Pakistan Mission hosted an intimate farewell ceremony in honour of Ambassador Asim Iftikhar

NEW YORK : Permanent Representative of Pakistan to the United Nations, and his family. Officers of the Mission, along with officers of the Consulate General of Pakistan in New York and their families, attended the ceremony.

Speaking on behalf of the officers, Ambassador Usman Jadoon, Deputy Permanent Representative of Pakistan, paid rich tribute to Ambassador Asim Iftikhar Ahmad for his meritorious service to the nation and for representing Pakistan across the UN system with distinction at a consequential time.

He particularly highlighted Ambassador Asim’s mentorship of the Mission’s team, stating that he instilled confidence in his colleagues and empowered them to conduct themselves effectively and perform at their best, particularly during challenging times.

In his remarks, Ambassador Asim Iftikhar Ahmad thanked the officers for arranging the farewell for him and his family. He underscored the importance of team-building and said that he could not have discharged his responsibilities over the past 21 months without the steadfast support of his colleagues.

He expressed pride in having a team of dedicated and capable professionals at the Mission who consistently stepped up to the plate and went beyond the call of duty in the service of Pakistan.

Ambassador Asim said that this was his third stint in New York and that he could not be more grateful for the opportunity and honour of representing Pakistan at the world’s highest multilateral forum. He also thanked the families of Mission officers for their constant support and sacrifices, without which, he noted, officers could not do justice to responsibilities that often require them to work beyond regular office hours and on weekends.

Consul General of Pakistan in New York Aamer Ahmad Atozai also commended Ambassador Asim Iftikhar Ahmad for his leadership and extended his best wishes for his next assignment in Islamabad.

Two video packages were screened on the occasion. The first provided a pictorial recap of Ambassador Asim’s journey since assuming office, while the second featured testimonials from Mission officers highlighting his leadership, mentorship and contributions during his tenure.
