Don’t Envy Our Huge Pay, Don’t Equate Yourself With Us, Go And Negotiate Yours – Kanayo To Gh Actors

According to a report by The BBC Ghana today being Sunday, October 4, 2026, Veteran Nigerian actor Kanayo O. Kanayo has advised Ghanaian actors against comparing their earnings with the fees commanded by some of their counterparts in Nigeria’s Nollywood industry.

The respected actor made the remarks while speaking in Nzulezu, where he addressed discussions surrounding the differences in remuneration between actors in Ghana and Nigeria.

According to Kanayo, Ghanaian actors should not spend their energy envying the amount of money Nigerian actors receive for their roles.

Instead, he encouraged actors in Ghana to concentrate on building their own industry and negotiating better financial arrangements for themselves.

He suggested that rather than comparing their earnings with those of Nollywood stars, Ghanaian actors should focus on improving their bargaining power and securing deals that properly reflect the value of their work.

Kanayo’s comments have generated conversations among entertainment followers, with some using his remarks to examine the differences between Ghana’s film industry and Nollywood. The issue of remuneration has remained a subject of interest among actors and other professionals within the African movie industry, particularly regarding the commercial opportunities available to performers in different markets.

The veteran actor is currently in Ghana as part of the cast of A Journey to Africa (Nzulezu), an epic movie linked to Ghanaian actor and filmmaker Kwadwo Nkansah LilWin.

His presence in Ghana has further brought attention to the collaboration between actors and filmmakers from the two countries. The production is expected to showcase talents from Ghana and Nigeria while highlighting the cultural and entertainment connections between the two nations.

Kanayo’s remarks have consequently added another dimension to discussions about how actors can improve their earnings and strengthen the African film industry.
