KTH Peshawar performs first robotic knee replacement at public hospital

The Orthopaedics Department of Khyber Teaching Hospital (KTH), Peshawar, has successfully performed a robotic-assisted knee replacement, described by hospital officials as the first such procedure at a public-sector hospital in Pakistan, 24NewsHD TV reported on Saturday.

Prof Dr Muhammad Siraj, Prof Dr Aul Hakeem and their expert team carried out the advanced surgery.

The procedure was demonstrated live, allowing orthopaedic surgeons from different districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to observe the latest surgical technique and learn from the procedure.

Hospital officials said the achievement could open new opportunities for advanced orthopaedic surgery, medical training, research and academic activities in the province.

Dean Khyber Medical College Professor Dr Mahmood Aurangzeb congratulated the Orthopaedics Department and said he was proud of the successful robotic-assisted knee replacement performed at KTH.
