Another Tiktoker, Rita Konadu Arrested For Calling Vice President Jane Opoku Agyemang Incompetent

Rita Konadu, a Ghanaian TikTok content creator popularly known as “Mama One,” has been arrested by the Cyber Vetting and Enforcement Team (CVET) of the Ghana Police Service over alleged offensive and derogatory remarks made on social media.

Reports indicate that the 49-year-old mother of four was arrested on July 22, 2026, at Juaben in Ghana’s Ashanti Region. Authorities reportedly linked the arrest to videos she allegedly posted on TikTok containing remarks directed at President John Dramani Mahama and First Lady Lordina Mahama.

However, the claim that Konadu was arrested specifically for describing Vice President Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang as “incompetent” is not supported by the sources reviewed. The available reports identify the alleged remarks as being directed at President Mahama and the First Lady, rather than the Vice President.

Following her arrest, Konadu was reportedly transferred to Accra for further questioning and legal proceedings. She subsequently appeared before the Accra Circuit Court, where she was granted bail of GH¢50,000 with two sureties. Her lawyer, Enock Afoakwa, reportedly indicated that she would return to court on August 20, 2026.

No final determination of guilt has been reported, and the allegations against her remain subject to the legal process.

Her arrest has become part of a wider debate in Ghana concerning social-media speech and the limits of criticism directed at public officials. Several content creators have faced police action or court proceedings in 2026 over alleged offensive, threatening or false online content.

The Media Foundation for West Africa has expressed concern about custodial punishments in speech-related cases while also acknowledging the need for social-media users to avoid insulting, threatening or misleading content.

Konadu’s case therefore continues to attract public attention as questions remain about the exact content of the videos, the charges that may ultimately be pursued and the outcome of the ongoing legal proceedings.
