‘Political victory is never an entitlement’ – Newly elected NPP National Chairman John Boadu pledges to lead with humility

The newly elected National Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), John Boadu has said “political victory is never an entitlement.”

Rather, he says it must be earned through service, organisation and credibility and the trust of the Ghanaian people.

In a victory and acceptance speech, moments after he was declared winner of the national chairmanship election and sworn into office with all the newly elected executives on Sunday (Oct 4) dawn, Mr Boadu said the preparations for the wayforward “begins now.”

“To those who support us, we thank you for your confidence, to those who contested with us, I extend my hand of friendship and partnership. Your ideas, experience, networks and commitment belongs to the New Patriotic Party. There must be no winners and losers, only one NPP, united around one purpose,” he added.

“We must rebuild from the grassroot, through upwards, strengthen our constituency structures, empower our youth, support our women, value our professionals and listen to our traditional and religious leaders. We must embrace technology without abandoning the human relationships that have always sustained us,” he said.

John Boadu won the position with 47.19 percent of the votes cast at the congress held at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi on Saturday, which ended Sunday dawn.

Boadu, a former General Secretary of the NPP, lost a re-election bid as General Secretary in 2022.

Staging a comeback, he polled 2888 votes to beat his closest contender, Boakye Kyeremanten Agyarko, who got 2408 (39.35 per cent).

Other contenders Paul Awentami Afoko, who was also staging a comeback to the National Chairman position after his earlier term was truncated with a suspension in 2015 got 790 votes (12.90 per cent).

Sammy Crabbe had 41 votes (0.67 per cent)

Justin Kodua Frimpong on his part was re-elected General Secretary of the NPP.

He won with a massive 4486 votes, the highest votes gathered by any of the contestants in the 2026 national executive elections of the NPP.

The votes signify a massive endorsement by the party for his second term as his closest contender Sylvester Tetteh got 1340 votes.

Eugene Boakye Antwi, the immediate past Member of Parliament for Subin in Kumasi who had switched interests from Parliament to the chief executive position of the party came up with only 162 votes followed by Dr Charles Dwamena’s 129 votes.

John Boadu’s speech after the new executives were sworn into office

Today is not merely a day of victory, it is a day of responsibility and of great unity, he said.

“I stand before you with a heart full of humility and gratitude. I thank Almighty God for his grace and I thank every delegate who entrusted us with the responsibility of serving as national officers of our great party

To those who support us, we thank you for your confidence, to those who contested with us, I extend my hand of friendship and partnership. Your ideas, experience, networks and commitment belongs to the New Patriotic Party. There must be no winners and losers, only one NPP, united around one purpose.

Strong parties are not sustained by past achievements alone, they endure because they learn, renew themselves and respond courageously to a changing society.

Our task is to build a renewed NPP, one that listens more, consults more, organises better and prepares more deliberately for the future.

We are going to work closely with our regional executives, our constituency executives, our external branch members of our party, our members of parliament, the gallant great Minority lead by Afenyo-Markin, our patrons and every organised group that strengthens our party.

I’ll deepen our relationship with the voluntary groups, TESCON members, social media practitioners and traditional media because a modern political organisation must engage every means of communicating responsibly.

Our young people must feel that the NPP is their home, our tertiary institutions must become centers of constructive political dialogue and leadership development. Education has always been central to our philosophy and development, we will continue to demonstrate that commitment.

We will also work closely with our flagbearer and our leader, including all the national leadership to strengthen the organisation and financial foundation of the party, especially for our constituency party. We will engage the business community and Ghanaian entrepreneurs with openness and respect and continue to advance policies that expand opportunities and enterprise to flourish.

Political victory is never an entitlement, it must be earned through service, organisation and credibility and the trust of the Ghanaian people, that is why our preparations begins now, we must rebuild from the grassroot, through upwards, strengthen our constituency structures, empower our youth, support our women, value our professionals and listen to our traditional and religious leaders. We must embrace technology without abandoning the human relationships that have always sustained us.

So I make this commitment, we will serve the New Patriotic Party with humility, lead through consultation, work with our part of our party and dedicate this mandate to the winning machinery of our great party, let us choose unity over division, service over personal
