Tarar asks PTI to clarify position on Pakistan-Afghanistan amid terrorism debate

Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar has criticised Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) over what he described as repeated changes in the party’s position, urging its leadership to make clear whether it stood with Pakistan or Afghanistan.

Talking to the media on Sunday, Tarar said PTI leaders were “experts at taking U-turns”, accusing the party of failing to maintain a clear and consistent stance on issues involving national interest.

The minister alleged that PTI was following a “dual policy” and claimed its position effectively provided cover to militants.

Tarar further alleged that the party had benefited from facilities provided by Pakistan while expressing sympathies toward “terrorists.” He said PTI should take an unambiguous position on matters linked to the country’s national interest.

He also claimed that the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government had received Rs700 billion for counterterrorism efforts but had shown limited willingness to take effective measures against militants.

According to Tarar, the provincial government was instead pursuing a policy of protecting terrorists.

The information minister went on to allege that PTI was the “B team” of the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and the “C team” of the Afghan Taliban.

Tarar said the federal government would not permit any attempt to compromise peace and security. He added that protecting the lives and property of people in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and countering terrorism remained among the government’s key priorities.
