Beneficiaries of Ghana’s 2025 Girls-In-ICT programme have gained practical industry exposure through a visit to ATC Ghana in Accra as part of the ongoing Girls-In-ICT Open Day.
The visit, held on September 8, 2026, was designed to connect classroom-based learning with real-world industry experience and give the participants a better understanding of career opportunities in Ghana’s technology sector.
During the visit, the girls toured ATC Ghana’s facilities and learned about the company’s different departments and their roles in supporting telecommunications infrastructure and digital connectivity.
The beneficiaries also took part in an innovation challenge, where they were divided into groups of 10 and assigned technology projects aimed at testing their creativity, teamwork, critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
The projects included an AI-powered smart liquid-level assistant for visually impaired people, a human piano built with Makey Makey, and an artificial intelligence project focused on teaching machines to understand humans. Other teams worked on a Rubik’s Cube solver, an automated crane for warehouses and factories, and a colour sorter designed to classify seeds and fruits based on quality and ripeness.
Additional projects explored warehouse management and goods sorting, while another team used Python to develop a budget tracker and chatbot. The practical exercises allowed participants to apply digital skills gained through the Girls-In-ICT programme to real-world challenges.
The Ministry of Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations said the industry visit is expected to encourage the beneficiaries to consider careers in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM), as well as emerging areas such as artificial intelligence, software development and automation.
The Girls-In-ICT Open Day continues to combine mentorship, industry exposure and hands-on learning to equip young girls with the skills and confidence to participate in Ghana’s growing digital economy.
