Terrifying moment out-of-control car swerves into TV presenter and cameraman

Expand This is the horrifying moment a reporter and cameraman narrowly avoided death when an out-of-control SUV ploughed into them.

Alma de la Rosa Flores was broadcasting live from Morones Prieto Avenue in Monterrey, Nuevo León, yesterday morning when the heart-stopping incident occurred.

She and cameraman Cristo Martínez were actually there to warn viewers of the dangers following a landslide in the Nuevo Repueblo neighbourhood, which caused a motorcyclist to crash into a tree.

But the slippery conditions proved unsafe for Mexican correspondent Flores and the Gamavisión Noticias crew as well when traffic continued speeding along.

Flores stood by the fallen tree and pile of debris, feet away from the road, with a van in the background just making it around the corner on two wheels.

Seconds later, a dark green Jeep spun out in the direction of the crew, swerving into the branches, throwing Flores from her feet and trapping her against the door.

She could be seen with her arms out against the vehicle, as if to stop it from crushing her.

After several seconds directed at the ground, the broadcast returned to the studio, leaving viewers to hold their breath.

Mario Gámez, hosting from the studio, said: ‘OK, come back with me. Come back with me. We just witnessed a live accident, and our reporter, Alma de la Rosa, and cameraman, Cristo Morales, were run over.’

His voice was thick with worry, but he was able to provide ‘good news’ shortly after.

‘My two teammates are doing very well. They were bruised, hurt, and scared, but thankfully there are no serious injuries from the incident,’ he shared in a social media video.

Ambulances transported the team to hospital where, miraculously, they survived and are now in stable condition.

Camera operator Martínez took most of the impact and sustained injuries to his ankle and arm.

Afterwards, veteran reporter Flores, whose career spans more than three decades, spoke of being battered in the collision while remaining conscious.

She also thanked her colleagues for their messages of support after she suffered several blows.

Taking to X with an update, she shared: ‘Thank you all for your messages of support and concern.

‘Today I can say that we are alive, my cameraman and I are a miracle. Thank God.’

She later said: ‘I’ve been a reporter for 35 years. I hadn’t seen the images, but I imagined them. And well, I’m more than grateful to God, to life, and to all the people who were concerned about us. Thank you all. We’re feeling better now.’

As for the driver, reports indicate that a 19-year-old was arrested as procedures were carried out.

A clip of the crash soon went viral, with viewers stunned that the outcome wasn’t more serious.

@RodolfoRmzB on X was baffled as to why the reporter was sent to film in the ‘middle of a wet road’, while @LatinMexx ‘can hardly believe that both of them are still alive’.
