Opposition leaders review first round of talks with government

Opposition leaders met on Thursday to review the outcome of their first round of negotiations with the government, with the opposition delegation holding consultations with Opposition Leader Mahmood Khan Achakzai at his residence.

The meeting focused on the discussions held during the opening round of talks, the progress made so far and the strategy to be adopted in the next phase of negotiations.

The consultations come as the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) prepares for its planned October 4 long march towards Islamabad. The protest was initially scheduled for September 27 but was later postponed by the party.

PTI has said the march is aimed at seeking the release of its founder, Imran Khan.

The government and opposition negotiations are taking place amid continuing political tensions over the proposed protest. The first round ended with both sides agreeing to continue the dialogue, although PTI has maintained its commitment to hold the October 4 demonstration.

Opposition leaders are now discussing their demands and working out their negotiating position ahead of the next round of talks.
