Suspect arrested after pedestrian killed in hit-and-run

One person is dead and another in custody after a fatal hit-and-run in Polk County.

According to the Wisconsin State Patrol, a pedestrian was killed shortly after 7:30 p.m. Saturday night on Highway 8 at Highway 35 near Centuria, just west of Balsam Lake.

Crews responded to the area and found a 65-year-old man from Luck dead at the scene.

Investigators believe the man was trying to cross Highway 8 when a westbound driver hit him and fled the scene.

Further investigation led deputies to a vehicle of interest at a home in Burnett County, where one person was taken into custody.

That suspect’s name has not been released, nor has the victim’s.

The Wisconsin State Patrol is still investigating the crash.
