Saudi-led coalition says it intercepted, destroyed 3 Houthi ballistic missiles targeting Khamis Mushait

(AA): The Saudi-led coalition supporting Yemen’s internationally recognized government said Friday that it intercepted and destroyed three ballistic missiles launched by Yemen’s Houthi group toward the southern Saudi city of Khamis Mushait.

The coalition announced the interceptions in a brief statement by its spokesperson, without providing further details on casualties or damage.

The latest launches came a day after the coalition said it intercepted and destroyed two ballistic missiles over Khamis Mushait and Jazan, as well as four drones over Khamis Mushait.

Also on Thursday, the Saudi Civil Defense said debris from an intercepted Houthi ballistic missile fired toward residential areas fell in Khamis Mushait, damaging several buildings and vehicles. No casualties were reported.

Khamis Mushait has repeatedly been targeted amid the recent escalation. On Sept. 14, the Houthis claimed a large-scale attack using dozens of ballistic missiles and drones against King Khalid Air Base in the city.

Saudi Arabia has led a military coalition supporting Yemen’s internationally recognized government against the Houthis since March 2015. The group has controlled the capital Sanaa and several provinces since September 2014.
