JOHANNESBURG – Families and friends are gathering to remember the 18 people killed in the Wedela tavern massacre.

At least 18 others were injured in the attack, which shocked the Carletonville community.

According to police, armed men stormed the tavern and opened fire on patrons. The attackers allegedly went on to steal cellphones and set vehicles alight before fleeing the scene.

Almost a week after the deadly shooting, no arrests have been made.

Police have said the suspects are known to them, but the circumstances surrounding the delay in making arrests remain a key concern for the community.

The memorial service is expected to begin at midday.
