Samia swears in new leaders

DODOMA: PRESIDENT Dr Samia Suluhu Hassan yesterday swore in four newly appointed government leaders, during a ceremony held at Chamwino State House in Dodoma.

Those sworn in were Abdallah Ulega as Minister for Constitution and Legal Affairs, Dr Juma Homera as Minister for Energy and Masanja Kadogosa as Minister for Works.

President Dr Samia also swore in Asha Abdulla as Deputy Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Finance responsible for financial management.

After the swearing-in ceremony, President Dr Samia chaired a Cabinet meeting. The appointments and swearing-in ceremony were announced in a public statement issued by the Directorate of Presidential Communications yesterday.

The swearing-in followed changes to the Cabinet announced by President Samia on September 27, which affected the ministries responsible for Energy, Works and Constitution and Legal Affairs.

Under the changes, Dr Homera moved from the Ministry of Constitution and Legal Affairs to the Ministry of Energy, taking over a portfolio left vacant after Deogratius Ndejembi was appointed Vice-President.

Mr Ndejembi had been Minister for Energy before his elevation to the Vice-Presidency. Mr Ulega, who had been Minister for Works, was appointed Minister for Constitution and Legal Affairs, replacing Dr Homera.

The changes were part of a wider set of appointments announced on September 27, which also included the appointment of Prof Bruno Sunguya as Chief Medical Officer, Jabiri Makame as Executive Secretary of the National Economic Empowerment Council (NEEC) and Dr Idrissa Hijja as Chairman of the Tanzania National Commission for UNESCO.
