REVEALED: Why Wicknell Chivayo’s and His Wife’s Bodies Will Not Be Viewed During Burial

The family of Zimbabwean businessman Wicknell Chivayo has announced that mourners will not be allowed to view the bodies of those who died in the helicopter crash that claimed his life.

Five people were killed on Wednesday, September 30, when the helicopter went down near Marondera.

Besides Chivayo, the victims include his wife, Lucy, two pilots and a security aide.

Family spokesperson and uncle Hebert Chivayo made the announcement on Friday evening, October 2, at the businessman’s Gletwin mansion.

The mansion was filled with mourners, government officials, religious leaders and hundreds of members of the public.

President Emmerson Mnangagwa was among those who arrived at the home to offer his condolences to the bereaved family.

Hebert explained the condition of the bodies as the reason no viewing will take place.

Forensic and DNA examinations are currently underway to formally identify the remains of all five victims.

The family also used the gathering to publicly address the matter of Chivayo’s estate and the inheritance of his children.

The decision means that when the burial arrangements are finalised, relatives and friends will say their farewells without seeing the deceased.

The tragedy has drawn a wide outpouring of grief, with leaders and members of the public converging on the family home to console the relatives.
