19-year car theft run ends in deadly Karachi police encounter

A suspected member of an interprovincial car theft gang, who had allegedly been stealing vehicles in Karachi for 19 years, was killed in a police encounter in Shah Faisal Colony, the 24NewsHD TV channel reported on Sunday.

According to the details, the Anti-Vehicle Lifting Cell carried out the operation in the area, during which the suspected car thief was killed. Police said 47 cases had been registered against him at different police stations.

The suspect had reportedly been arrested seven times in the past and was allegedly involved in cases relating to vehicle theft, armed encounters with police, illegal weapons and drugs.

Two alleged accomplices managed to escape during the encounter, according to police.

In a separate incident, an alleged police encounter took place near Umar Brohi Goth in Gulshan-e-Maymar. Police said three suspects were arrested during the operation.

Meanwhile, a man was injured after being hit by a stray bullet in Mianwali Colony.

In another incident, a 45-year-old pedestrian was killed after being struck by a Mazda truck on the Northern Bypass.
