After Many Years In Luzira Prison, Muwanga Kivumbi Hits Back At Museveni: Change Your Style Of Politics
Fresh from months in detention, NUP Deputy President for Buganda and former Butambala MP Muhammad Muwanga Kivumbi has returned to the political arena with a strong message to President Yoweri Museveni, calling for changes in how politics is conducted in Uganda.
Speaking shortly after being granted bail by the Butambala Chief Magistrate’s Court, Kivumbi urged the government to allow political opponents with different ideas to compete freely instead of treating them as enemies.“We are not your enemies; we simply have a different vision for this country,” Kivumbi said.
He called for fair political competition, urging leaders to persuade voters rather than impose themselves on the population.“You are free to support whoever you want, but let us compete fairly. Nobody should impose themselves. Let us compete and persuade the people,” he said.
Kivumbi’s remarks come after months of detention and legal battles over allegations including incitement to violence and managing an unlawful society, which he has denied. He also remains involved in a separate case before the International Crimes Division of the High Court.Despite his legal challenges, Kivumbi has made it clear that his return from detention will not stop his political activities, insisting that political differences should be handled through constitutional and peaceful means.
