesses, and faith-based organizations to support the construction of a 48-bed pediatric cancer care facility at Korle Bu Teaching Hospital.

Sarpong, who also serves as executive director of Lifeline for Childhood Cancer Ghana, made the appeal during an art auction fundraiser held at the Mercedes-Benz CFAO Showroom. The event, themed “Little Hands, Big Dreams,” showcased children’s art to raise funds for pediatric cancer care.

Sharing her personal journey in an exclusive interview with GhanaWeb, Sarpong revealed that she lost her child to cancer years ago, an experience that inspired the formation of the Lifeline Foundation.

The foundation is now the official partner of the Pediatric Oncology Unit at Korle Bu, raising funds for diagnostics, treatment, nutrition, and skills development programs for mothers.

Currently, the Pediatric Oncology Unit at Korle Bu has only 24 beds. The new three-storey, 48-bed facility aims to significantly improve survival rates for children with cancer by providing comprehensive, dedicated care.

“Our work is not finished. We’ve started the construction of this big, ambitious treatment centre for children with cancer. And this is important because our children don’t have a lot of hope. And it’s important that if we want to ensure that our survival rate goes up,” she explained.

The project is estimated to cost $1.6 million, but only $458,000 has been raised so far.

“Although we have four cancers on the National Health Insurance. But we all know the challenge with National Health Insurance, we’re not getting the access and cancer treatment is still out of pocket for parents, and that’s why we do what we do to ensure that these kids live,” Sarpong said.

She added that she and her team remain committed to their vision, stating “We won’t stop until no child in Ghana dies from cancer.”

OPEC+ oil producers to increase production from July

0

The eight states, including Saudi Arabia and Russia, will increase their joint daily production by 411,000 barrels in July, according to a statement.

The decision was taken “in view of a steady global economic outlook and current healthy market fundamentals,” the group said.

In recent months, the eight states had already decided on an increase of 411,000 barrels each for May and June. The industry standard barrel contains 159 litres of oil.

The latest move was expected by the markets and is therefore unlikely to have a major impact on oil prices, Commerzbank analysts predicted before the decision.

OPEC+ unites the Vienna-based Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) under the leadership of Saudi Arabia with partners such as Russia.

Together, they are responsible for around 40% of global oil production. According to the group’s latest data, OPEC+ produced around 40.9 million barrels per day in April.

In recent years, the eight core states of the cartel cut their production by 2.2 million barrels. Since April, the group has begun to gradually reverse the decrease.

kinky hairstyles, characterized by their tight coils and voluminous texture, offer a versatile canvas for creativity. From the classic afro to intricate twist-outs, these styles allow individuals to express themselves while honoring their natural hair. The afro, for instance, stands as a bold statement of self-acceptance and empowerment, harking back to the civil rights movement where it symbolized resistance and pride.

Twist-outs and braid-outs have become go-to styles for many, offering defined curls and a fuller appearance. These styles not only enhance the natural curl pattern but also provide a protective element, reducing manipulation and potential damage. Moreover, they can be easily adapted for various occasions, from casual outings to formal events

Protective styles like box braids, Senegalese twists, and faux locs have also gained popularity. These styles not only shield the hair from environmental stressors but also offer low-maintenance options for those leading busy lives. Incorporating accessories such as beads, cuffs, and colorful threads can further personalize these looks, adding a touch of flair and individuality.

The resurgence of natural hair appreciation has also led to the innovation of new styles that blend traditional techniques with modern aesthetics. For instance, the combination of flat twists with loose curls offers a fresh take on classic styles, providing both protection and a contemporary look.

Maintaining the health and vibrancy of kinky hairstyles requires proper care. Regular moisturizing, gentle handling, and protective measures during sleep, such as using satin or silk scarves, are essential. Moreover, consulting with professional hairstylists can provide personalized advice tailored to individual hair needs.

Trendy kinky hairstyles are more than just fashion statements; they are expressions of identity, culture, and self-love. By embracing these styles, individuals not only showcase their natural beauty but also pay homage to a rich heritage. As the fashion world continues to evolve, the celebration of natural hair stands as a testament to authenticity and empowerment.

President John Dramani Mahama has announced that a new and significantly favourable cocoa producer price will be unveiled in August 2025, offering a major incentive to farmers across the country.

Speaking during his Thank You tour in the Ahafo Region on Saturday, May 31, President Mahama assured cocoa farmers of his administration’s commitment to revitalising the cocoa sector, which he said has faced significant setbacks in recent years.

“Plans are underway to revamp the collapsed cocoa sector,” the President stated.

“Incentives will be provided to our hardworking farmers to increase cocoa production. We aim to add 200,000 hectares of cocoa to Ghana’s output in order to increase the income of our farmers.”

Addressing a gathering of farmers and community members, President Mahama disclosed that the Chief Executive of COCOBOD had briefed him on preparations to announce the new cocoa price in August.

“To cocoa farmers, the COCOBOD Chief Executive has informed me that in August, they will announce the new cocoa producer price. And I can assure you, the price is going to be a very, very, very good price,” he said.

Encouraging more Ghanaians to venture into cocoa farming, he added, “So those of you who don’t have cocoa farms, go and start looking for land and start planting cocoa.”

The President’s remarks come as part of a broader government strategy to rejuvenate Ghana’s agricultural base and empower rural communities.

The promise of a favourable cocoa price is expected to energise cocoa-producing regions and restore confidence in the industry.

‘You’re part of why NPP lost’

Political science lecturer and governance analyst, Professor Ransford Gyampo Political science lecturer and governance analyst, Professor Ransford Gyampo

Political science lecturer and governance analyst, Professor Ransford Gyampo, has fired back at former Presidential Staffer Dennis Miracles Aboagye, accusing him of contributing to the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) electoral defeat.

The response follows Miracles’ sharp criticism on Peace FM’s Kokrokoo morning show, where he accused Prof. Gyampo and other vocal critics of the previous Akufo-Addo administration of going silent on the worsening illegal mining crisis under the current NDC government.

Miracles specifically questioned why Prof Gyampo, who once pushed Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia to sign an anti-galamsey undertaking, has not held President Mahama to the same standard amid reports of escalating environmental degradation.

“When was the last time you heard Prof Gyampo talking about galamsey? He chased Bawumia to sign an undertaking… If Mahama signed, then Prof Gyampo, take that undertaking and call out the President… If not, you’re a big disservice to this country,” Miracles said.

But Prof. Gyampo, also appearing on Kokrokoo, dismissed the accusation and defended his role as a consistent advocate against illegal mining.

“The NPP lost the election because of how people like him speak,” Prof Gyampo fired back.

“We are not silent. In fact, we’ve met with President Mahama and the Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Emmanuel Armah Kofi Buah, to remind them of the President’s pledge to fight galamsey,” he added.

He stated that although the measures currently being implemented are not yet sufficient, the Mahama-led government has “given every indication that they are working at it”.

“The respect shown to us by this administration is far better than what we received under the previous one, and that deserves a constructive response,” he added.

Mental Health Forum: Stakeholders call for end to stereotyping

0

By Eric Appah Marfo

Accra, May 31, GNA – Dr Daniel Adjei, a Mental Health Professional, has urged Ghanaians to confront stereotypes associated with mental health by speaking out and seeking professional help when in need.

Delivering a keynote address at the maiden edition of the Mental Health Forum (MHF 2025) held in Accra on Saturday, Dr Adjei underscored the urgent need to prioritise mental health in national discourse, stressing that “there is no health without mental health.”

He described the theme:“Beyond Stigma – Changing the Mental Health Narrative in Ghana,”as not merely a slogan, but a national call to empathy, compassion, and decisive action.

“As a psychiatrist and a teacher, I’ve sat with many, both old and young, who carry burdens the world refuses to see,” Dr Adjei said.

“Some speak through tears. Others sit in silence and many wear their pain behind a smile, pretending to cope in a society that often tells them to be strong or play harder.”

He said mental illness should not be misconstrued as a curse, weakness or moral failure, but recognised as a medical condition akin to malaria or diabetes, which deserved urgent, dignified, and respectful care.

Dr Adjei revealed that over two million Ghanaians currently lived with mental health conditions, yet only a fraction received appropriate care due to the limited number of facilities and professionals, and the overwhelming barrier of stigma.

He called for open dialogue, improved access to mental health services, and policy reforms to make care accessible and affordable.

He emphasised the need for sustainable funding, integration of mental health education in schools, and mental wellness promotion in workplaces.

“Our children must learn about mental health as a normal part of life. No child should be allowed to grow up thinking that the pain they carry is a crime or a weakness,” he noted.

“And at our workplaces, we must see those places as places well enough to be recognised and protected and shouldn’t be ridiculed or punished.”

Dr Adjei encouraged Ghanaians to use the country’s strong community, cultural and religious networks as tools for healing rather than stigmatisation.

Ms Jahara M. Osman, Founder of the Premier Rehabilitation Centre and Convener of MHF 2025, in her welcome address, said the event was birthed out of a personal desire to create space for honest conversations around mental health.

Sharing her experience of living with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), she described as challenging having to navigate life with a neurodivergent condition in a society that often misunderstood such experiences.

“For a long time, I thought the chaos in my brain was normal. I only realised how calm the world could be after receiving my first dose of treatment. That is when I knew I had been surviving, not living,” she said.

Ms Osman said mental health was not always a disease but a form of neurodiversity that required understanding and support rather than judgment.

She called for increased awareness, particularly among parents in rural communities, to recognise early signs of neurodevelopmental conditions such as ADHD and autism in children.

“If I, born in Kumasi into a relatively privileged home, struggled to get help, how much more someone in a deprived village in Bawku? We must educate our mothers because they see the signs before anyone else does,”she added.

Ms Osman expressed concern over the mental health struggles among students and the elderly, highlighting conditions such as depression, anxiety, and Alzheimer’s,which often went unaddressed.

The MHF 2025, Ghana’s pioneering national event dedicated to mental wellness, is organised by the Premier Rehabilitation Centre to elevate the conversation around mental health, break stigma, and bridge the gap between awareness and action.

The Forum offered a brave space for open dialogue, expert insight, personal storytelling, and collective healing.

Its objectives include raising awareness of mental health realities in Ghana, promoting education and tools for wellness, fostering open dialogue and collaboration among stakeholders, and empowering youth voices.

It also aims to support access to mental health services through post-event outreach programmes.

BUDDING Ghanaian musician Mickey Lux has heaped praises on Dancehall artiste Stonebwoy, crediting him as a major inspiration for young acts in the music industry.

Mickey Lux expressed his admiration for Stonebwoy’s contributions to the Ghanaian music scene, highlighting his role in using his grass to grace music story to encourage and pave the way for younger artistes.

In an interview with Graphic Showbiz on Monday, May 26, Mickey Lux mentioned that he has been a great admirer of Stonebwoy and his greatest wish would be to be mentored by him.

“Stonebwoy is the biggest inspiration for young acts. He has shown us that with hard work, dedication and a clear vision, we can achieve greatness in this industry.”

“Beyond music, I equally admire Stonebwoy’s personality, leadership and influence in the music industry,” he said.

He stated that being mentored by Stonebwoy would be a dream come true, because he sees him as the perfect role model for young artistes seeking to build a sustainable and influential career.

“We all saw his humble beginnings and how, for over a decade and a half, he is still running in the top spot of Ghana’s music. It’s not easy to be adjudged Artiste of the Year of the Ghana Music Awards 10 years after wearing the title.

“Stonebwoy won it in 2015, repeated the feat in 2024 and was in contention for it again this year. That’s what consistency is all about and having him as a mentor will really shape my career path as an up-and-coming artiste,” he said.

When asked if he’s made any attempt to reach out to his idol, he told Graphic Showbiz he was at the moment focused on picking inspiration from Stonebwoy from afar to build his own brand and when there was the need to reach out for further guidance, he would gladly do so. (Read Mastering stagecraft is crucial for success – DJ Ashmen advises young artists)

“Artistes are constantly evolving. Right now, my team and I are concentrating on establishing me as an Afrobeat artiste. However, when the time comes for me to transition into Dancehall, that’s when I’ll make the move to connect with Stonebwoy,” he added.

Signed to BKC Music, Mickey Lux, who is label mates with Kweku Flick, announced his presence on the music scene with his maiden song, Aye, in 2023. Just like every young artiste, he craved for attention and it appears that expectation was met when a video of Burna Boy saying he was in love with his talent and wished to see him went viral.

Mickey Lux said even though he couldn’t confirm the authenticity of the said video, he gained more followers and boosted his music at the time.

“That Burna Boy video brought me some attention. I noticed my numbers started climbing up, and I received unexpected calls from media houses,” he said.

Mickey Lux, real name, Michael Owusu Frimpong, began his music career after senior high school and has since dropped songs including Aye, Soja and Only You. Even though he isn’t a household name yet, he admits the growing attention is mentally stressful sometimes.

About 50 fishmongers plying their trade at the Kpong Fishing Harbour in the Lower Manya Krobo Municipality of the Eastern Region have benefited from the Youth and Women Empowerment (YOWE)’s financial literacy campaign.

The initiative is aimed at empowering them to cultivate the habit of financial management, savings, and cost reduction to enhance their financial security.

The engagement saw leaders of YOWE, including its Executive Director, Mr. Emmanuel Nuetey Siakwa, the Board Chairperson, and Mr. Daniel Alimo (Technical Advisor), educate traders on financial management and savings that would help sustain their businesses.

The STAR-Ghana Foundation funded project under the theme: “Action for Voice, Influence and Inclusive Development (AVID -2)”, was designed to sensitize and educate women on the need to develop savings and investment habits for long-term financial security.

YOWE, as part of its contractual agreement with STAR-Ghana Foundation, under the AVID-2, seeks yo engage women groups, including market women associations, and women fishmongers and PWD groups in the two project districts for the 18-month period.

The Kpong fishmongers, like other professional businesses, sometimes struggle with unexpected expenses due to a lack of savings and investments.

As part of efforts to avoid this situation, Mr. Emmanuel Siakwa urged the fishmongers to cultivate saving habits and increase their savings year in, year out, stressing that developing financial discipline will safeguard against future uncertainties.

He underscored the need to save irrespective of how small their income levels are.

The Executive Director explained the several benefits that come with saving in the bank, including interest accruing on the capital, access to loans, being safe from unnecessary expenditures, and keeping their funds from risks such as theft and fire.

Though some of the fishmongers were currently saving individually, those yet to do this were highly encouraged to ensure that they open accounts with financial institutions of their choice to enable them to save.

At the end of the engagement, all participants overwhelmingly confirmed that they have been equipped with the requisite knowledge and practical skills to save to enhance their businesses for improved livelihoods.

The participants at the end of the engagement expressed gratitude for the valuable insights on savings and investments, adding that they are committed to applying the knowledge and skills gained to ensure financial stability.

‘Celebrating a lot of mediocrity is hurting our industry’ – Stonebwoy

The ‘Jejereje’ hitmaker called for a shift in mentality to propagate positive strides rather than negativity.

‘It was a tsunami we didn’t see coming’ – Catherine Afeku on NPP’s 2024 election defeat

0

The modern gowns for married women feature classic silhouettes infused with modern elements such as intricate embellishments, innovative fabrics, and tailored cuts that enhance different body shapes. This focus on sustainability aligns with the values of many modern women who prioritize responsible fashion choices that reflect their style and values.

In conclusion, the evolution of gown styles for married women reflects a fusion of tradition, sophistication, and modernity. With a growing awareness of sustainability and ethical fashion practices, modern married women are embracing gowns that not only make them look and feel beautiful but also align with their values and beliefs.

Improve service quality by December or face heavy fines – Sam George warns Telcos

0

Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations, Samuel Nartey George, has issued ultimatum to Ghana’s mobile network operators, warning them to significantly improve the quality of their services by December 31, 2025, or face severe financial penalties — a portion of which will directly compensate affected customers.

The warning came during a high-level meeting held on Friday, May 30, 2025, with the chief executive officers and technical teams of the country’s major telecom providers — MTN, Telecel, and AT. The minister criticised the persistent poor service experienced by subscribers, particularly in expanding urban centres and key regional towns, despite significant infrastructure investments.

“We are not doing sentiments. We are doing engineering,” Sam George said, adding “If you have infrastructure in place but your service is poor, we must begin to take regulatory action.”

The meeting also featured a presentation by the National Communications Authority (NCA) based on a performance assessment in 48 localities across the country. The study, triggered by rising public complaints, measured four key performance indicators: 3G Coverage, Call Setup Time (CST), Mean Opinion Score (MOS) for call quality, and 3G Data Throughput. The findings highlighted worrying inconsistencies in network performance across all three operators.

Sam George, who is also the MP for Ningo-Prampram, cited problematic areas such as Amasaman and East Legon, where service quality has dropped despite wider network coverage. He noted that parts of Accra are experiencing network “blackouts” and substandard 4G performance.

A nationwide service quality test, covering all district capitals, is expected to be conducted by the NCA in the third quarter of 2025. Based on its findings, the government will take “decisive action” if no significant improvements are seen.

In a major policy shift, the minister announced that 40% of any fines imposed on non-compliant telecom companies will go directly to affected customers, likely through data or call-time bonuses.

In the short term, operators have until June 30, 2025, to complete the acceptance process for newly allocated spectrum. They are expected to begin deploying this spectrum immediately, with visible improvements in service by the end of December.

“We know you can’t complete upgrades in three months, but we must see that the process has begun. The Ghanaian people must feel the impact of the spectrum rollout by the end of this year,” Sam George said.

In response, telecom executives laid out their strategies to address service quality concerns:

  • MTN Ghana CEO Stephen Blewett revealed that the company had invested $230 million in 2024 to strengthen its network and IT systems. Plans include launching 300 new franchise outlets, hiring 400 new staff, and rolling out secure self-service tools for SIM swaps and PIN resets.

  • Telecel Ghana COO Mohamad Ghaddar emphasised continuous network optimisation and customer service improvements. The company has over 400 retail shops and plans to add 100 more. Ghaddar also reaffirmed support for customers with special needs and welcomed regulatory engagement.

  • AT CEO Leo Skarlatos said significant network upgrades are underway and should be “clearly visible” by the first quarter of 2026. He invited stakeholders to witness the improvements early next year.

Beyond service delivery, the Minister also addressed the issue of data pricing. He recalled the formation of a committee in February 2025 tasked with crafting a strategy for gradual reductions in data costs. The focus, he explained, would be on offering more value to consumers rather than immediate price drops, in order to protect market stability and ongoing infrastructure investments.

The minister’s directive marks a bold new phase of regulatory oversight, aimed at ensuring that telcos deliver reliable, high-quality services that meet the demands of Ghana’s growing digital economy.

Ghana’s Agri-SMEs get boost with Bridge-in Agriculture Programme

0

By Jibril Abdul Mumuni

Accra, May 31, GNA- The Mastercard Foundation, in collaboration with CrossBoundary Advisory, has launched the Bridge-in Agriculture Programme, an initiative designed to provide loans at lower interest rates for Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs) in agriculture.

The programme aims to offer loans to agricultural SMEs at a maximum interest rate of 7 per cent, significantly lower than the prevailing rate of 35 per cent offered by commercial banks.

The agricultural-focused programme was launched in Accra and included an exhibition and success stories from partners such as Tropical Snacks, Gustav Restaurant, and Wobil Technologies.

Ms Fanta Code, Managing Director of CrossBoundary Advisory, stated that SMEs in Ghana’s agriculture sector faced major obstacles, including a lack of finance, volatility, and insufficient credit history.

She highlighted that although agriculture contributed 20 per cent of Ghana’s Gross Domestic Product and employed 40 per cent of the population, the sector received only 10 per cent of the total financing, approximately $2 billion.

Ms Code noted that the situation underscored the significant financing gap within the agriculture sector, leaving SMEs with substantial financial challenges.

According to Miss Code the Bridge-in Agriculture programme was designed to incentivise banks for a five-year period to lend to agriculture and adjacent sectors.

“While specifically targeting underserved populations, with the hope that after five years, banks will continue lending to these sectors based on the experience, learnings, and relationships gathered through the programme,” she said.

She said through Bridge, several banks were receiving zero per cent interest repayable loans from the Mastercard Foundation.

Ms Code added that Bridge-in Agriculture Programme aimed to achieve a bold and ambitious target of impacting 400,000 young people, 70 per cent of whom would be women.

Mr. John Dumelo, Deputy Minister of Agriculture, said the programme aligned deeply with the Ministry’s agenda and the Feed Ghana Programme.

The Programme sought to ensure year-round production, improve productivity, and scale food systems resilience.

He said the Bridge-in Agriculture Programme complemented these efforts by directly targeting the structural bottlenecks that limited agricultural productivity, particularly access to affordable capital and technical skills.

The Minister, however, emphasised that despite these prospects and initiatives, players in the agriculture sector must explore how to address the financing gap.

He said the Programme represented not just an intervention but a strategic breakthrough, allocating $87 million through partner banks to support agribusiness.

From Morocco to Botswana – Africans turn to trusted media and experts for climate change information

0

As the effects of climate change become more visible across Africa, people are turning to trusted sources to understand what is happening and what they can do.

In Egypt, both international and national media are trusted equally. Citizens also rely heavily on scientists and universities to get clear and honest information about climate change.

In South Africa, local media is the most trusted source. However, many South Africans also believe in information coming from international media and educational institutions.

Moroccans show a strong preference for international sources. They trust international media more than their local media. They also believe more in international scientists and international NGOs than in their local ones.

In Botswana, people get their climate change information from both local and international media. At the same time, nearly half of the population also turns to schools and universities to learn more.

The trend shows that across Africa, people want facts and trustworthy information about climate change. Whether from the media, scientists, or schools, the goal is the same — to understand the climate crisis and find ways to protect their communities and environment.

The findings were contained in a survey done online which asked people what they think about climate change, how concerned they are about the environment, and whether they support climate solutions. It also tested people’s awareness of methane emissions — a powerful greenhouse gas that causes about 30% of global warming since the Industrial Revolution.

The survey was commissioned by the Global Methane Hub to understand public support for cutting methane pollution. Methane comes from oil and gas, landfills, and livestock, and reducing it is one of the fastest ways to slow down climate change.

USA, other parts of the world, also look to local media for climate change information

In the United States, many people first get climate information from local or national media. However, more than 20% of Americans say they do not get any climate change information at all.

In Britain, people trust local and national media first, followed by British scientists.

The French mainly listen to French media, but many also turn to NGOs – both local and international – for updates on climate issues.

In Germany, people rely on both local and international media, as well as scientists. But they trust local community leaders and international leaders less when it comes to climate information.

In Argentina, almost everyone (92%) is getting climate information, mostly from local media, which they prefer over international outlets.

Brazilians also prefer local news over international sources when learning about climate change, by a big difference of 18 percentage points.

In Colombia, over a third of the people get their climate updates from international NGOs, showing they are open to hearing messages from global groups.

In Mexico, people use both local and international media about equally, making them more open to global media messages than other Latin American countries.

In the Middle East, people in Oman mostly trust international and local media for their climate information.

In Asia, people in Indonesia also turn to local and international media. They also trust scientists and schools.

In the Philippines, the most trusted sources are local media and schools. Filipinos were the most likely to say they learn about climate change in school.

In Kazakhstan, two out of five people get climate information from local and international media.

In Pakistan, most people use local and national media, but about one-third also listen to local scientists.

What This Means

The findings show that while people in different countries trust different sources, most are using local media to learn about climate change. In most places, local media remains the most important way for people to receive climate information. They also show that people are ready to take action, especially when they understand how methane reduction can protect their communities and the planet.

But as global warming affects every country, it’s also important for international organizations, scientists, and schools to work together to share clear and honest information.

‘I never planned to be a politician’

0

Minister of Gender, Children and Social Protection, Agnes Naa Momo Lartey Minister of Gender, Children and Social Protection, Agnes Naa Momo Lartey

The Minister of Gender, Children, and Social Protection, Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, has recounted how she unexpectedly found herself in politics, attributing her journey to divine orchestration and community influence.

Speaking in a recent interview with Joy News, she admitted that politics was never part of her plans.

“If it is not divine orchestration, then I will say that I stumbled on it. It was not something I planned for. Sometimes, people who know me from the past express their surprised over the fact that I ventured into politics. They never anticipated that I would be associated with politics, because I was an introvert when I was growing up,” the Member of Parliament for Krowor said.

Recounting her journey in politics, she stated that it all started with her involvement in church outreaches and charitable works.

As a devoted member of the Assemblies of God Church, she said her activities in the Christian and civil society spaces eventually led her to coastal communities, where she worked closely with fishmongers.

It was during this period that her life took an unexpected turn.

“I was teaching them about leadership. We were having a modular training program on women’s leadership. Then the opportunity came for me to serve as a Chief Executive… They said, ‘You’ve been teaching us that we can start from the local government level, and there is this opportunity, so we want you to go so that we know it is doable.’ That completely threw me a curveball,” she recalled.

Faced with the choice to step up or risk disappointing the very women she had inspired, Agnes Naa Momo Lartey embraced the challenge and entered the race for the position.

“I also knew it was a challenge. If I don’t take it and go for it or even try, they were going to get discouraged. So, I took on the challenge and contested. They were with me throughout. I mean, they never left me. Sometimes they would go with me,” she said.

Although she did not secure the appointment at the time, due to her perceived lack of partisan visibility, she took the outcome in stride.

The panel believed they needed someone who was more immersed in the political structure and well-versed in the dynamics at the local level.

“I didn’t feel bad. I took it in good faith but after subsequent attempts they realised that I had pushed enough and gave me the nod,” she said.

‘Start planting cocoa’ – Mahama rallies support for sector overhaul

0

President John Dramani Mahama President John Dramani Mahama

President John Dramani Mahama has announced a major initiative to revive Ghana’s cocoa sector by expanding cultivation by 200,000 hectares, promising incentives for farmers and a renewed national focus on agriculture.

“Plans are underway to revamp the collapsed cocoa sector. Incentives will be provided to our hardworking farmers to increase cocoa production. We aim to add 200,000 hectares of cocoa to Ghana’s output to increase the income of our farmers,” President Mahama declared.

“He also issued a call to action for citizens to take part in the drive: “So those of you who do not have cocoa farms, go and start looking for land and start planting cocoa,” he added.

The announcement came during a stop in the Ahafo Region on Saturday, May 31, as part of President Mahama’s nationwide ‘Thank You’ tour.

The Thank You tour, which began shortly after his return to office, has taken the president across the country to meet with traditional leaders, farmers, market women, artisans, and local political figures.

While expressing appreciation for the support received during the 2024 elections, Mahama used the opportunity to reassert his commitment to rebuilding key sectors, especially agriculture.

The focus on cocoa in Ahafo—one of Ghana’s key cocoa-producing regions—is part of a broader effort to restore confidence in a sector that has struggled in recent years.

By introducing incentives and expanding access to farmland, the president hopes to reverse declining yields, create jobs, and boost export earnings.

Bawumia arranged sureties for Wontumi’s release – Hassan Tampuli

0

The Member of Parliament for Gushegu and Deputy Minister for Transport, Hassan Tampuli, has made claims that former Vice-President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia arranged for the sureties that secured the release of Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi.

He was speaking on JoyNews’ Newsfile on Saturday, May 31.

“Let me put this on record that Dr Bawumia has arranged the sureties for the release of Chairman Wontumi. That has been done. His Excellency Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has made arrangements for the sureties,” he said.

The Ashanti Regional New Patriotic Party(NPP) was arrested earlier this week by the Economic and Organised Crime Office(EOCO).

He was later granted bail of GH¢50 million with two sureties to be justified, a condition party members claim is excessive and politically motivated.

Following initial arrangements to see Chairman Wontumi on Friday, Dr. Bawumia despite being granted access with the Minority Leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin said they couldn’t see him.

Accra Chiefs Demand Probe After ‘Faceless’ Demolition on Reclaimed Lands

Traditional leaders in the communities of Kweiman, Danfa, and Amlenhia in Accra are demanding urgent government action following a mysterious demolition exercise carried out on a disputed parcel of land recently returned to them by the state.

The land, part of the defunct government dairy farm established in the 1960s, was released back to the chiefs following a white paper issued by the previous New Patriotic Party (NPP) administration. The document granted 40 percent of the acquired land—initially taken without compensation—back to the original custodians.

However, tensions have been mounting since the release. The chiefs claim that some individuals, allegedly with connections in government, have been working behind the scenes to reduce their rightful share of the land. To address these concerns, the current administration ordered an audit to bring clarity to the land’s demarcation and usage.

But just three days into the audit process, bulldozers moved in and demolished several structures already developed under the supervision of the chiefs. No court order was presented, and no prior notice was given.

Nii Djanie Tsuru Afutu Brempong IV, Chief of Danfa, expressed shock at the development, describing it as a deliberate act meant to frustrate the audit and dispossess the chiefs of their land.

> “This is not just a demolition. It is a calculated attempt by certain selfish individuals to frustrate the ongoing audit and undermine our rightful claim to the land,” he said.
The chiefs suspect some elders from the neighbouring Oyarifa community may be involved. According to them, these individuals had previously tried to claim portions of the land but were rejected based on official records.

Nii Djani Klu, spokesperson for the chiefs, called on the Inspector General of Police to probe the conduct of officers who supervised the demolition exercise.

> “We have reasons to believe some individuals from Oyarifa orchestrated this. We’re calling on the IGP to investigate the police officers who supervised this illegal act without any court order,” he stated.

Oyarifa Chief’s Office Condemns Demolition

In a swift response, the spokesperson for the Chief of Oyarifa, Nii Worlangoo, distanced the chief from the incident. He clarified that only one family from Oyarifa acted independently and that the chief neither sanctioned nor supported the exercise.

> “This action was not sanctioned by the Oyarifa chief. It was carried out by just one family, acting on their own. We condemn the demolition and any act that seeks to disrupt the peaceful relations between our communities,” Nii Worlangoo stated.
As of the time of filing this report, the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources has not issued a public statement on the matter.

I’m the Messi of the NPP

0

Former Communications Director for Ghana Gas Company, Ernest Owusu Bempah Former Communications Director for Ghana Gas Company, Ernest Owusu Bempah

Former Communications Director for Ghana Gas and leader of the Fixing the Country Movement, Mr. Ernest Owusu Bempah, has declared himself the “Messi of the NPP”.

He has insisted that no one in the New Patriotic Party (NPP) can rise to the presidency without his support.

“I’m not saying I’m God, and I’m not bragging,” he stated during a recent interview on Oyerepa FM/TV.

“But I have a certain grace, a gift, that makes me indispensable in the NPP. Nobody — and I mean nobody — can become president in this country on the ticket of the NPP without my blessing,” he stated.

His comments come at a time when the NPP is still healing from the political heat of its 2024 primaries, which saw a fierce contest between Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and outspoken MP for Assin Central, Kennedy Agyapong.

The two heavyweights locked horns in one of the keenly contested internal elections in the party’s history, a showdown that left clear factions within the party base.

While Dr. Bawumia eventually emerged as the NPP’s Flagbearer, Kennedy Agyapong’s strong grassroots support and unapologetic campaign style shook the very foundation of the party, making unity a pressing issue heading into the December 2024 general elections.

In the midst of this, Owusu Bempah’s claims appear to stake a spiritual and strategic authority over the party’s fate.

“If anyone doubts what I’m saying, they should check with the spiritual realm. I am not just talking — this is a reality people don’t understand,” he added.

Known for his fiery rhetoric and loyalty to the NPP, Bempah’s recent remarks will likely spark debate within the party, particularly among supporters of both Bawumia and Agyapong, many of whom are still nursing wounds from the primaries.

Ahmed Musa Marries Fourth Wife, Moriki In Kano

Super Eagles star Ahmed Musa has reportedly married for the fourth time, tying the knot with Asmau Moriki in a private ceremony held in Kano State.

The wedding, which remained low-key and away from public attention, marks another chapter in the personal life of the Nigerian international, who is well-known not just for his football prowess but also for his dynamic personal journey.

Musa, 31, began his marital journey in 2013 when he married Jamila. Their union, however, ended in 2017 after four years and produced two children. Not long after his divorce, he married Juliet Ejue, a native of Ogoja in Cross River State. Despite a promising start, that relationship also ended after a few years.

In 2021, the former Leicester City and CSKA Moscow forward entered his third marriage with Mariam, which was celebrated in a quiet ceremony attended by family and close friends.

Now, with his marriage to Asmau Moriki, Musa has added a fourth chapter to his marital history. Although details about his new bride remain scarce, the wedding has generated conversations on social media, with fans expressing a mix of congratulatory messages and curiosity.

Throughout his career, Musa has maintained a reputation for being deeply religious and family-oriented. Despite the ups and downs in his personal life, he remains one of Nigeria’s most respected footballers, having captained the national team and featured prominently in multiple FIFA World Cup tournaments.

Beyond football, Musa is also a philanthropist and entrepreneur. He owns several businesses, including a sports center and fuel station in Kano. His off-field achievements, coupled with his on-field contributions, have made him a prominent figure in Nigerian sports.

PSG vs Inter Milan LIVE: Champions League final score, radio & live updates

0

  • This is the first ever competitive meeting between Inter and Paris SG. It’s also the second European Cup/UEFA Champions League final between an Italian and a French side, after Marseille beat Milan 1-0 in 1993 – the only time a French side has ever won the trophy. That final was also held in Munich.

  • This is Inter’s seventh appearance in the European Cup/UEFA Champions League final, winning the trophy three times (1964, 1965 and 2010). They did lose their last final match, going down 1-0 against Manchester City in 2023.

  • This is Paris SG’s second ever appearance in the European Cup/UEFA Champions League final, losing 1-0 against Bayern Munich in 2019-20 previously. They remain the last French side to win a major European trophy – the 1995-96 UEFA Cup Winners’ Cup.

  • French clubs have only won two of their 15 major European finals: one out of seven in European Cup/UEFA Champions League, one out of three in UEFA Cup Winners’ Cup and none in five attempts in UEFA Cup/UEFA Europa League.

  • This will be the fifth European Cup/UEFA Champions League final to be held in Munich. The victors in each of the previous four were winning the trophy for the very first time, a run Paris SG will seek to continue (Nottingham Forest in 1979, Marseille in 1993, Borussia Dortmund in 1997, Chelsea in 2012).

  • Internazionale have scored 26 UEFA Champions League goals this season; their joint most ever in a major European season, also scoring 26 in 2002-03. They’ve scored two or more goals in all six knockout games and could be the third side to score 2+ goals in every knockout game including the final in a season, along with Real Madrid in 1959-60 (7 games) and Milan in 1993-94 (2 games).

  • This season has seen Paris SG both win their most games (10) and score their most goals (33) in a single major European campaign. They’ve also registered their most shots per game (18.6) in a UEFA Champions League season on record since 2003-04.

  • Internazionale have trailed for just 1.2% of their UEFA Champions League matches this season, falling behind in three games but never for more than 370 seconds in any of them – 285 seconds against Bayer Leverkusen in December, 370 against Bayern Munich in April and 343 against Barcelona in May. They’ve also spent the highest percentage of their time winning (50.8%).

  • Only Atlético Madrid (43.5%) have handed a higher share of minutes to players aged 30+ in the UEFA Champions League this season than Internazionale (43.3%), whose 6,151 minutes by players aged 30+ is the most by a team since Juventus in 2016-17 (6,186). All of the 1,350 minutes Paris SG have given to players aged 30 or over has been by just one player, Marquinhos.

  • Paris SG have currently played the fourth-most games (167) without ever winning the European Cup/UEFA Champions League since it began in 1955, behind Arsenal (211), Dynamo Kyiv (185) and Atlético Madrid (176). A win in this game would see them have the most games before winning their first trophy, with Man City the current most on 116 before they won their 117th game in the final against Inter in 2023.

  • Internazionale manager Simone Inzaghi lost the 2023 UEFA Champions League final and is looking to avoid becoming the ninth manager to lose two or more finals. The only two managers to lose their first final but win their second are Fabio Capello (lost 1993, won 1994) and Thomas Tuchel (lost 2020, won 2021).

  • Paris SG manager Luis Enrique – who won the UEFA Champions League in 2015 with Barcelona – is looking to become the sixth manager to win the trophy with two different clubs, along with Carlo Ancelotti (Milan, Real Madrid), Ottmar Hitzfeld (Borussia Dortmund, Bayern Munich), Jupp Heynckes (Real Madrid, Bayern Munich), José Mourinho (Porto and Inter) and Pep Guardiola (Barcelona and Man City).

  • João Neves has applied the most high-intensity pressures to opponents in this season’s UEFA Champions League (824), while he’s also made 57 tackles for Paris SG. On record since 2006-07, the only players to make more in a season are Gennaro Gattuso (64 in 2006-07, 59 in 2007-08) and Javier Mascherano (70 in 2007-08).

  • Paris SG midfielder Vitinha has completed the most passes under high-intensity pressure from opponents (665) in this season’s UEFA Champions League. He’s also completed the most passes overall (1,222), with only Xavi in 2012-13 (1,299) and 2010-11 (1,244) ever completing more in a season on record since 2003-04.

  • Internazionale’s Francesco Acerbi – who scored their crucial late equaliser in the semi-final against Barcelona – could be the fourth oldest outfield player to start a UEFA Champions League final (37 years, 110 days), behind Paolo Maldini for Milan in 2007 (38 years, 331 days), Lothar Matthäus for Bayern Munich in 1999 (38 years, 66 days) and Ryan Giggs for Man Utd in 2011 (37 years, 180 days).

  • Ousmane Dembélé has been directly involved in 12 UEFA Champions League goals this season (8 goals, 4 assists); the most ever by a Paris SG player in one campaign, while only Zlatan Ibrahimovic in 2013-14 (10) has scored more.

  • Internazionale’s Lautaro Martínez has scored in the last 16, quarter-final and semi-final of this season’s UEFA Champions League. Only five players have scored in those stages plus the final in one season – Frank Lampard in 2007-08, Diego Milito in 2009-10, Lionel Messi in 2010-11, Cristiano Ronaldo in 2013-14 and Sadio Mané in 2017-18. He’s also aiming to become the first Inter player with 10 goals in a major European season (currently nine).

  • In this season’s UEFA Champions League, the most line-breaking passes from one player to another while breaking a defensive line have been from Paris SG’s Ousmane Dembélé to Achraf Hakimi (13); six more than any other duo. Dembélé has created 35 chances this season, the most by a French player since Jerome Rothen in 2003-04 (45), while Hakimi’s 34 chances created is the most by an African player on record (since 2003-04).

  • Only two players have completed more passes in this season’s UEFA Champions League than PSG captain Marquinhos (1,051), who featured in the 2020 final defeat to Bayern Munich. The final could be his 107th appearance in the competition, with only Gianluigi Buffon and Zlatan Ibrahimovic (124 each) playing more games in Champions League history without winning the trophy.

  • Based on the quality of shots on target faced (using xG), Internazionale’s Yann Sommer has prevented more goals than any other goalkeeper in the UEFA Champions League this season (+5.9 – 10 goals conceded from 15.9 xG on target faced, excluding own goals).

  • ‘EOCO’s treatment of Wontumi an abuse of power reminiscent of junta era’

Ghana’s mining sector posts record GH₵17.7bn revenue in 2024

    0

Ghana’s mining sector contributed a record GH₵17.7 billion in revenue to the government in 2024, marking a 51.2% increase from GH₵11.7 billion in 2023, according to the Ghana Chamber of Mines.

Dividends paid to the state soared by over 600%, reaching GH₵1.03 billion, highlighting the sector’s growing role as a cornerstone of domestic revenue generation.

Speaking at the Chamber’s 97th Annual General Meeting, President of the Chamber, Edem Michael Akafia, revealed that the mining industry’s contribution to domestic revenue rose from 8.8% to 9.6%, adding that its share of total government revenue increased from 8.6% in 2023 to 9.5% in 2024.

“This upturn boosted the mining sector’s share of direct domestic taxes from 22.7% in 2023 to 24.3% in 2024,” Akafia noted.

He noted that mineral royalties also experienced substantial growth, climbing by 76.7% from GH₵2.8 billion in 2023 to GH₵4.9 billion in 2024.

“This reflects the rise in gross mineral sales, on which royalty payments are assessed. Consequently, royalties’ share of the sector’s total fiscal contributions rose from 23.7% in 2023 to 27.7% in 2024,” he added.

Meanwhile, the Chief Director at the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources, Innocent Haligah, urged stakeholders in the mining industry to collaborate with the Ghana Gold Board to promote a safer mining environment.

“The Gold Board has been established as part of efforts to address challenges in the sector. Beyond regulation, it symbolizes the value of our national currency, and we expect all stakeholders to work together to ensure a safe and responsible mining environment,” he stated.

Haligah also stressed the need to focus on strategic areas such as local content development, where the majority of mining sector employees are Ghanaians, and the promotion of value addition to mineral resources.

    0

The Ghana Eastern Naval Command has welcomed the Brazilian Navy’s Guinex V Defender, a frigate-class warship, as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen maritime security and foster naval cooperation between Ghana and Brazil.

The vessel, which docked at the Port of Tema on Saturday, May 31 2025, will remain in Ghanaian waters for four days.

The visit is part of a broader initiative aimed at enhancing training opportunities for Ghanaian naval officers, particularly in combating piracy, illegal fishing, and other maritime threats in the Gulf of Guinea and beyond.

The arrival of the 48-year-old Guinex V Defender underscores the shared commitment of both nations to improving operational capabilities, supporting state-led maritime efforts, and deepening diplomatic ties through naval collaboration.

Described as a sports-class frigate with advanced self-defense systems, the Guinex V Defender is equipped to operate in high-threat environments and defend itself against external attacks.

During its stay, joint military exercises will be conducted to improve operational coordination, strengthen bilateral relations, and facilitate the exchange of best practices in maritime defense.

In an interview with the media, the Brazilian Ambassador to Ghana, Her Excellency Mariana Madeira, said the vessel’s arrival represents a significant step in strengthening ties between the two countries.

“It means a lot to strengthen the ties between our countries because it’s naval diplomacy. Through this ship, we are actually in Ghana in a floating embassy. We expect that this exercise, Guinex V, will bring our countries together through themes like security in the Gulf of Guinea, capacity building of our navies, and dialogue between the two sides,” she noted.

For his part, the Commanding Officer of the Guinex V Defender, Awmeida Matos, highlighted the importance of training Ghanaian naval officers to enhance safety at sea.

Goldbod is already doing wonders – Mahama praises CEO Sammy Gyamfi

    0

President John Mahama has praised the CEO of the Ghana GoldBoard (Goldbod), Sammy Gyamfi, for what he describes as an impressive start to the new institution’s operations.

The Ghana GoldBoard, formerly known as the Precious Minerals Marketing Company (PMMC), was officially launched on April 2, 2025, with a mandate to oversee and regulate gold trading activities in the country.

Barely weeks into its establishment, the Goldbod has reportedly made significant strides, achieving results that President Mahama has hailed as remarkable.

“Mr. Sammy Gyamfi is the Chief Executive of the Ghana Goldbod that is doing wonders already,” the President said while introducing the NDC National Communications Officer during a speech in the Ahafo Region as part of his national “Thank You” tour.

There has been a wave of public support and commendation for Mr Gyamfi, with many attributing the recent appreciation of the cedi in part to Goldbod’s performance under his leadership.

The local currency, which reached a high of nearly GH¢16 to the US dollar last year, has now appreciated to around GH¢10 to the dollar.

This development has been met with widespread optimism among citizens and market observers.

Meanwhile, the Governor of the Bank of Ghana, Dr Johnson Asiama, has reiterated the central bank’s commitment to sustaining the cedi’s rebound.

He emphasised ongoing efforts to strengthen the local currency and maintain its competitiveness against major global currencies

Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and Dr Mahamudu Bawumia at the funeral Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and Dr Mahamudu Bawumia at the funeral

Former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo on Thursday joined thousands of mourners at the final funeral rights of the late Paramount Chief of the Mion Traditional Area of Dagbon, Mionlana Abdulai Mahamadu at Mion in the Northern Region.

The ex-President was accompanied by the former Vice President and 2024 Flagbearer, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, 2024 Running Mate, Dr Mathew Opoku Prempeh, former Finance Minister, Adam Mohammed Amin, and former NPP Members of Parliament to bid farewell to the late traditional ruler.

His visit to mourn with the King and people of Dagbon further deepened his relationship with the Dagbon Kingdom, where he was also enskinned as the Dagbon Malti-Naa for his role in the restoration of peace, after decades of the protracted Abudu and Andani chieftaincy conflict of Dagbon.

A powerful delegation of Abudu Chiefs led by the Paramount Chief of Karaga, Kari Naa Nantogmah Abdulai, visited the former President at his Nima residence in Accra, to formally inform him about the funeral a few weeks ago.

Mionlana Abdulai was enskinned by Ndan Ya-Naa Abukari II after the performance of the funeral of his father, Ya Naa Mahamadu IV, in January 2019.

Born in 1974, the late Mionlana was enskinned as the Boling-Lana at the age of 14, after the passing of his father, the late Yaa Naa Mahamadu Abdulai IV.

He was enskinned as Mion Lana on March 3, 2019, by Ya Naa Abukari II, following the successful implementation of the Dagbon peace pact in January 2019.

As Mionlana, Naa Abdulai was one of three Princes of Dagbon who were in line to succeed Ndan Ya Naa Abukari, occupying the Mion gate-skin.

He died in August 2022 at the age of 48.

His funeral was climaxed on Thursday at the Mion palace, where his eldest son and Regent of Mion, Gbanglana Alhassan Abdulai, was ushered by family elders to circumambulate the palace as part of how Dagbon royal funerals are climaxed.

Chiefs and mourners from both the Abudu and Andanis graced the occasion to bid farewell to the Dagbon prince and celebrate his life.
