Bad News to ODM Party, Gladys Wanga as News Details Reveals This about Ann Waiguru and Martha Karua

Waiguru Leads Poll as Wanga Suffers Setback in Ruto Running Mate Race

ODM party national chairperson and Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga has suffered a political setback after a latest online opinion poll placed her behind other prominent female leaders in the race to become President William Ruto’s potential running mate in the 2027 General Election.

According to the poll, Kirinyaga Governor Ann Waiguru emerged as the most preferred female candidate to deputise Ruto, securing 36 per cent support and opening a significant lead over her closest rival.

Waiguru was followed by People’s Liberation Party (PLP) leader Martha Karua, who garnered 27 per cent. Karua served as the running mate to the late Azimio la Umoja presidential candidate Raila Odinga during the 2022 General Election.

Wanga came third in the poll with 15 per cent, trailing Waiguru by 21 percentage points. The results could raise questions about her prospects as she continues to position herself as a potential candidate for the deputy presidency ahead of the 2027 elections.

The poll comes at a time when political parties and leaders are increasingly positioning themselves ahead of the highly anticipated 2027 contest. President Ruto’s potential choice of a running mate is expected to attract considerable attention as he seeks to consolidate his support across different regions and political formations.

Wanga has previously expressed interest in the possibility of ODM producing the country’s next Deputy President under a potential political arrangement with Ruto. She has argued that the time had come for ODM to secure the country’s second-highest office.

Her position has also emerged amid continued political realignments involving ODM leaders and the Kenya Kwanza administration.

However, the latest online poll suggests that Wanga still has significant ground to cover if she hopes to emerge as the preferred female candidate for Ruto’s running mate.

With the 2027 elections approaching, the political landscape remains fluid, and the popularity of potential running mates could change as parties negotiate alliances and leaders intensify their campaigns.

The poll, however, represents online opinion and should not necessarily be interpreted as a definitive prediction of Ruto’s eventual running-mate choice.
