Ranvir Shorey Says He Was Dropped from Big-Banner Film for Being ‘Anti-Government’
Actor Ranvir Shorey has claimed that he was rejected for a film by a major mainstream studio because he was considered too vocal, “anti-government” and potentially controversial.
Sharing his experience on X (formerly Twitter), the Khosla Ka Ghosla actor said he had received his first confirmation that he was not cast in a film for these reasons.
“With a heavy heart I’m sharing with you guys that I have finally got my first ever confirmation of not being cast in a film by a big mainstream studio for being ‘anti-govt’, too ‘vocal’, and potentially ‘controversial’,” Shorey wrote.
He added that he had long suspected this might be the case, but the information had now been confirmed by a trusted source. Describing the world as a “soul-crushing place”, the actor said people needed to be their own light.
Shorey’s post drew messages of support from social media users, with several praising his honesty and pointing to his performances in films such as Khosla Ka Ghosla, Titli and Bheja Fry. Some commenters encouraged him to remain confident in his abilities, while expressing the view that his identity and talent extended beyond any one production house.
The actor has also recently faced backlash over his alleged use of abusive language in response to a social media user who criticised a viral reel featuring Shorey with the cast of Khosla Ka Ghosla 2.
Over the years, Shorey has frequently attracted attention for expressing strong opinions on a range of issues on social media.
