Addressing a press conference in Lahore on Sunday afternoon, the Interior Minister stated that if anyone dies during the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) long march, Sohail Afridi will be held responsible.
Naqvi said that most points in the agreement had been agreed upon during negotiations.
“The agreement had been prepared,” Naqvi said, adding that he took a copy to President Zardari.
The Interior Minister explained that after presenting the draft to the President, he learned upon his return that several changes had been made to it by the KP Chief Minister.
Naqvi added that if CM Afridi was going to make the final decisions, he should have attended the talks himself.
He further emphasized, “The responsibility for the failure of the negotiations lies solely with the KP Chief Minister.”
However, the talks ended without a breakthrough after the two sides disagreed on key issues, including access to jailed PTI founder Imran Khan and military operations in restive areas of KP.
He warned that strict legal action would be taken against anyone violating the law during the ongoing protest movement, emphasizing that authorities would not permit any march on Islamabad.
The Interior Minister added that all individuals gathering for the sit-in would face a full legal process and trial if they broke the law.
He reiterated that the government would not allow PTI to repeat a May 9–like situation.
“No one will be permitted to storm the federal capital,” he made clear.
Naqvi noted that he was keeping both the President and the Prime Minister fully informed of the evolving situation.
He added that both leaders had instructed authorities to pursue dialogue efforts while ensuring they were kept updated on every development.
Naqvi added that while the government had not asked for the long march to be postponed, the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) had made such a request.
