SASSA reviews November grant payment dates due to election clash

SASSA is reviewing November social grant payment dates due to a clash with local government elections, while confirming October payout dates and reaffirming that all beneficiaries will receive their grants as scheduled.

The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) says it's reviewing the social grant payment dates for November due to a clash in dates with the local government elections.

Under the original schedule, the Older Persons Grant was set to be paid on November 3, followed by the Disability Grant on November 4 and the Children's Grant on November 5. the 5th.

The elections will be held on November 4. SASSA says it's in consultation with stakeholders on new payment dates.

The agency reaffirmed that beneficiaries will receive their grants.

SASSA has confirmed the payment dates for October, with the first payments due this week.

Here is when beneficiaries can expect their grants:

*Older Persons Grant will be paid on Friday, 2 October.

*Disability Grant will be paid on Monday, 5 October.

*Child Support Grant and other grants linked to the child support payment cycle will be paid on Tuesday, 6 October.

The payment schedule is staggered to help manage the number of beneficiaries accessing their grants at payment points and financial service providers.

Beneficiaries are reminded that they do not need to withdraw their funds on the day they are paid.

Funds will remain available in their accounts until they are needed.

Earlier this year, Social Development Minister Dina Pule committed to reducing pressure at understaffed SASSA offices experiencing long queues.

She said improving service delivery and restoring dignity to social grant beneficiaries are among her immediate priorities.

The minister revealed that more than 1,000 contract workers are being recruited in the country to provide additional frontline support at SASSA offices.

SASSA will also extend operating hours at selected offices to improve access to services.
