Todayโ€™s Headlines: Tinubu presidency is choice of death โ€” Amaechi, Trump says he did not ‘jump the gun’ on South Korea Alaska LNG investment announcement

Rotimi Amaechi, serving as the African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential running mate to Atiku Abubakar, described continued support for President Bola Tinubuโ€™s leadership into 2027 as a โ€œchoice of death.โ€ Speaking in an interview on Channels Televisionโ€™s Politics Today, he argued that Nigerians effectively face only one real optionโ€”to choose lifeโ€”because the current administrationโ€™s policies have inflicted severe hardship.Amaechi pointed to concrete examples of economic pressure, including transport costs that consume most of a workerโ€™s monthly pay, rents that have risen sharply (in some cases by 100โ€“300 percent), and taxes that significantly reduce take-home income even after the minimum wage increase to โ‚ฆ70,000. He also referenced the rising cost of medicines and claimed that some people have died because they could no longer afford essential drugs.

Oct 2 (Reuters) – US President Donald Trump said on Friday he did not “jump the gun” on announcing a South Korean investment in Alaska LNG, a liquefied natural gas project that has been planned for decades but still lacks binding commitments.

Trump โ€‹unveiled plans on Wednesday for South Korea to invest $200 billion in US projects, โ€‹but Seoul quickly suggested one key element, a $54 billion pipeline for a long-planned โ LNG project in Alaska, was not yet set in stone.

“I didn’t jump the gun. โ€‹I mean, they were there and they were represented. And let’s see, if they don’t want โ€‹to do it, that’s okay with me. I’ll just charge them more,” he told reporters at the White House.

Trump also said on Friday that the US trade deal with South Korea includes $8.4 billion for a โ€‹project to push out crude from an aging oilfield, although state-supported Yonhap news agency reported โ€‹that an official from Seoul’s industry ministry was surprised by the claim.

President of the Nigeria Wrestling Federation, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, has urged members of Team Nigeria to display patriotism, commitment and determination as they prepare for the 2026 World Wrestling Championships in Astana, Kazakhstan.

Adeniyi gave the charge when he visited the Nigerian wrestling teamโ€™s training camp in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, on Thursday, as the federation intensified preparations for the global competition scheduled for October 24 to November 1.

The NWF president said the athletesโ€™ decision to remain in camp despite the October 1 public holiday demonstrated their dedication to national service and their determination to represent Nigeria on the international stage. He commended the wrestlers for setting aside personal commitments to continue their preparations, describing their presence in camp on a national holiday as a reflection of the patriotic spirit required to excel at the highest level.

The Lagos State Ministry of Justice has clarified that a teenager and an adult recently reported to have been detained over a pair of slippers were actually charged and prosecuted for alleged conspiracy to commit robbery and armed robbery.

The clarification was contained in a rejoinder issued by the Director of Public Prosecutions, Lagos State Ministry of Justice, Adebayo Haroun, on Friday concerning charge number ID/22014C/23.

Haroun said the defendants were charged under Sections 299 and 297(2) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015, following allegations that they were among a group that robbed a man of his phone and gold chain.

The clarification followed an online report alleging that the defendants had been kept in custody over a pair of slippers allegedly similar to those belonging to the nominal complainant.
