The Ghana Health Service (GHS) has confirmed 12 new cases of Mpox, bringing the total number of confirmed cases across the country to 980.

This update was shared on the X page of the GHS on Wednesday January 21, 2026.

“Mpox Update as of January 18,2026,12 new cases recorded, bringing the total confirmed cases to 980”, the post read.

Mpox, previously known as monkeypox, is a viral illness caused by the monkeypox virus. It is transmitted through close contact with infected individuals or animals and can cause symptoms such as a skin rash, fever, and muscle aches.

The World Health Organisation (WHO) has declared mpox a public health emergency, highlighting the need for vaccination and public health interventions to control its spread.

Ghana records 20 new Mpox cases, total rises to 302

It can be transmitted through close contact with someone who has mpox, with contaminated materials, or with infected animals.
