FIGHTING KAHINDA IN HIS RUHINDA HOME: Muhoozi’s PLU Plans Rally in Otafiire’s Kashenshero Town as Mawanda Labels Him Hitler
The political confrontation between Chief of Defence Forces Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba and Water and Environment Minister Maj Gen (Rtd) Kahinda Otafiire has drawn fresh support from leaders of the Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU), with one of the organisation’s mobilisers declaring readiness to confront the minister.
Michael Mawanda, the Igara East MP and PLU director of mobilisation, launched a scathing attack on Otafiire, accusing him of fighting the political organisation and targeting people loyal to President Yoweri Museveni and his son.
Mawanda’s remarks come amid escalating tensions between Muhoozi, who chairs the PLU, and Otafiire, following a series of public exchanges that have brought their differences into the open.
In his statement, Mawanda accused the minister of greed and land grabbing, while claiming that his political conduct had earned him a controversial nickname among residents of Greater Bushenyi.
“That land grabber and greedy politician is fighting PLU. In greater Bushenyi, people call him Hitler because he fights everyone loyal to the President and to you,” Mawanda said.
He went on to declare the organisation’s readiness to confront Otafiire, framing any criticism or attack directed at Muhoozi as an affront to the entire PLU membership.
“This time we are ready to fight Hon. Otafiire. Any attack on you is an attack on all of us,” he added.
Mawanda’s use of the term “fight” comes against the backdrop of a public dispute involving senior figures with military backgrounds: bush war historical and Minister Otafiire and Museveni’s son Muhoozi. It remains unclear whether his remarks refer strictly to political confrontation or suggest any other form of action.
The latest statements follow Muhoozi’s threats against Otafiire after the minister told Parliament that there was a problem with military generals who preferred violence, remarks widely viewed in the context of the tensions between the two men.
Muhoozi subsequently issued statements threatening to arrest Otafiire, intensifying the public dispute and drawing attention to the unusual spectacle of a serving military chief openly confronting a cabinet minister.
The PLU is also planning political mobilisation activities in Kashenshero, a town in Mitooma District associated with Otafiire, adding a new dimension to the growing confrontation. Otafiire represents Ruhinda county in Mitooma District where Kashenshero is found.
Vocal PLU mobilizer David Kabanda, who was fired from his powerful secretary general job months ago, has dared Otafiire to try to block the rally and face consequences.
“I am going to hold a BIGGEST endorsement rally for General Muhoozi Kainerugaba in Kashenshero the town of Otafiire. Last time he frustrated us. Let him try now. The Bachwezi have directed us to go to Mitooma,” wrote Kabanada, the Executive Secretary office of the National Chairman PLU and Member of Parliament for Kasambya County, Mubende District
Otafiire, for his part, has maintained a defiant public posture. During a recent lecture, he said he would rather die fighting than beg, a statement that underscored his resistance to the pressure surrounding the dispute.
The confrontation has also unfolded alongside previous public clashes involving Muhoozi and other government figures, including presidency minister Milly Babirye Babalanda and junior local government minister Justine Nameere, who both faced criticism and threats before subsequent efforts to ease tensions.
With PLU leaders now openly declaring their support for Muhoozi and directing attacks at Otafiire, the dispute is increasingly extending beyond the two principal figures into the political mobilisation networks surrounding the President’s son.
Meanwhile, Otafiire’s son has sent a clear warning to those threatening to arrest or humiliate his father, even as Otafiire himself made it clear he would beg nobody. (See Details Here and There).
