Owusu Bempah Breaks Silence on Bawumia’s 2028 Prophecy

Rev. Isaac Owusu Bempah’s latest comments about the political future of former Vice President and New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer Dr Mahamudu Bawumia have renewed public debate over the role of religious prophecies in Ghana’s politics ahead of the 2028 general election.

According to the Ghana Muslim Forum for Peace and Unity, Owusu Bempah made the latest remarks during a church service in September 2026. The group alleged that the founder of Glorious Word Power Ministry International claimed Bawumia could not become President unless he allowed it.

The forum further alleged that the pastor threatened to spiritually end the political careers of individuals who continued responding to his comments about Bawumia.

The latest remarks follow an earlier statement attributed to Owusu Bempah in which he reportedly declared that Bawumia would not become President while he was alive. He also reportedly warned Ghanaians against supporting the NPP in the 2028 election.

Those comments attracted considerable attention and sparked reactions from political and religious circles, particularly because Bawumia has already secured the NPP’s presidential nomination for the next election.

Bawumia won the NPP’s presidential primary on January 31, 2026, defeating his main competitors and becoming the party’s flagbearer for the 2028 presidential election.

The Ghana Muslim Forum has rejected Owusu Bempah’s claims, insisting that Bawumia’s political future is ultimately determined by God and the constitutional processes of Ghana, rather than by any individual.

The group has also called for religious tolerance and peaceful political discourse, stressing the importance of preserving Ghana’s longstanding Christian-Muslim relations.

The controversy has also revived broader concerns about political prophecies. The Christian Council of Ghana previously expressed concern about conflicting political prophecies surrounding the NPP’s presidential primary and called for responsible and accountable prophetic declarations.

As the 2028 election approaches, Owusu Bempah’s comments are likely to remain part of public discussion. However, his statements are religious claims and do not determine the electoral outcome.

The identity of Ghana’s next president will ultimately be decided through the country’s constitutional electoral process.
