For a landlocked country, Uganda once had a railway that did not end at the shoreline.At Port Bell and Jinja, railway tracks ran to the waters, allowing railway wagons to be loaded onto ferries and transported across Lake Victoria to Mwanza in Tanzania and Kisumu in Kenya, where cargo rejoined railway networks leading to Dar es Salaam and Mombasa.
