The winner takes home $2 million
Women African Cup of Nations (WAFCON) debutants Malawi will face footballing giants Cameroon in this year’s final on Sunday at the Olympic Stadium in Rabat, Morocco.
The winner of the TotalEnergies CAF Women’s WAFCON Morocco 2026 will walk away with the prestigious trophy and the significantly increased prize money of USD 2 Million.
Malawi beat Algeria 3-1 in the first semifinal match on Wednesday, led by Tabitha Chawinga with a pair of goals. Cameroon won a penalty shootout 3-1 against Morocco after a scoreless draw in the other semi.
All four semifinalists qualified for next summer’s Women’s World Cup in Brazil. Malawi and Algeria will be making their World Cup debuts.
Malawi have enjoyed a remarkable run in this year’s competition. The Scorchers progressed through the group stages before underlining their ambition in the knockout rounds.
In the quarter-finals, they defeated Ghana 2-1, securing a deserved semi-final berth and, at the same time, qualification for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Brazil.
The Malawians continued their extraordinary run in the last 4 with a 3-1 victory over Algeria, booking their place in the TotalEnergies CAF WAFCON final in some style.
Sisters Tabitha and Temwa Chawinga have once again been instrumental in this exceptional campaign, providing the attacking threat and ambition for a team that has continued to break new ground throughout the tournament.
Cameroon will play in their first final since 2016, when the Indomitable Lionesses lost to Nigeria.
Their route to the 2026 decider has included two impressive knockout victories.
In the quarter-finals, they produced one of the biggest upsets of the tournament by eliminating defending champions and record 10-time winners Nigeria 1-0, gaining some revenge for their defeat in the final a decade ago.
Driven by a particularly solid defence and the decisive saves of goalkeeper Michaely Kyria Bihina, the Indomitable Lionesses then held hosts Morocco scoreless in the semi-finals.
After 120 minutes without a goal, Cameroon prevailed 3-1 in the penalty shoot-out, eliminating the hosts in front of a partisan crowd at the Moulay El Hassan Stadium.
The bronze-medal match will see Morocco face Algeria in a Maghreb derby at the Olympic Stadium in Rabat on Saturday at 5 PM.
