Vijay Gets Into The Paddy Field On A Tractor

Chennai: Displaying his skills in driving a tractor across slushy paddy fields in rural Madurantakam, TVK president and Chief Minister C Joseph drew heavy crowds to his over a four-hour long roadshow in the Assembly constituency that is going to polls on October 6 and endeared himself with the people through his personal interaction.

It was one such interaction with a farmer tilling his field in a tractor that led to the vote-seeking politician hopping on to the driver’s seat of the huge vehicle and driving it through the field as those accompanying him on the election campaign, including State Ministers, watched from a distance.

Spotting the blue tractor in the slushy field on the side of the village road, on which his roadshow was unfolding, Vijay, clad in a white dhoti and shirt, disembarked from the campaign van and walked to the tractor, drawing a crowd of farmers working in the fields. After driving the tractor through the fields for a short while, he drove to the road, where a large crowd had gathered by then.

After a word of thanks, he bid goodbye to the farmer on the tractor by patting him on the shoulder and posing for a selfie, he returned to his campaign vehicle and resumed the roadshow that saw him disembarking from the vehicle once a while to speak to agricultural labourers and other people on the roadside.

Apart from enquiring about the wellbeing of the people, Vijay sought votes for his party candidate Maragatham Kumaravel. Among the interesting vignettes witnessed during the interactions were the Chief Minister walking through farmlands, meeting some differently-abled persons at a village, and talking to farmers in the field.

He had a cup of tea at a roadside shop in a moment of bonhomie with the local people and when he spotted a woman and her child performing the traditional ‘Arathi’ to ward off evil eyes, he performed the ritual for them and applied tilak on the forehead of the mother and child.

Vijay is expected to have another roadshow in Dharapuram constituency though he drove a long distance through the road, waving at people.
