Alabaster, originally from Nkonjeni in Ulundi, northern KwaZulu-Natal, is believed to have died by suicide.

Before her death, she recorded a video message in which she appeared to bid farewell and spoke about personal struggles involving her partner.

Daily Sun cannot name the partner referred to by Alabaster in the video, which has since gone viral on social media.

In the video, Alabaster spoke about her relationship and said she had done everything for her partner before saying goodbye.

Speaking to Daily Sun, her brother, Sandile Zwane (34), said the family was struggling to come to terms with her death.

“As a family, we are deeply hurt by her death,” he said.

Sandile described his sister as a humble and respectful person, saying her online persona was different from who she was in real life.

“She was a content creator who often swore at people, including family members, in her videos, but that was not who she really was.

“She was humble and respectful. She was simply creating content,” he said.

He said the family was still trying to piece together what had happened.

“We only received a phone call on Monday asking us to come to Durban because she had died.

“We still do not have all the details surrounding her death,” he said.

Sandile said Alabaster had introduced her partner to the family.

“She introduced her partner to the family and brought her home. We know her, although I am not sure how long they were together,” he said.

According to Sandile, Alabaster often used humour to hide her pain.

“She would joke even during serious situations. If you didn’t know her well, you wouldn’t realise she was hurting,” he said.

He recalled their last conversation, during which Alabaster mentioned that some of her belongings needed to be moved from Johannesburg to Newcastle.

“When I spoke to her, I could tell she was not okay. When I asked what was wrong, she told me she would speak to me later,” he said.

Sandile said the family had not confronted Alabaster’s partner about the circumstances surrounding her death.

“We have allowed her to attend the funeral. She arrived in Ulundi on Wednesday, 30 September.

“We cannot simply take my sister’s side because we do not know what happened between them.

“We do not know how much the partner may have been abused by Alabaster, and we also do not know how Alabaster may have been abused by her partner,” he said.

He also expressed concern about social media users.

“This content-creation business can create problems,” he said.

Alabaster was laid to rest in Ulundi on Saturday, 3 October.
