Indian Army man arrested at Srinagar airport with contraband
Srinagar: In Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, an Indian Army personnel was arrested at Srinagar airport after contraband was recovered from his baggage.
The army man was apprehended by local police at the airportβs drop gate during a checking operation on Saturday.
Reports said police recovered 213 grams of poppy straw and 69 grams of a cannabis-like substance from his baggage. The seized material was taken into possession and further details regarding the case were awaited.
The arrest has raised concerns over the alleged involvement of Indian armed forces personnel in the movement and handling of narcotic substances in the occupied territory. The incident is particularly significant as the suspected contraband was reportedly recovered from an Army personnel during a check at a major airport. Such incidents involving the alleged recovery of narcotic substances from or in connection with forces personnel have been reported from IIOJK on different occasions.
The recurring nature of such cases has raised questions about the extent to which individuals associated with forces and other official institutions may be involved in the movement, distribution or sale of narcotics. While the latest case will require investigation and due process to establish responsibility, repeated allegations and arrests underscore concerns over the growing menace of drugs and the need for transparent investigations into their supply networks, including any involvement of officials or personnel entrusted with maintaining security.
