On a historic Sunday morning, Ghana’s Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, joined thousands of mourners, church leaders, and dignitaries at the Prempeh Assembly Hall in Kumasi for a solemn yet deeply moving national thanksgiving service in honor of the late Apostle Dr. Kwadwo Safo Kantanka. The event, organized by the Kristo Asafo Mission in collaboration with the Kantanka family, marked the culmination of formal commemorations for one of Ghana’s most revered spiritual, technological, and industrial visionaries.

A Moment of Unity and Reverence

The service, which began at 9:00 AM, drew an overwhelming turnout from across the country, with attendees clad in white printed cloths adorned with the face of the late Apostle. The attire symbolized unity, respect, and gratitude for the life of a man whose legacy spans faith, innovation, and philanthropy.

Dr. Bawumia, the Flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), was warmly welcomed by Adwoa Safo Kantanka, the late Apostle’s firstborn child and former Member of Parliament for Dome Kwabenya. Adwoa facilitated introductions, allowing the Vice President to engage with family members, church leaders, and congregants in a moment of shared reflection.

Prominent Political and Religious Figures in Attendance

The gathering was not only a spiritual event but also a convergence of Ghana’s political and religious elite. Among the notable NPP figures present were:

  • Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, the former Majority Leader of Parliament and now Chief of Staff for Dr. Bawumia’s restructured political office, who plays a pivotal role in shaping the 2028 campaign strategy.
  • Nana Akomea, the former Minister for Information, whose contributions to national discourse and governance were widely recognized.
  • Other high-ranking NPP leaders, including party strategists and long-standing supporters, who joined in paying tribute to Apostle Kantanka’s enduring influence.

The presence of these political figures underscored the intersection of faith, leadership, and national development in Ghana’s socio-political landscape.

A Legacy of Faith, Innovation, and Service

The thanksgiving service was more than a farewell—it was a celebration of a life well-lived. Apostle Kantanka, often referred to as “Ghana’s Renaissance Man,” was a spiritual leader, inventor, industrialist, technologist, and philanthropist whose contributions reshaped multiple sectors of Ghanaian society.

Organizers highlighted that the service was designed to:
1. Honor the life and legacy of a man whose 113 years on earth left an indelible mark on the nation.
2. Express gratitude to God for blessing his family, the Kristo Asafo Church, and Ghana with a visionary whose work transcended generations.
3. Reaffirm his enduring impact on spiritual, technological, industrial, agricultural, and socio-economic development in Ghana.

A Visionary’s Lasting Influence

Apostle Kantanka’s contributions were multidimensional:
– Spiritual Leadership: As the founder of the Kristo Asafo Mission, he inspired millions with his teachings on faith, perseverance, and community service.
– Technological and Industrial Innovation: His work in engineering, invention, and industrial development positioned him as a pioneer in Ghana’s quest for self-reliance.
– Philanthropy and Social Impact: Through his initiatives, he empowered youths, farmers, and entrepreneurs, fostering economic growth and social cohesion.
– National Development: His vision extended beyond faith, influencing agricultural modernization, technological education, and sustainable industrial practices.

The final thanksgiving service was not just a closure but a testament to his enduring legacy, ensuring that future generations continue to draw inspiration from his life’s work.

A Nation in Gratitude

As the service concluded, attendees left with a deep sense of humility and appreciation for a man who dedicated his life to uplifting Ghana. The event served as a reminder that leadership, whether in politics or faith, should be rooted in service, innovation, and a commitment to national progress.

Dr. Bawumia’s participation, alongside other dignitaries, reinforced the message that Ghana’s development is a collective endeavor—one that honors the past while paving the way for a brighter future. The thanksgiving service in Kumasi will undoubtedly be remembered as a moment of national unity, reflection, and gratitude for one of Ghana’s most extraordinary figures.
