The late Zimbabwean businessman Sir Wicknell Chivayo is reportedly set to be laid to rest in a luxurious, Malaysian-made 14-carat gold coffin valued at US$217,000 (approximately KSh 28 million).

His uncle noted that the family cannot proceed without them and is hoping at least half will arrive by Sunday.

“We can’t do this without them, so we have to make sure that we respect them as well,” he said. Both of Chivayo’s biological parents are deceased, and his uncle, the youngest brother of his late father, has stepped in to coordinate arrangements and speak for the family publicly. Four potential burial sites are being considered: Gandami, Rusha, Farm Number 513, and Glenforest. No decision on the location has been made yet and will only be finalised once the family has gathered.

The development means that funeral arrangements could take longer than initially anticipated as authorities and the families await the completion of the scientific identification process.Six killed in Marondera helicopter crash

Chivayo, his wife Lucy and the other four occupants were killed when their helicopter crashed in the Marondera area.

The incident has drawn widespread attention in Zimbabwe, where Chivayo was a prominent businessman known for his high-profile lifestyle, philanthropy and connections to prominent political figures.
