He thought he was taking a clear stand. Instead, Cassper Nyovest found himself defending his own history.

It’s not for what he said, but for who he’s said it about before.
The rapper publicly condemned Rick Ross on 27 September 2026, after Ross’s former girlfriend, Jazzma Kendrick, accused him of domestic violence.
South Africans then pointed out Cassper’s own past public support for Chris Brown.
Kendrick posted photographs online showing a bruised face and swollen lip.
She alleged Ross had physically assaulted her during their relationship.
Cassper responded directly on X: “Rick Ross just lost a fan in me. I can’t rock with men who beat women.”
When a follower pushed back, suggesting Ross deserved to share his side of the story, Cassper held firm.
He stated there’s never a good reason to put hands on a woman.
Social media users quickly resurfaced Cassper’s own past posts supporting Chris Brown ahead of Brown’s FNB Stadium show.
This came despite Brown’s own well-documented history of assault allegations.
His widely publicised 2009 attack on Rihanna is among the most cited examples.
One user put it bluntly: “This is selective activism, he’s not against abuse, he’s against abuse done by people he doesn’t like.”
Despite the criticism, Cassper said he would continue using his platform and his voice at his own discretion.
It’s worth noting this wasn’t an isolated moment either.
Cassper’s comments came just weeks after he also publicly condemned MacG and Sol Phenduka.
He called them out for joking about the disappearance of slain runner Elizabeth “Tsontso” Moselakgomo on their podcast.
This is a case we’ve covered extensively as part of the wider Ekurhuleni investigation.
In a significant update, Rick Ross was formally arrested in Florida on 1 October on battery and strangulation charges, days after Cassper’s original comments.
The arrest affidavit alleges the incident occurred on 28 August, with Ross striking Kendrick in the chest multiple times, choking her until she couldn’t breathe, grabbing her by the ponytail, and pushing her against a wall.
Ross has denied the allegations and pleaded not guilty.
He was released on a $5,000 bail for the strangulation charge and a further $1,000 bail for the misdemeanour battery charge, with his arraignment set for 22 October.
His lawyers told TMZ, as reported by Fox 5 Atlanta, that he’s being “wrongfully accused by an ex-girlfriend whose true motivations are unclear.”
They also questioned why Kendrick only filed a police report roughly a month after the alleged incident.
It’s a genuinely interesting moment to sit with.
A South African celebrity tried to take a clear moral stand, only to have his own inconsistency become the actual story.
Whether or not you think his activism is selective, the conversation itself says something real about how closely public figures’ pasts get scrutinised the moment they speak up.
