New Patriotic Party (NPP) First Vice Chairman aspirant Sam Pyne has accused the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government of failing to deliver on its 24-hour economy promise.
The 24-hour economy is a flagship policy of the NDC government aimed at keeping economic activity running around the clock and creating jobs.
Mr Pyne questioned how many jobs have been created through the policy and challenged the government to provide evidence of its impact since taking office.
“Let them give us the number of people who have been employed, not political appointees. Not political appointees. Let them come and tell us on the Agenda 1-3-3,” he said.
Speaking on Eyewitness News on Friday, September 11, 2026, Mr Pyne said the 24-hour economy was a major promise that attracted young Ghanaians to the NDC during the 2024 election campaign.
He questioned whether the policy was operating as promised, particularly the expectation that businesses and workers would operate in shifts to create additional employment opportunities.
“The 24-hour economy, yeah. Where, how many people are working because of that? And these are issues that the young guys bought into,” he said.
Mr Pyne argued that the government must demonstrate tangible results rather than rely on political messaging to defend its performance.
“Is it functioning? Where’s that promise?” he asked.
He said voters were closely monitoring the government’s performance and would ultimately judge it on whether its promises translated into tangible improvements in their lives.
